So, not *completely arbitrary... The way Celsius is organized is more directly relavent to everyday life and the more intuitive of the two. If it's below 0 outside, I know it could snow instead of rain. If I'm boiling an egg, I know that water boils at 100. Fahrenheit may be more precise but people don't need that kind of precision in day-to-day decision making.
Lol i like how the guy says " I'm tryna figure out what it is", good atleast we know he's not an underachiever he follows through with his dumb statements to the very end.
@Troublesome2008 ...exactly. Celsius is completely relevant because it's base assertion is the freezing point of water: above zero it rains, below zero it snows. The Fahrenheit system is arbitrary at best.
Now i'm not saying fahrenheit is better than celsius, but it certainly isn't completely random at best. Mercury thermometers were made in order to have a broader scale, seeing as how alcohol and water thermometers alone couldn't measure very hot or very cold temps. When using mercury, however, the scale is much larger, and more precise, so a new unit of measurement was needed that could represent more precise temperatures.
@Wallyrus Another one of the plus sides to fahrenheit and the reason it has been used for a long time is that temperatures outside rarely ever go beyond 0-100 in america and europe. Obviously celsius is nice because it can compute easily with kelvins. This is why it is the better choice for scientific research. For everyday use however, the more accurate scale of fahrenheit is usually easier to use.
@Wallyrus We had farenheit before, we're lazy/arrogant fucks, so we're stuck with it. Same reason we don't use any metric (except for measuring soda, lulz).
@Wallyrus I'd say +1c is still kinda cold. But below 0c water freezes, 100c and water boils. I guess it's less subjective than the melting point of ice and the temperature of horse blood! But there's also Kelvin, where 0 is absolute zero, thus there are no + or - signs. Even more simple? -End Of Lesson-
Hof, you are awesome dude!...but, how and why the hell do you always get heckled haha?? your the only comedian who can make a dvd series on bein heckled while performing..you own every one dude, keep it up -- Fetto
@aleronstube: Wow, are you off-base. Carlin is legendary for hating hecklers. And just because a comedian can do crowd work doesn't mean they'd rather not do the material. I challenge you to put together a sourced list of 5 comedians who like hecklers. Putting together a set is hard work and the audience should listen and appreciate that work rather than act like a bunch of drunken wannabes that ruin the show for everyone else who paid to see the comedian.
@thehofstetter don't you think it's kinda self-centered when you, Steve Hofstetter, put the title of this youtube video "Why You Don't Interrupt a Comedian - Steve Hofstetter Destroys Hecklers," and then promote one of your albums by commenting on your own video? I guess it's good to have such a big ego to hide the fact that you use a thimble as a condom
@NifftyyAR You don't think that bands put their band name after the song name on youtude videos or promote what album it's off of? I don't understand how promoting your own work means you have a big ego. That's like complaining when McDonald's puts their logo at the end of a commercial...
You arent supposed to pick small details in comics acts, Just sit there and fucking laugh, No, Instead, Youtubers insist on going to the show and commenting lol
Bad title, bad rules. Nobody got destroyed, he just made a comment and you made jokes about it. Your ‘rule 2’ was completely ridiculous, some of the best comedians in the world made their fame in audience interaction. If you can’t cope with it, then you need a new job. A good comedian engages with the audience, not calls it ‘destroying’ them and says they shouldn’t interrupt.
@aleronstube You are the reason comedians have such a hard time...you don't interact with the movie when you go to a theater, you don't go kick it with the cook in a restaurant, and you don't interrupt your teacher or professor; so WHY THE FUCK do you think it's okay to interrupt a comedian, while he is doing his JOB/CAREER? Dumb ass
@ThRoWBaCkTeXaS Incorrect, though ad hominem attacks show your intelligence level. Read what I said: The best comedians made their living on audience interaction, hecklers and chatting are what made them the best. Take a look at Jimmy Carr some time and you’ll see what I mean. Only a bad comedian has an act, a good comedian is a comedian. Bad comedians don’t want audience feedback because they are no good at comedy and simply read from a script. Good comedians can make up jokes in their head.
@aleronstube You're making ad hominem attacks at Steve for having chosen an alternate route to dealing with hecklers. The heckler had NOTHING to come back with once Steve outed him, and therefore got 'destroyed'. You have the whole Comedian/spectator relationship confused. See, when you grow up you will one day realize that it is rude, and disrespectful to interrupt someone's rehearsed performance. I get what you're saying about Jimmy dealing with hecklers, but you're ignorant to compare.
@ThRoWBaCkTeXaS Okay, first of all he wasn’t a heckler, he was joining in with the act by asking whether his home country used Celsius or Fahrenheit. Heckling is when you insult or attempt to attack a comedian’s act, for example by standing up and shouting “You’re an idiot”. Secondly, destroyed means killed or otherwise eliminated, this man simply had a joke made that wasn’t even at him but WITH him. Thirdly, another ad hominem attack? When I ‘grow up’?
@ThRoWBaCkTeXaS ? Read my point: A good comedian is one that interacts with the audience and enjoys moments like this. A bad comedian is one who gets flustered and messes up because he only has one rehearsed act and can’t improv. I don’t know what you think a comedian is, but if you think a comedian is a guy who reads from a script then you don’t understand the concept.
@ThRoWBaCkTeXaS A good comedian doesn’t need a script; he can make it up right there and then (Ross Noble is a good example of that). If you honestly think a good comedian doesn’t want the audience to interrupt then you haven’t seen George Carlin or Eddie Murphy or any number of great acts who engage with the audience.
@aleronstube You really are confused.... You're still arguing your own points, and are too ignorant to see it. I sure hope you're just a failed troll, and don't actually believe this nonsense you're spewing; either way I'm done trying to teach you common sense.
@ThRoWBaCkTeXaS Wow. I’m the troll? You just threw a bunch of ad hominem attacks at me. What about my arguments exactly are you not understand? Where is the flaw in what I have said? All good comedians make their jobs on speaking with and interacting with the audience. FACT. Search for 'Jimmy Carr - Improv' for an example of a GOOD comedian responding to and engaging the audience, not telling them not to interrupt as if they are giving a speech.
@XlSlothXl The dumbasses you refer to are converting -60F (as in the temperature he was refering to) not 60F like you so kindly converted for everyone. Simple mistake but still makes you look a bit silly
@XlSlothXl Nope. You're right. I Googled. I understand the concept of Kelvin, but don't know the conversion formula. Everybody was going goofy with the F/C thing I felt I had to throw in some sort of wrench.
@eatgash It's okay, I know this just isn't the right time of the month for you but all women go through it, so just relax and let your insecurities roll off to the distance. No need for useless defensive remarks.
@eatgash Im not great at Celsius to Fahrenheit conversions (and vice versa) but I do know a couple basic ones. 100 C = 212 F ... 0C = 32F and -40 C = -40 F... So there is no fucking way that -60 F can equal -15.6 C... Without looking it up, my ballpark guess would be -53 C.
Where the hell in Canada did you perform? You have to go pretty far up north to hit -51C even factoring in the wind chill. Not many Canadians live that far north - it's all fly-in communities. No roads.
@pdblouin33 I live in Northern Alberta we get -40c maybe 2 or 3 weeks out of the winter, but he would have had to been in Whitehorse, Yellowknife, or somewhere in one of the Territories to get those temps. Brave guy, I feel bad for the non Canadians who come to where I live it is so hard to get used to the cold and can be so dangerous.
@eatgash you did relize before you typed that comment that 0C is 32F and in -15.6C you moved celsius back 15.6 while dialing back farenheit 90 DEGREES! fuckin idiot man
@thehofstetter So it actually never stops? It's two years later and still... You may have discovered perpetual motion (or at least perpetual stupidity) attempting to tell this joke. I just hope the phenomenon of dogs years doesn't kick in at some point.
i know some people who call themselves comedians *cough* Russel brand *cough* just throw a thousand insults at the heckler and really act like assholes!

this is the right thing to say. lmao
zanishah 2 months ago
@eatgash Im not great at Celsius to Fahrenheit conversions (and vice versa) but I do know a couple basic ones. 100 C = 212 F ... 0C = 32F and -40 C = -40 F... So there is no fucking way that -60 F can equal -15.6 C... Without looking it up, my ballpark guess would be -53 C.

That wasn't heckling. That comedian got a little too offended

So that's
51.111 °C (degrees Celsius)
222.04 K (kelvins)
399.67 °R (degrees Rankine)
-40.889 °Ré (degrees Réaumur)
-19.333 °Rø (degrees Rømer)
just in case anybody else didn't get it

Sypha14 2 months ago
@eatgash Why would -60F = -15.6C when 32F = 0C..
Sypha14 2 months ago
@eatgash Nah, it's too cold for that. It's about -60 fahrenheit and that's like... what is it again in celsius degrees?
BobOwner 2 months ago
@eatgash Not even close, mate
BobOwner 2 months ago
Where the hell in Canada did you perform? You have to go pretty far up north to hit -51C even factoring in the wind chill. Not many Canadians live that far north - it's all fly-in communities. No roads.
pdblouin33 2 months ago
@pdblouin33 he was probably like 'i went up to canada for this next joke' LOL
kalvinsakiller 2 months ago
@pdblouin33 I live in Northern Alberta we get -40c maybe 2 or 3 weeks out of the winter, but he would have had to been in Whitehorse, Yellowknife, or somewhere in one of the Territories to get those temps. Brave guy, I feel bad for the non Canadians who come to where I live it is so hard to get used to the cold and can be so dangerous.
catchlightdame 2 months ago
@eatgash you did relize before you typed that comment that 0C is 32F and in -15.6C you moved celsius back 15.6 while dialing back farenheit 90 DEGREES! fuckin idiot man
brucelee6790 2 months ago

@SolsticeRyosake Correction it.s more like 15.5555555
SolsticeRyosake 2 months ago
Actually, +60 farenheit is 15.6 celcius, but MINUS 60 farenheit is -51 celcius. The conversion doesn't mirror from plus to minus, unfortunately.

I love it. The best part is this wasn't supposed to be part of his act but it becomes a great bit. Rolling with the punches. True humor. No script.

@thehofstetter So it actually never stops? It's two years later and still... You may have discovered perpetual motion (or at least perpetual stupidity) attempting to tell this joke. I just hope the phenomenon of dogs years doesn't kick in at some point.

@thehofstetter Derper it's 15.5C
You're not using your brain properly. Celsius = (Fahrenheit - 32) * 5/9
