Simply put, If it runs out you die, Pretty much the same thing as Doom status in FF, Marluxia has some attacks that make it go down faster rather than doing damage.

Actually, pretty high. His counter is to teleport out of an attack and then teleport again to slash you. So I just hit attack when he reappeared and it locked onto him.

Again it just sort of happened, but this way he dies with a bunch of flower petals around him.
