Hey there paunchetow...do you really mean that "srv don`t even get close to Hendrix" and "everybody can play srv with some practice.....?
I have played the guitar since the early sixties, and been to hundreds of concerts all over the world, and even seen Hendrix live 3 times and SRV 9 times.
Hendrix was a giant thats very true, but SRV had the same quality, and played
the guitar like no one before or after.
There`s not a guitarplayer on this planet that can play the guitar like srv did.
srv was a great guitarist but he don't even get close to hendrix, every body can play srv with some practice hendrix took a gift. There both bad ass in there own style, some early blues from hendrix is some the best blues ever his fans didn't wont blues they got wont they wonted. JIMI got burn out quick and that and drugs well you know the rest. When stevie plays hendrix it's not close to jimi but he tried, far as blues go get a strat and some soul and your on your way.
srv was a great guitarist but he don't even get close to hendrix, every body can play srv with some practice hendrix took a gift. What a tragic loss. As Buddy Guy states in the Tribute DVD, Vaughan's music will ring in my ears until the day I die. In my opinion, only second to Jimi. The only reason I say Jimi was better was because of his unparalleled chording that were really mini solos. But when it comes to real soloing and ripping and digging into bends, no one beats SRV. And Jimi could not have physically played SRV's guitars. No one could. The 2 greatest who always played from a place where we mortal can only dream of.
saw him open for greg allman in daytona, and close for jeff beck in philly..he died 2 months later. i dont blame clapton for the heli crash....thats fate... kinda like waylon deciding not to ride with buddy holly/richie valens...
I wish I had a time machine...I would have walked cross country to stop him from getting on that helicopter. Its sad,the last time playing this song not knowing whats about to transend....R.I.P. my man
i cannot believe i was not there. i live close. i was having a divorce and not paying attention to more important things... i just heard it the next day on the radio. darn - stupid helicopters. Thank you for posting something - i am glad to at least hear some of it. Thanks. RIP/SRV He was his own sound.
Ok this is the full whole story...stevie wanted to get back to his wife quickly that night...so he convinced eric to give up his seat on the helicopter, he was with three people from erics band and the piolet. The helicopter crashed into the side of a hill.
They say that stevie had been possesed by jimi hendrix, cuz he did better then anyone has ever done since jimi died.
ColoradoCivilWar...good post...but Stevie was heading back to see his girlfriend Lorraine, not his wife. He was divorced from his only wife Lenny for a few years...Cheers!
1. i thought stevie was divorced at this time? According to his drummer he was trying to go back to chicago and see his grlfriend, but they would also have a show there within that week.
2. the posession story is a bit fairy taleish dont you think? cant we just conclude that he was a heck of a great blues artist, who was inspired by hendrix therefore shared the same style of playing this is not uncommon amongst musicians. plus he sounded just as much as albert king and freddie as well.
yes it was. As i fixed two months ago with the message above urs. I wasnt payin attention when i posted it. And ya, it is a fairytale. It just ment that he sounded AMAZING at his last concert. I just added that bit. Eric Clapton and Buddy Guy(i believe) said he was posessed. Not me. And he was into all types of artist Albert Freddie Hendrix Jimi Vaughan and more. he was one hell of a guitarist...
He must have known something was up that night because this concert is easily one of his best if not the best SRV concert ever recorded. Give credit to Reese and the rest of the guys they kicked ass too that night
but why is buddy guy eric clapton and robert cray still alive orcording to all of the people that saw stevie just before the crash there were only 5 people encluding stevie on that helicopter that and buddy guy and eric clapton and robert cray and jimi vaughan are all still alive
I miss him so bad I dont know if this is true but I heard that clapton was soposed to be on the helicopter but he had a problem with his guitar and srv got in the helicopter for him Is it true?????????????
A romantic tragedy to be sure, but that's not the way it happened. Clapton's entourage were to fly on the helicopter back to Chicago. SRV, Clapton, Buddy Guy, etc. were due to return to Chicago via limousine. However, there happened to be an empty seat on the chopper, and Stevie asked if anyone would mind if he took it, as he was anxious to get back to Chicago. The rest is tragic history.
as Robert Johnson sang: "the days keep on worrying me, cause theres a hell hound on my trail, hell hounds on my trail" We will always miss SRV, I wish he would have lived and played to a hundred. He was just too young to die like many other greats. The world misses him dearly!!!
Just to think that this was the last time we'd hear him sing these two classics...we've lost an absolutely amazing man and musician. He definately was the best there ever was.
Didnt Clapton come on and play Sweet Home Chicago with SRV, Robert Cray, Jimmy Vaughan and Buddy Guy at some poin during this concert? I have the recording of it :P Amazing. RIP SRV.
to me personally which everyone has their own thing, but wow what a tradgic loss of life when this guitarist went down....by far one of the most influental guitars of the modern day era.. love you Stevie :((((
Another fucking embarrassing performance by this crooked nosed faggot junkie loser. Good riddance. I recommend flying by helicopter to all you SRV lover's. But remember not to suck the pilots cock or you might crash! LOL!!!
definitly better than hendrix i think. hendrix was awsome just because he basically created this type of style almost, but technically SRV was better i think
what the hell are you talking about. you make no sense. jimi hendrix never covered stevie maybe because srv wasnt around when hendrix started. and stevies brother sucks compared to srv or hendrix.
I thought I was using English. Again you are using unfair comparisons. Jimmie Vaughn is more of a scholar/student to the guitar in his playing. Hendrix and SRV were the artists. My comment was not meant as an attack. We might as well compare the Jimmies and SRV to say, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, or Jimmy Reed. The apples and oranges comment was to imply that neither is "better". They are both fruit. SRV, the Jimmies and the rest are all blues musicians. We can chat more if need be.
I do not believe SRV was better then hendrix and i say this with no disrespect to SRV style but the truth is you can hear alot of different people's style in str...Hendrix, bb king, albert king created a style that people copied. Therefore, a person can be as technical as they want, but if it's the sasme style then it dont matter. If you listen, you can hear many guitar greats style and even music in srv music.
We are not here to say whos the best guitarist we are here to pay honor to a fallen guitar legend SRV lives on in the hearts of six stringers all over the world.
I have searched and searched and there doesn't seem to be any video. Only Audio, which seems just wrong! Why in this high-tech age do we not have this on video?
Word on the street is that douchebag...err I mean Eric Clapton's management forbid any videotaping of this show...not to mention it was HIS helicopter that Stevie got into to get back home to his g/f without sitting in the 5 plus hours of traffic coming off that mountain that night...what a waste!!!
. Both of them are great players, who convey a lot of feeling on their instrument. If you really want to and technical then you might say joe pass and wes montgomery best Tecnically speaking these two are melodically and by way of their syncopation far ahead of stevie and jimi. jIMI and stevie after all are just playinbg the blues, which is a simple 12 bar format. Try playing airegin by Wes. hendrix and stevie are simple players, who are incredibly talented, and great improvisors .
I get so angry when I think he's gone. It's so true that the world always loses the great ones early. I really wish Stevie could be back even if he never played for the world again. I would want him to be with all of his loved ones and I mean it. The man just had too much love inside and out to be taken away so soon. PEACE
Stevie was full of love. Put the guitar aside and what a beautiful human being. He just had so much love and compassion. Friends of mine met him and said how great he was. God be with him. I guess the big man needed a great guitar player. You GO Stevie. Miss you buddy.
man, to hear this and think he died thesame or next day after this... just makes me shiver... RIP SRV! :'(

You know what is amazing to me - with this remedial recording, you can still hear it is SRV's voice - no doubt! His
voice is so distinctive, with that vibrato and quality to it. Many a singer could not cut through at this low quality - but Stevie is
just unmistakable! I love it for that. Love you Stevie.
