  • In 1966, at age 19, I bought a '57 Ford T-Bird powered by a '62 tri-powered 406/405 Ford. I paid $1,800 for it.

  • nice

  • K&N has a taller airfilter. Makes her breath better.

  • my first car and the best thing that ever happened to me. Got it on a sunday and monday the most beautiful nordic angle asked me to take her for a ride. We spent the next 6 months steaming up those windows. I was in heaven. All thanks to that car;

  • hi there from trev in aussie , i was thinking about tri-powering my 51 mercury what you recone any advice thanks

  • Sounds delicious!

  • hey... i am 16 me and my dad are looking at this 63 Ford Galaxie 289 auto all numbers matching and it runs for 2500 bucks.... it will need some work but im soo excited

  • Beautiful!

  • Well, I've found some headers, an intake manifold and upgraded the ignition system...It aint as cool as yours, but I'm happy with it...

  • Tri-Power refers to the fact that the car has 3 carburetors. A car with 2 4-barrel carburetors is often called dual-fours. There are 3 2-barrel carbs on this Galaxie, so most Ford owners call them Tri-Power. Also you may see them designated as 6-V or a 6-barrel engine. Dodge called them a 6-pack on there 440 engines. Thanks for the question.

  • What does Tri-power mean?

  • @equitably otherwise known as 6 pack and that means 3 two barrel carbs

  • @speedjunkie66 Thanks!

  • love those galaxies and thunderbolts.....especially the odd size engines......very rare!

  • I have always been a Pontiac man but 406 Ford was something that held me wanting one, Great vid

  • awesome car

  • might wanna change the single piston master cyclinder

  • love your machine, they had just come out when i was in high school, used to love to hear them go, something about an engine with a nice cam and headers, my uncle had a 62 409 chevy he'd let me drive now and then, he could pass everthing but the gas station, good memories. Never grow out of it don't care how old you get.

  • * great ride great video.*

  • is that a auto or stick?

  • impala or galaxie both are good , me i like a 430 ci deusenburg in line strait 8 cyl. I just got a little cash flow problem.

  • Back in the day the 406 was kinda rare. In the mid 60's I only knew of one(1) in the town I lived in. Since then I have seen a few more but not really very many. WIKI says they were only avaliable for Racing (only for approved and established Racing interests). Some hit the 'Civilian' market but I can't get any figures on how many were built. Does anyone have that data? I know they were an impressive Engine. 400+ HP was the 'Official' rating but some sources say they were much higher HP.

  • I would take the Ford over the Chevy. Matter of personnal taste. I think the Ford looks better, has better styling. To me the Galaxie 500 was a higher end car.

  • oh my god... sounds sexy

  • 1963 was the best year for the galaxie because it offered so many different engine combinations g codes b codes r codes m codes and then some

  • I would still rather have a 63 impala 409! Nice car though!

  • Having owned a 1963 Impala SS 409 and a 1963 1/2 Galaxie 500 427 car, I can tell you this. The Ford was WAY more powerful and faster than the Chevy. However, the Chevy was way nicer to drive and way more dependable. I ending up selling the Ford first because of this. Jim

  • @mrweide That's right. I remember a guy who had just bought a 1964 GTO tri-power and at the local hangout he was beating all stock muscle cars until------a guy with a 1962 Galixe 500 convertible 406 tri-power raced him and oh well the guy took the GTO back to the dealer.

  • The things I'd do to get my hands on a tri-power 406. These motors were actually more powerful than the 427 SOHC motors. The 406 was under rated at 405 bhp,but was closer to 475 with about 600 Ft Lbs. of torque. I would love top get my hands on one. I only have a Thunderbird 390 in my Galaxie, but it'll do the job

  • land yachts with big blocks...awsome

  • 63's and 64's are extremely attractive cars...much better styling than the boxy chevies of the same era.

Enjoy your car, but please take care of it. I'm sure you will :)

  • we just acquired a 63 406 tri power box top about a year ago.. that 406 is a MONSTER compared to our 390's. I was born a Chevy boy, but thanks to dads inability to stay off ebay, i will die a Ford man. there are now 5 63 gals in the family. 3 converts 390's, 1 2dr HT 390, a 2dr ht we are converting for the 427 SOHC, and a 406 box top.

    enjoy it, beautiful car!

  • what can i do to build up my 352 motor? w/o getting too crazy? thx

  • The obvious is to start with a 4-barrel intake and carb if you don't already have one. You may want to look into shorty headers also, factory ford ones would be best. Upgrade the points to an electronic ignition, simplest is to use a Pertronix ignitor. New plugs and wires if they are old. Have fun! Jim

  • @mrweide Why are ford factory exhaust headers so expensive? Who is selling a set at a reasonable price?

  • They are expensive...supply and demand I am afraid. However, they are making them NEW now, I believe they sell for around $500 on ebay. You will probably pay that much for a used set anyway, and they are prone to having busted ears. Jim

  • @newdrewphillips Easy:Get the Edelbrock 2105 FE intake and an Edelbrock 1406 Carb. For a little more, you could get a cam and lifter kit,and also replace the push rods when you do this. Also, port match the heads and intake,as well as heads and exhaust. Then, update the ignition system to a better coil and electronic ignition(Get rid of points). Better fuel pump and oil pump, etc.

  • NICE CAR ! had a 64 marauder ; 390 hipo, 4 spd , 4.11. blowed up . built another 390 ; dynoed 430 hpower ; ran 12.30`s . had a 4 door 63 galaxie , 289 , a/t , 3.50 gear ;driver during the week . wish i had both now ! lots o fun !

  • Nice of you to share your Ford/Merc memories. Nice E.T.'s, you must have known what you were doing. Jim

  • @mrweide ; THANKS ! I just about bleed BLUE OVALS ! BEEN doing it about 40 years . had A GOOD TEACHER ; i listened & learned . have had many cars thru the years . just sold a 71 comet with a warmed over 69 ; 429 police interceptor , a/t , 3500 stall , 9 in. , 4.30 gears ,tagged , insured , 5 mpg . ran mid 10`s . 2 years ago ; sold 90 mark 7 lincoln that ran 14.0`s & that was my tow car with the stock internally 5.0 h/o that it came with .

  • Nice ride...I had to laugh when you closed the hood, mine has the same creeking of the springs and I love the sound of the long nose starter. I have a 406 in my 63 as well but running a single 750 Holley. Tri-Power is being pieced together, working on changing it to a solid lift cam.

  • We had a 63 Country Squire with the 406 and put a Tri power on it. Lots of fun with that .

  • Long live the FE's

  • Wow! talk about bringing back memories. Back in the day I had a '63 406 Galaxie 500XL Convertible. They were rare as they were early 63's and most of the 63's had 427's. Great car. take care of it!

  • Thats a Ride to be proud of!

  • Nice ride!! Congrats on a good shakedown run! I LOVE the feeling of putting it all together and going out on that first run! Truly a great memory!!

  • That is better than any sex...

  • @dipslover true car guy! ive told people that when you criuse in a fine old American car, especially a big powerful one, it is better than sex. Sex is over rated anyways...

  • This typifies what Ford described as "Total Performance". Clearly outperforming its rivals while dominating NASCAR. Wise choice.

  • Congratz, nice babe you have ;o) My bro also owns an 63`Galaxy 500XL convertible in red, nice cars!
