You're talking about an era of gaming where, for the most part, graphics wasn't a major concern. This left developers to focus on making their games fun and challenging. Anyone who actually had an enjoyable childhood growing up in the 80's remembers most of these games and ads as being awesome.

Best comparison of gaming then and now would be books to movies. The simple graphics left more to the imagination.. now days we're spoilt with over the top visuals.

I, personally, want to see a list of the worst stories in games. My votes go to Gears of War and Halo. Seriously, the only story in them is this:

Creatures(Whether aliens or underground mutants) are attacking for no reason, and you need to go kill them.

Why are they attacking? Survival? An insane leader? They ran out of toilet paper? Games need storylines, otherwise, they're garbage.
