  • Dear Dave! I'm learning to play the guitar for a hole 8 days now, and practice about 2 hours every day, and of course watch all kind of lessons her on Utube, and all I wanted to say, is that I think that U R the BEST teacher ever! Thank U, I can play a few songs now, and enjoying it very much! :)

  • this was a good lesson, but i dont get why the first chord is a B add 11, because the eleventh would be a C sharp, but idt theres a C sharp in the chord?

  • Dude? 2:34

    All SEVEN??? stirings???

  • this lesson was really helpfull. thankyou!! im gonna use this for songs in my band haha :)

  • 10:28 Stone Sour -Through the glass chords =)

  • Nice chords man thanks!!

  • Edwin Mccain,,,, "I'll Be"..

  • Great lesson David. Very great. thanks.

  • What I don't understand is if the type of the chord depends on the key that you're in or if it's just that same chord because of the position.. I'm thinking it's a little bit of both, right?

  • Those are the Chords, well two of them are, that Coldplay uses in Yellow.

  • down down down up up down up down up down down down up up down up down up down down down up up down up down up down down down up up down up down up lol

  • Nancy Wilson from Heart uses a ton of these open chords.

  • I love those chords, as much as I'm working on getting my grade 2 music theory I just screw around and am usually gravitated to chords with that sort of sound; which is awesome because as well as they sound, you can move around them very well and throw around the strumming pattern along with the shape to make different harmonies ring out :D give it a shot; all you can do is try -- thanks for sharing these lovely chords

  • he says all 7 strings..did i hear him right?

  • @Drogheda845 yeah he did...:P

  • yeah

  • sounds "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain

  • my fingers hurt!!!!

and the skin is peeling off now! ahh

  • Sustain!

  • You made it sound so easy! Thanks A LOT!

  • Badd11.. lol, sounds like a cheesey reg plate :P

  • wow. the barred and 'open' B chord have a completely different feel. each has its place, but one is not a substitute for the other. the bad news is that even tho barre chords can suck to play (just like an open F can) in order to play guitar you have to learn them. ie there is no short cut.

  • Actually, this chords inspired me very much and i made a song based on this chords. I think its worth watching its in my channel. Not my best interpretatión. But please if you have the time take a look and comment. Greetings from venezuela.

  • i don't see why you muted the low E on the E power chord at 7. It sounds bloody awesome with it ringing out

  • if you've got fat pinkies (like me) and struggle with bar chords because of your fingers (like me) you can try and use your thumb rather than your index finger. works well for me

  • Great video but whats with the cutoffs ?, Youtube doesn't allow anything longer ?.

  • Janes Addiction all the way for these chords! Classic girl

  • nice vid ty v much!! subscribing XD!!

  • down, down, down, up, up, down, up-down-up!!!!!

  • you look like dirk nowitzki

  • sustainnnnnn

  • I love these cords! So fun and so many opportunity's. You just get an amazing ring off an acoustic for these cords. I would love to try these on a 12 string acoustic... if only I had one =P

  • actually scratch tht question...i didnt watch the end

  • wat strumming pattern are you using?

  • coldplay's Swallowed in the Sea is written with these chords

  • AWESOME!!! Thank you...i've struggled with bar chords for awhile and this was really helpful!

  • this helped me write a cool song!

  • really like the progression david! i'm gonna tune my guitar to standard tuning right now and start playing this progression.

  • Good Lesson! Great chords, so easy to make songs with chords like these! Cheers man!

  • Every lesson with you guys is simple clear and very useful ... thank you. I ao now a bit of a fan!

  • haha nice find for mistake xD

but im pretty sure he knows theres 6 strings ;]

  • i wish i could meet him.

  • @ 2:36 DO U SAY ALL SEVEN STRINGS ???

  • HE DID!!!

  • yep he did

  • yeah lol

  • I'm pretty sure these are the chords John Denver used in the beginning of "The Eagle And The Hawk" A great sound. Thanks for the lessons!

  • OMG!!! I never would have though of trying this. Thank you so much for this lesson. This opens up a new world of sounds. I can't wait to try this out tomorrow night at Joy Night!!

    Thanks a billion,

    Dm

  • Love those chords...Great lesson. Thanks!

  • hey david, i am 15, a girl, so my fingers are kind of short and some notes i can't reach, is a real big problem for me... is there anything i can do to cure this?

  • just play around with it and eventually you be able to reach. i originally had the same problem but now i can

  • The guitar I use in this lesson is a Taylor

GS5 - has a cedar top and tropical mahogany back and sides - will do a review on this guitar soon - stay tuned.

    rock on!

    DT

  • Hey Dave, What kind of strings do you use on your Taylor? They sound great. How long before you change your strings ? Thanks for all the lessons. Rock on

  • I like medium gauge strings - I prefer the thicker strings on my electrics and acoustics as personally I like the thicker tone that the thicker strings produce. I change strings often as I dont want to break one live on stage.

    rock on!

    DT

  • i have the same guitar but mine is red

  • you are great!

  • its a new Taylor gs acoustic very cool tone retails at £1,699 pounds sterling about $2,000 dollars in the USA.

  • up close and personal XD

  • Great lesson David!!! Looking forward to the next one!!!

  • Good suggestions, perfect for acoustic guitar.

  • agreed!

  • great lesson--I did hear a sliding sound when changing positions--that I do too. thanks for being such a great teacher!

  • ...reminds me of Ace Frehley's 'Fractured Mirror'

  • B add 11.........the opening chord to Foo Fighters "Given to Fly" when I play it on the acoustic. Nice Taylor David.

  • SUSTAIN!!

lol.....all these references to THAT movie.

  • excellent!

  • Yes I loved the lesson, but loved your attitude just as much,,all you guys/gals ROCK! Wish yaw were in the Florida area lol..5*'s brother!

  • Awesome lesson David! I remember when I was first starting out, I would play my "bar" chords like that, but I just wouldn't let the high strings ring out. I'd basically just do a power chord with the added minor 3rd note played with my middle finger. I was just being lazy, but now you made me notice that it sounds cool if you add the open high strings!

To hdahcnnoD: Try stringing your guitar Jimi Hendrix style (with the strings revesed) on a right-handed guitar, making it play like a leftie!

  • bar chords are so difficult to play

  • stick with it. you will get there. practice barre chords a little bit ever time you grab your guitar. An A major at the 5th fret is a good one to try

  • Extra sustain. :] Did you say all seven strings? That looked like a six string to me. ;] Thanks for the lesson Dave.

  • Hey dave, or anyone, can a leftie play a right handed guitar?

  • Yes.

  • thanks man!

  • I've been playing guitar for a little while now, and i want to know whether to buy a new acoustic or electric.

Now, I really like the v100 as an electric, but i also really like acoustics. I'm stuck! I don't know what to buy, but here's the two i have my eye on:

Ibanez AEG10NE (Electric Acoustic) (179 pounds)

    Vintage V100

Does anybody have any recommendations on another acoustic? My price range is only 200 pounds...

    Thanks

  • Well, I try to flip back and forth... Like, my first guitar was an acoustic, then I got an electric, and then a new acoustic... And so on and so forth. So, if you really have a hard time deciding, you can try doing that, or just whatever gives you the best bargain.

  • Yeah, i think i'll get an acoustic first. I was planning on buying an electric sometime next year as well.

Even though i'll most likely buy the Ibanez, do you have any recommendations?

  • thx for the lesson, ur amazing but anyhow u said 7strings along the way xD

  • You are outstanding.... thanks for sharing your talents.

  • nice sound from the taylor!!

  • Geez, David, you're like the perfect guitarist. You can make this amazing riffs and improvs outta nowhere, barre chords perfectly, and know all of the musical theory on this...which leads me to an almost interviewing question (if you don't mind, lol)

What are your shortcomings as a guitarist? How do you tackle them?

  • haha, today, I just started and finished learning the intro of Nothing Else Matters and half of the solo (Only playing for 1 and a half months, it isnt bad, eh?) and I was playing around with its chords.

So I got this amazing progression right from it and its so powerful and I feel SO good playing it. Now I get why people say they practice for hours...because they can't stop playing some things!

  • luvs it keep it up

  • HAHAHAHA, 2:37 he says on all "7" strings on accident

  • ur right

  • why doesn't your guitar have 7?

  • David Taub totally rocks! Keep it comin, bro. Peace.

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH!!! so that's his last name!

  • thank you. love you guys!

  • Brilliant lesson!

  • if you want his lessons go to his website

  • Great lesson! Gotta love learning new chords where the hardest part is remembering the crazy names. Thanks.

  • man lol, i JUST was starting to make a song that used the exact same progression you used in this video

  • Sustaiyen lol

  • quick, david, go Super Sustaiyen 4!

    khhaaaa-mmaaaayyyy-hhhaaaaaa-maaayyy-HAAAA!!!!

  • suuuuuuuusssssssssstaaaaaaaaain! Love it!

  • keep up the good work , thanks

  • If you want a good song to practice these pseudo barre cords, try "For You I Will" by Teddy Geiger. It uses the Badd11, Aadd9, and F#7add4 that David shows, as well as a simple open E and a couple other psuedo bars, and that's it!

  • Nice, but it doesn't sound just as good at all the frets...

  • Really useful, thank you very much.

  • Didn't expect much, but these chords are fantastic!! Good job Dave :)

  • My favoryte channnnnnell on youtube!!! thanks I always learn something from you guys!!!! Keep it up!

    Grat video.

    Thanks for posting!

  • this chord shape is used in alice in chains heaven beside you too...

  • sustaiiiin hah good video

  • Tune the high E down a semitone to D# and these open barre chords are how Coldplay play Yellow, B F# to E always leaving the B and high # open.

  • Sorry I meant "and high E open"

The chorus is then E to G# to F# with the

    G# minor. So that's

    Verse 799800 244300 022100

    Chorus 022100 466400 244300

  • Takk.

  • In addition to playing these chords as David does, you can hammer your index finger down to the barred version of the chord and back up again to add a bit of funkiness to your rhythm.

  • That's a really useful lesson. I've been doing bar chords for a long time, but I haven't experimented with these sounds at all.

  • ggghftyxdrgtsjdfr

  • i agree

  • WOW! Thanks.

  • sweet!

  • Love the vids!

    Keep 'em coming

  • thanks again dave. another awesome lesson.
