I love this... I have only heard this song sung by Mahalia this is a heard song to pull off and this Marion Wills does so and with a great twist I love it thanks so much for posting this video....
Stupendous. You know how to pick them! Every bit of her improvisatory genius, and the Stars are her best audience, picking up on every subtlety (example -- l:55). This is where Little Richard, James Brown, and, yes, Paul McCartney and the Beatles got their sound. Often as I've heard this, I keep hearing new elements -- that final "talking with my Jesus." One of those performances that make gospel gospel. The studio record was good but this live one is superlative!
lol thanks, i know what you mean about that encouragement thing. I feel like its an hold over from the days when Marion and The Stars were with the Wards. Whenever you hear the later Ward Singers, u can hear the ones not singing encouraging the the person leading the song.
Mahalia Jackson is great....but Marion Williams version of this song is so emotional and spirited. Marion Williams is by far my favorite singer ever.
