I hate when people hold the train doors or stand in the way of the door closing. This delays the train and is especially annoying when you are trying to get to work or school on time.
Here's another unwritten NYC subway rule: Don't stare anyone blank in the eye or look at them for too long. It can make people really uncomfortable. Look on the ads, listen some music, stare into space or just look at the window as the train rushes through the underground to keep yourself distracted.
Some of those are just common sense tips, but others are good. I am moving up there from Mid US. With four kids inder ages of 10. Any tips on taking the subway with kids. Other than keep them well behaved. I am asking more about the safety.

I was trying to get somewhere and got really lost because i asked someone in the booth where to go and the train she told me to take was in the completely wrong direction to where i wanted to go. i have never been 2 and 1/2 hrs late on the train regardless of any train service changes. Its was probably his fault he was late. In nyc you have like 5 ways to get to one place. If you know the whole train system, you'll be fine

im from philadelphia and i go up to nyc a lot to visit friends. I was trying to get somewhere and got really lost because i asked someone in the booth where to go and the train she told me to take was in the completely wrong direction to where i wanted to go. And also, the subway gets rediculous at night, to someone who doesnt know nyc that well, that can get very confusing

The new york city subway system needs a complete overhaul. The trains themselves are outdated by like 30 years. Looking at train systems in other countries and even other states makes the NYC system seem so archaic.

No, I have been to London and used the tubes a lot and it is not like this. They act much more respectful, NOt everyone is perfect but I find it to be much more human like behavior. Sad, but true.
