  • i did this dance when i was hella young!

  • I used to Rum Robam for many years (since I was seven years old, in Thailand refugee camp (1980))... I also perform here in America (1989-92) but now I'm 37yrs old and still remember every move. though this group dance quite different from us...what i mean by that is their hand movement. I guess it depend on the instructor.

  • Its not Painful At ALL!!!! I Love THis!

  • this reminds me of when i would go to all the chol chhnam khmer festivals when i was younger (all around the long beach area!). i always wanted to learn how to dance but my dad didn't want me to (because there would be boys there learning the other dances). but it's really nice to see this again :)

  • This dance is Robam Chun Po which literally means wishing good luck and good fortune. It's also called Robam Bach Pka (tossing and spreading flowers). It has been translated as wishing dance or blessing dance which works either way. :-)

  • Simply amazing! Gives me goose-bumps all over!

  • i though this was the blessing dance

  • check out my way of robam joon bor new wave

  • all of u guy listen to this kind of music cuz i do cool right

  • this is the kind of music i listen to. ha ha i dance too so its all part of a circle

  • it's khmer, learn the difference.

  • why u would wanna do that u ask? maybe it will cause u to be a lil bit more open minded about other cultures and countries that u may not be so aware of.

oh and by the way, ur welcome, HUNNY!!!!! lolololool

  • hahha i think this is funi. u say u are open minded but earlier u just told me that quote " why would i wanna do thaT? especilay when im nOT EVEN CLOSE TO this race.......lol."

now isnt that wat u had sed earlier. well huni i think that u juss contradicted urself.

also i juss dont understand how would u noi the way that i talk since im only typing wat im thinking. i'll let u noi wen im being sarcastic or wen im being mean.

  • Well I think you should learn about this Culture. Not many people know about it and not many people know what Cambodians went through. Pol Pot killed 2 Million Cambodians then the Viets came ended the Khmer Rouge, but it didn't really end there. Cambodia had to fight against the Viets.

  • lol ahhaha sure? yeah i heard viets HATE Cambodians i wondered whyyy?

  • they hate Cambodian but they live in our Country why is thats

  • wow i'm really embarrassed.

cause i am Khmer and this is the dance i am learning right now, because it's my culture. and i am proud to say i am a CASSIOPEIAN as well. and i am just embarrassed that they have a fan like you who would say something like this about someone else's culture.

  • such an idiotic remark, are u mentally deficient or is it just cuz ur brainless? think about it imbecile, vietnam borders cambodia but how is it that their country is so different from us? but at the same time thailand borders cambodia and from their handwriting to even their dancing is so similar to that of Cambodia's. now why is that you half-witted fool? and please can u give a knowledgeable answer for once. im sick of hearing ur preposterous and unreasonable comebacks.

  • dam sengokubitch why u reply to all my other comments but not this one, is it cuz u can't think of anything exceptionally enlightening to say? i thought so. oh and by the way all ur other comebacks are ridiculously hilarious. i ask for u to give me a comprehendable answer but all u throw at me is swears! but keep them coming, i need a good laugh every now and then. haha

  • Cambodia had a King that was half Thai or maybe full & his name was Ang Dovy [1800s<] Which is when I believe the cultures started similating]? There was also a queen that was vietnamese or laos I dont remember which one but that was during the 1700s<? Theres a lot of history behind the involvement of the surrounding countries bordering Cambodia. Thats all i know but for more info: check out the journal of the first chinese diplomat in cambodia i dont remember his name or the name of the book.

  • ok ...so wat ur saying is that khmers basically originated from the surrounding countries?

  • go suck a dick dun bitch

  • u first. bitch.

  • monica is so good at dancing this wish song for peace from the angel she's so good i want to dance as good as her and the other too!!!

  • LMAO haha i have this dvd at home xD

  • this is the flower dance...

i'm cambodian and i did this dance..

itz the flower dance not he wishing dance it's called the flower dance i can say it but not type it.. itz really hard top dance though... it hurtz ur feet and u have to keep them curved and ur hands too..

have any questionz bout this video ask me!

  • This dance is ACTUALLY Robam Chun Por. You're probably referring to Bach Pka.

  • @tylrdng You're right.... our dance is the most graceful. Thai and laotians are a bit bouncy in my opinion. We uphold the traditions of the khmer apsaras from the past.

  • @ayngmn i kinda agree but since I'm Lao I love to uphold my traditions and such and dont worry I take no offence , but there are quite some extraordinary dancers from the lao classical dance repertoire. Check out the dancer in the video i uploaded Fon Souriya.

  • @tylrdng They're both the same dance. Listen to the lyrics in the song.

  • this is not a flower dance okay if u like vanessa go head like her

  • does any1 know where i can get these jewelry ear piece u wear them at side of ur ears?

  • im Khmer && im proud because no other culture has a beautiful trditional dance lyke us Khmer's.

  • I love this dance, this was probably the last kind of dance I perform in when I was in middle school. I learned to dance since at a very young age and my teacher was really mean. I remember he used to let us bend our hand everyday and our body must be gentle. I got to admit I hated him for being so mean to me, but thanks to him I have always love all types of khmer dance.

  • my name is rageina i'm thai and khmer my dad's thai and my mom's khmer and nobody copied anybody that just the way these cultures were made there exacly the same so if u have any questions or comment or whatever just reply or call my cell at 206-306-5902

  • were did black come from

  • Black history in America is the same thing to thai history. We were welcome thai to stay in our land and we ended up with war. provinces in northeast and central of thailand have khmer name. I can tranlated the meaning of each province and those people might dont even know the meaning of it. For example: province sing buri in khmer mean moutian lion. I hope they stop insulting khmer about their land and culture

  • I love this video. So beautiful dance.

  • OMG! This was the same exact video that I learned the Wishing Dance from to perform at the International Festival here in GA several years ago! I lost the DVD that had this clip and been trying to look for it everywhere to order it again. Thank you so much for posting this!

  • Such beauty and grace in the Khymer dance. The energy flow achieved by the dancers is so gently yet even and consistent. Slow and graceful is difficult..so this dance must be pretty difficult!

  • I love the video and the music, Khmer traditional dances are the most beautiful.

  • their hands are so flexible. gosh i adore them. i don't dance ever but my grandmother would just randomly do the exercises on my fingers. now they're just flexible and i don't even dance =)

  • to senantiasa: i am sure that what u no is wrong information (not totally wrong). Do remember that Cambodia is the first kingdom of southest asia. we can say that Cambodia is a grandfather of southeast asia. i accept that cambodian culture was influenced by indian and also introduced by indian people who came to do business with cambodian people.NOT CHAM.

  • we use to do this dance every year. i always use to be the first one out since i was the shortest >:[

    fun dance though. easyyy steps.

  • Beautiful films all of them.

Forgive me if I'm wrong... didn't the Cham come first, and basicly all south east asian cultures are descended from this culture....including the south Vietnamese? Obviously the religion of Buddism came from India, but you can see the orgins of which form of Buddim by observing the statuary in different geographic areas.

  • I might be wrong, but as far as I know the Indian culture in general was introduced by the Cham to the Khmer in the very beginning, but then the Khmer received this culture directly from ancient India by direct contact with the ancient kingdoms there. So, I wouldn't say that the entire cultures of mainland SEA descended from the Chams'. ps:I love this dance!:)

  • Indian culture was received directly from India to Cambodia, but what we see here as in Apsara and Royal Culture was taught by the Mon (Raman people)

  • Khmer ancestors were Indian-Khmer.

Show to me where it was taught by the Mon?

  • This dance was not taught by the Mon. Khmer did get many things from the Mon, but it doesn't necessarily mean that every aspect of Khmer culture were from Dvaravati (Mon state). I think if you credit India, you should also credit the Mons as well.

  • Have you ever heard the Mon-Khmer family? Mon got culture from Khmer and Khmer got culture from Mon vice versa and that's why it called the Mon-Khmer family!!! Khmer always give credit to everyone and Khmer never change its origin name like Thai did. The problem between Khmer and Thai is that Thai never give credit to Khmer when credit is due!!!

  • Yes I've heard of Mon Khmer family. I think the issue with Thailand crediting Khmer is political. Because the Mon does not have a state of their own, like Khmer, Thai would rather credit the Mons than to tell the world that a huge chunk of their culture came from their neighbor, who still exists unlike the Mon.

  • Well, as long as Thailand refuse to recognize and acknowledge its culture came from Khmer's, Thailand continue to be a confused nation by itself.

  • Getting their hands to bend that way must be painful.

  • No not really after a while you get used to it

  • you right!

  • @samrach yeah, when i saw this over there they told us they bent their fingers everyday with lemongrass or something like that? then they just got used to it.

  • @MeggHamm: The first it is very painful for us, but for few days it is normal for us! I'm doing that too now, it is not painful anymore if we practice it everyday!

  • j'adoreeeeeeeee

c 'est important de ne pas oublier ses racines

(le pays a souffert mais petit a petit ca va mieux)

un GRAND MERCI POUR LA VIDEO

  • i wonder if monica like acting more than dancing..

  • Khmer culture and Buddhism were brought to Laos by its greatest King Fa Ngum, who was raised by a Khmer king and married a Khmer princess. When he returned to Luang Prabang to unite all Lao territories (including the big northeast "Isan" region of Thailand today), he was given two sacred religious statues by the Khmer king: the Pra Bang (now in Luang Prabang) and the Pra Keo or Emerald Buddha (now taken to Thailand by Siamese king Taksin when he invaded Laos).

  • This dance is beautiful. This influenced Lao style of dance in Luang Prabang (former Lao capital). Unlike someone wrote, this is NOT Thai court dance - if it is, it is the Thai that copied Cambodian dance. Khmer Empire existed long before many big kingdoms of Thai or Lao.

  • I agree. Thai and Lao used to belong to Khmer Empire, all things that look simular are really Cambodian if anything at all. Thanks for the aid in reality =]

  • The lao wishing dance is soo fast paced compared to this.

  • Same question here on where to find the DVD. Also, are there CD's that feature this type of music/vocalists? I tried Amazon but the 2 I found are "unavailable." I would LOVE to have this music to listen to at work!

  • I don't think they sell this dvd anymore. But with the music I have tons of this type of music. It's kinda hard to find it, I have to usually ask my friend's uncle who plays this kind of music to make me a copy

  • can somebody tell me where to buy this dvd and how much it cost? :)

  • Nice. Robam Chun Por is the name. :)

  • Oh wow! I remembered this dance. I love how the dancers throw the pedals to the ground. Very elegant and sophisticated. And the singers were very passionate; it almost made me cry happy tears. :)

  • lao dance look kinda the same as khmer dance but the clothing is more plainer then khmer clothing and lao dance dosent have that much leg movemnet as khmer dose it has alot of hand movement look at our dances

  • cambodian empire formed long before Thai and laos. cambodian influence both countries. i know that cambodian has passed on the culture to Laos but i know about Thai. i think they sort of stole our culture. let me know.

  • i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee it
