lets see 1989 i spun my crankshaft wrong snap my crankshaft to my big rig sold my 50 pan to get some new power then got my power stolen lost my whole gig and now i find out that i missed this jam gee thanks for posting this vidio
One reason I love this video is that, for all the stuff people say about Garcia's custom guitars and electronics, here he is playing a borrowed Fender Jaguar through a solid state Peavey amp and he sounds EXACTLY like Jerry Garcia! It's in the fingers; anybody says it isn't, play them this video.
@LongJohnny53 Great point, not to mention this applies to all he played in the 60's and early 70's...... people who put down Garcia's playing are not paying attention or listening.
I need to find the Quiet Riot version of this song, we can listen to it on the new ''Extended Versions'' CD, at the beginning, but only the end. You can also here it in some of the early QR shows with Randy Rhoads.
This is from April 19889 and definitely at the (original) Sweetwater Saloon in Mill Valley, CA. The song is Lieber & Stoller's "Riot in Cell Block #9." I'm pretty sure this is the lineup... Commander Cody (vocals) Sammy Hagar (vocals) Annie Sampson (vocals) Jerry Garcia (guitar) Elvis Costello (guitar) James Burton (guitar) Mitch Woods (keys) Pete Sears (bass) Scott Matthews (drums)
@takashi37 yes you're right, this place unfortunately closed I believe a few years ago after many glory years. This is surely just one of many legendary eclectic jams that took place in tht spot. James Burton and Jerry Garcia and Elvis Costello on the same jam.... brain explosion stuff.
A close up of the Commander's sweaty buttocks- just what we need in the middle of a Garcia guitar solo!! But seriously though- this is brilliant. Thank you very much indeed. Thank you.
awesome to hear Sweetwater reopened

It's especially cool when you consider that they're all probably stoned out of their gourds.

Considering that Jerry Garcia died in the 90s, I tend to doubt this is from February 2008.

this just proves garcia's tone is all in his fingers not his gear.

Sammy, it said that on the bathroom wall because you do not belong on stage with Garcia
zap644 3 years ago
man...this is by far the Strangest jam session I've ever seen, completely dissimilar artists. J. Garcia on Costello's Jazzmaster is cool to see also.

what an ensemble! i bet that was 1 fun show!
lol. don 't have much exposure to sammy, but sounds like the graffiti in the bathroom was meant for him. lol.

James Burton is great but the song rocked out because of Jerry. Watch him after its over, he still wants to play.... too funny
toez2001 3 years ago
Yeah, Jerry seems to be playing the Jazzmaster (probably Declan's) over everything else.
