Americans empower Big Oil. Buying big trucks to commute to work in and haul nothing or no one with. Living rediculous distances from work. Making many trips to go get single items (the women I know especially). Poorly maintaining their vehicles and etc. Big oil just collects the money, common people are what hold back EV advancement. Common people aren't smart enough to see the big picture and realize this.
how about useing a diesel generator instead of the batteries?would'nt that be more practical and easier? not to mention not haveing to dispose of the dead batteries?and a generator can put out 110and 220 current what kind of range do ya figure out of that i mean if i can run a generator on 5 gals of diesel for 24 hrs
I can tell just buy the coments we are going to make the arib coutrys even richer and our ecconmy will sifer if people only knew how much oil we import like we import more oil than china uses its over duble that we use. alot of what people say is not true about electric cars. the oil co. have realty tryed and done there part to stop electric cars.
Not to mention even if the batteries cost a bone a peice, used 9 and were replaced every a year (rediculasly fast) thats $900 a year and $100 a month to charge, roughly $2100 a yr. I currently spend just over $200 a month on gas. I would still save money and the enviroment and even more importantly i can tell i can cut them earth wrecking and species killing oil companies outta my life. Sounds like a good set up to me
How long to charge? Pretty inconvenient. What happens when your batterys develope a memory? Thats many batterys to change. 9 bad batterys = $900.00 or so. Golf cart batterys suck! All batterys suck
Batterys suck and are a fucking pain. Anyone with a cell phone and/or golf cart, and anyone whos kid has a power wheels, can tell you that htye suck. Bull shit. they can never replace the convenience, performance, and plain fun as gas. Diesel is the way to go if you want to conserve.
@heatherandpaul2 try breathing 50 years of hydrocarbon in your house if you have an attached garage. i build a new house with out a garage.for that reason.
guess what after a ton of people convert batteryies will go up the cost of power will go up more demand more cost it will be the same thing as gas .. what we need is free energy ie drill to the core of the earth or use reusable batteries things like that no need for power companies no need for water company etc
Love these cars - saw an excellent VW conversion at the Sydney electric car show recently; there's a snippet on my vid, 'Electric Starion Part 5'. Neat clean job, btw
DnD motor + Alltrax + 72v = 20 mile range, 40mph top speed with glacial acceleration.
Warp9 motor + Zilla + 156v = 50 mile range, 95mph, with neck-snaping acceleration. That's my current project. Oh BTW, I just finished an adapter and hub, not that difficult. A drill press, chop saw, aluminum plate, hub and careful measuring is all it take. Oprah is way tougher than that! LOL
Can you also place more battery's to drive more miles. And how long wil this projet do for an amateur? And how mucht cost te hole project inc. the car itself. I think i'm gonna build one myself
This is a kit from e-volks(dot)com I think. It's awesome and affordable. They have 4 different types of conversion kits available. This is level 2 out of 4. It would probably take you a few weeks if you don't know how to remove the motor and don't have all the tools, and aren't sure how to set up the controller, etc. It's not too bad though. I definitely recommend buying an adapter plate and coupler instead of making your own. It's like giving birth to Oprah doing it yourself.
I believe their other Video said a 60 mile range...on the 9 Golf Cart batteries. that's plenty for local driving. It would likely be less at higher speeds, or fully loaded, and running up hills. (Looks like extra space there. Additional batteries or Capacitors probably could extend the range)
Beautiful build!

put a desulfator on each of the batteries to greatly extend the life of the batteries

@heatherandpaul2 1 new battery cost as much as a half tank of gas... so I don't really see what you're getting at :)

Solar or wind! That's why electric will make it. If the sun ever goes out we will have bigger problems then no power! :)

Can you show how the engine is actually mounted to the vehicle? Is it bolted to anything other than the plate between the motor and trans?

How about a few springs on the controler lever in case the cable goes
cornishrob123 2 years ago
So to make your own adapter plate, you have to get the tranny out and trace it on a piece of cardboard or something?

amazing. I want to convert mine!! so this still uses the car's gearbox?

u ought to look around for a switching type of charger. far more efficient and much lighter weight as a bonus.

A parts list with supplier info pls - you can put that in the "info" part of the youtube window or dedicate a website to it.

What is the range on a charge? What is the highest driving speed? How long can you run at top speed? How many hours did it take to do the conversion?

@pdxjules so for the weight of one man in battries you can double the range of the car cool
