  • I envy all of you who have gotten to play this piece (or anything else from Wagner). I hope I'd find a music group that would play something like this!

  • Awwwwww! That trumpet that held over a tad too long at 6:06 D:

  • The song is a beast. Played it in the Mississippi Lions All-State Band in 2007

  • Honestly, in my opinion, this is one of the most gorgeous pieces composed.

  • Trumpet hangover at the end...otherwise, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! :)

  • @theaws0m3guy If the trumpet hangs over at the end then is a copy from an Eastman Wind Ensemble LP called "Wagner for Band" Conducted by Fredrick Fennell from the 60's.

  • the french horn muted note thing is in there...its just really quiet... unfortunately.

  • All I can Imagine from 4:50 on is Juliet finding Romeo dead, and killing herself because of the loss of her beloved. Very depressing.

  • Amazing!!

  • The best arrangement of this is Phantom Regiment's version by far. Especially when they put it on the field. Check it out and you'll see why.

  • PPPPPPHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNTTTTTOOOOOOMMMMMM RRRRRREEEEEEGGGGGIIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMEEEEEENNNNNNTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of the most beautiful works of art I have ever had the pleasure to play

  • Ahhhhhhhyussss

  • SUTA!

  • i first heard this song when watching the mini-series "Hitler, the rise of evil" ever since then i have fallen in love with it. i would rather listen to this than any modern music - and i am only 16. its no wonder why Hitler used Richard Wagner as his insparation, its just sad he went to far.

  • @chrispy136 its awesome that you like him. I am only 17 and I cannot stop listening to his music. Its so amazing!

  • @alexanderg091694 Well, then you are just like me! I was also about 17 when I started to listen to classical music. And I've never looked back. Wagner, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Händel just gave me so much more than anything else that there was no going back, if you know what I mean. But only people with a estetic and moral sense can understand that. Even my own father ridiculed me becauce of that! Roy from Norway

  • Piękny utwór,dający do myślenia.

  • This is the Eastman Wind Ensemble under the direction of Frederick Fennell.

  • It is ironic that such a beautiful song is used for such a sad moment for a woman. Marrying a man she doesn't want to marry

  • goooooooooooooooooorgeus

  • I sat 1st chair horn when our high school band played this at contest in 1958. It was my favorite then and still brings chill bumps and tears when I listen today. I wish I could go back and recreate the moment.

  • @walkerogden I was our high school band's first chair flutist in '91, and when we first played this, I fell in love, and I have remembered it ever since. Everyone else absolutely hated it, and our conductor bowed to the popular vote, and we didn't end up playing it in the winter concert. I, however, have never forgotten it now 20 years later. The melodic, bittersweet build up is almost more than you can bear.

  • yeahh yeahhhhh beautiful beautifullllllll

  • Fantastic..

  • who is playing this?

  • too bad the trumpets forgot how to stop playing at the end.

  • Im a sophomore playing this for flute in symphonic band. This piece is deffinatly moving lol Key change is terrible but once you got it down, it sounds amazing. I love itttt!

  • It's the Eastman Wind Ensemble... best recording ever of this song.

  • i want this played when i walk down the aisle(:

  • Absolutely BEAUTIFUL and moving! I remember playing this as a teenager and it grabbing hold of me as I played it :) Will love this one forever!

  • Played this for honour band this year. Such a great piece.

  • too bad that a lot of people think wagner is correlative with hitler. he's one of the greatest german composers and his reputation got ruined by the social propaganda....

  • @ethusiasm Actually, if you look at Adolf Hitler, I've read multiple biographies on him, you will find that he is radically Nationalist. Wagner was actually more a victim of circumstance than anything, because he was the face of German culture in the 1930's-1940's. It's interesting how his Baroque style continued through the mid-1900's even though the Baroque movement ended some time earlier.

  • @MrColtsfan2233 agreed.

  • BAHAHAHA trumpet @6:08

  • This song gives me chills and I almost want to cry when we play it...

  • omg sounds so pretty when you dont have a lil group of high school students trying to put together a cancerito peice (however you spell that c word). but yeah i play flute for this song and that key change was like wth and the notes got really high at the end. sounds awesome when people practice their music

  • Gotta love the key... when saxes have five and six flats, heads beigin to explode... haha we prefer sharps :P

  • sometimes elsa doesn't quite make it to the cathedral... but it's great being in a high school band that actually gets her there in one piece;]

  • Who is the performing group?

  • aahhh!!!!!!! the trumpet release at the end the rest of it was so soothing...

  • My God the ending, is the most fantastic ending I can imagine

  • a trumpet missed the penultimate cutoff.. otherwise blowing the ending, cool recording of it.

  • Is this the US Marine Band? cause i remember hearing this and the US Marine Band has a Harp also

  • @icemancotour I think it is the Eastman Wind Ensemble.

  • I was lucky enough to get the bass drum part on this, FFF I'm quite sure, about bar 47 and unto the end, this song speaks eucatastrophe.

  • As usual, pure and utter genius from Wagner.

  • Man sollte knien vor solch einem genie!!

  • Does anyone else have a part with the small omittable measure? My whole band had parts with one omittable measure and we played it but I can't seem to find a single video where a band plays that omitted measure!

  • umm...the french horn part is here, listen.

  • This is my absolute favourite piece, ever. I play bass drum in it for a senior band, and being able to look out along the wind esemble whilst in the grip of this masterpiece of phenomenal.

  • Why only 8896 hits!!! I am 23 years old and I prefer to play this song that 30 modern songs

  • @Lionsden65 This. Is. Not. A. Song.

  • By far the best performance of this piece posted on U Tube! Most groups tend to drag the tempo a little. Not so, here. Intonation is also by far the best. Bravo!

  • at about 2:15 ish theres a horrible key change. (my part went from no flats to 6 flats!!!! SIX FLATS PEOPLE!!!!)

    i play tenor sax

  • did the horns seriously take is down an octave? :O

  • This is definitely the U of Mich Symphony Band - check out the video response. I have three recordings of them playing it. This is the one from the last European Tour just before Revelli retired after 35 years with the band. My posted recording is the one from 1961 - after returning from USSR Tour during the Cold War. The oboe solo is beautiful.- I should know because.I majored in oboe at U of M and Juilliard - no it's not me. Exodia: listen for horns at 4:27 - is this what you want to hear?

  • This is one of my favorite pieces of all time. I played this with the Massachusetts Lions Club All-State band in early '06. This song is one that will never get old in my thoughts. I wonder who this is playing.

  • I wish I knew. I've had this song for years and it never had a description as to the band.

  • @Middlearthboy Pretty sure this is the Eastman recording.

  • yes frenh horns and low brass @ 4:54

2 da end so nice decresendos n crescendos werer just beatiful

  • that oboe solo was lacking a bit in tone.....

infact it's just too reedy sounding

  • One of my favorite pieces of music of all time.

Also, Giqantic, I'll admit that oboe solos aren't my favorite, but this one works nicely.

  • someone held over on the note at 6:05

  • when we played it at around 4:27 there was an epic french horn thing i wish it was in here but the rest is pretty sweet haha

  • Yeah, it would be the perfect adaptation if that part were here because the rest is beautiful beyond words.

  • @exodia210 dude i love the horn piece to this song it sends like chills through my whole body! man, the things music can do.

  • @exodia210

    The horn part is there...

  • @exodia210 hell yea!!! the horns are what made the song awesome!!! in a lot of respect to other musicians, brass is just awesome on this song

  • i love it!

  • Of all the band versions on Youtube, this one is the best. The tempo flows nicely - it is a procession after all, not a dirge. Also, though the balance is still wrong from 2:20 on (the melody is in the brass, not the upper winds), it's not as bad as most. Too band the band transcription lacks the arpeggiated violin line just before the climax - it's important. On the other hand, major props for the harp.

  • Yes, I am a huge fan of the harp. It really gives it such a beautiful feel. I do wish the brass was more pronounced, especially when the 2nd Part trumpets come in at 2:20 as you said.

  • Shame about the god awful oboe solo.

  • This composition lifts me up into the clouds; a couple of other Wagner pieces do much the same, but no other composer has that effect on me. Not sure why that is, but I sure love listening to this.

  • Great music by a great composer.

  • @DorEnErnil Agree, amazing music, but I hope you've done research on Wagner, not such a great composer imo ;P

  • i clearly hear the flutes and pics!! my fav part of the song is @ 5:57!!!!

  • 5:25-5:26, That IS Wagner!!

  • beautiful

  • Very impressive clarinet work in this piece. Great sound.
