I just can't tell you how grateful I am, that you shared this song with us. Orla was always my favorite of the group, CW, but this is so exceptional that it will never be forgotten, or surpassed.
I am not "upset" - I did not sing this song - I did not play on this song - I did not produce or master this song - your views are your own and you are entitled to them - my comments were soley directed to a fine artist. I have no interest in your opinions or indeed in you.
@out2tea You really do sound cofused. On the one hand you say you have no interest in my opinion yet your first comment was "Having read some of the comments on this posting I had to leave a note" and " If an artist can't inject themselves into a song without being attacked - what's the point" The point is.... if people want to leave a comment, they are not obliged to leave one complimenting the artist.
Having read some of the comments on this posting I had to leave a note. It is of course an amazing song - which this young lady sings beautifully. The recording engineer has done a terrific job creating atmosphere without overcooking the whole thing. It is a truly lovely recording.
It is a soft and haunting interpretation rather than a gut wrenching one but that does not detract from its value in any way. If an artist can't inject themselves into a song without being attacked - what's the point
@out2tea I find it strange that someone as mature as yourself should be upset that others might express a view contrary to your own.
You said Fallon was "attacked", presumably by me, as I was the only one to criticise this version. Did I really attack her?? "Inoffensive" and "ten a penny" is hardly an attack!
Finally, to say she "injected herself into the song" is laughable, especially when you were correct about the (suffocating-my opinion) influence of the engineer.
as johnny rotten said. pretty. pretty vacant. this isn't meant to be an attack on something essential warm/cool, etheral, haunting and inoffensive. but if you can only enjoy songs such as 'she moved through the fair' as if they were part of a celtic theme park with the electronic drone in the background, the ubiquitous harp and the riverdancesque vocal treatment, then you lose the humanity of the tale. what it is to cherish beauty, suffer loss and be willing to remember.
@UndercoverCracker First of all, I'll say what I want... lol. Secondly I didn't say anything derogatory about Orla's voice, I just think the treatment of the song is lacking in feeling and expression. These versions are ten a penny. My favourite versions are John McCormack's and Sinéad O'Connor's. And thirdly, that was not a rant! It just wasn't as fawningly effusive as you. Please continue to enjoy this version, just allow others their opinion :)
@UndercoverCracker True, Orla's voice is beautiful, and I don't want to take anything away from that. But in other versions, the woman in the song dies, and at the end she comes to him in a dream. That's what I thought made the song itself, the lyrics, beautiful, because they were so mournful. This version doesn't really have that, it's more of a happily ever after ending.
I just can't tell you how grateful I am, that you shared this song with us. Orla was always my favorite of the group, CW, but this is so exceptional that it will never be forgotten, or surpassed.

@DubSun33 That was a rant! Her voice = true beauty. That is all you really have to say.

Good song, but this version totally removes the sad aspect from it that I thought was the beauty of it.

@KingWilliamI What the hell...this still sounds sad. Orlas voice is what the real beauty is.

I much appreciate McKennitt's version of this song, but Orla definitly offers the best rendition.
