@paulabel1 cloud computing is awesome... however this video gets it all wrong, and oversimplifies the idea to the point where someone would think the internet is the cloud.
thumbs up if you were expecting cloud computing to be cubic equations and imaginary numbers with square roots and logarithms and cosines, all working out millions of unknowns at the same time...
I wouldn't be so quick to trust this sort of thing. The United States government can demand to see everything in any server in the US at any time since 9/11. Do you really want others to have even the possibility of seeing all your personal information and files? Most of us don't have anything to hide, but as much as cloud computing will make things more convenient, it will definitely mean some major privacy issues.
This is stupid. All you have to do is buy a CD burner and attach it to your PC. Then copy all your personal and financial files to a CD. Next, rent a safety deposit box at a bank, and stash the CD in there. Or stash it in your basement. Do this every few months, and your data will be safe. YOU DON'T NEED THIS HOKEY "CLOUD" SYSTEM.
I wouldn't say it's because the PC is running out of room, because it's very cheap now to buy terabytes of storage. Cloud computing just makes it easier to manage, available anywhere with wifi, and more secure.
yeah.. am not wrong, it's NATGEO's video.. but w8! how it's related to cloud computing, the future of computer technology? should we find a tiger or a tiny leaf in the sky?
Those "corporate masters" pay your paycheck, insurance and benefits while taking all the risks to run a business and find you work so you don't have to. Oh, and without us, good luck buying toys.
The only cloud is the one in people's heads that buy this crap while ignoring the degradation and eventual end of the freedom to experience and enjoy life brought to us by our corporate masters.Be happy with your electronic toys. Its the most happiness that the majority of you will ever achieve
This isn't particularly helpful when you have a crappy Internet connection like mine. 150KB/sec download, 30KB/sec upload... Yeah, not happening. I have over 1TB of space anyway; not to mention other hard drives I could use and various other computers all together...
With HDDs going for $50 a terabyte and dropping, I'll keep all of my personal data, and backups, right here where I *know* it's all secure, and I *know* Big Brother isn't harvesting it all.
I trust Google about as far as I can throw them these days.
@Ramsez broadly speaking, computing power sold as a service a la electricity. measured in something like cpu cycles per minute/hour/etc. most ordinary consumers don't realize it but amazon has been a pioneer and leader in the field. cloud computing and virtualization (another newfangled buzzword) is allowing for a lot of interesting stuff, such as for private corporations to eliminate the costs of building, staffing and maintaining massive data centers.
@Ramsez I means your files are stored remotely (on a server). It also means you can run applications over a network, which is the idea behind docs.google.com
@Ramsez "what's cloud computing though" It's a buzzword you add to things you've been doing that way for years to make it seem all modern and worth extra money.
It will help to understand it if you replace "in the cloud" with "for idiots".
this cloud has sooo much to go wrong , people are jumping in on this with everything they have , please be careful people !! i love technology , but when i see how people are became dependent on technology is alarming , we are not using are brains anymore , test .> how many number do you remember from your contacts on your phone ? < .
@MoRgUe27 , yes i agree , but the entire world is getting into something that nobody have control , i work whit computers and i see how desperate people get when hard drive from they computers fail and they lose all , the internet with no law is just a country with no law , lets just rope for the best !! :) .. i'm all for technology !!!
Its definitely the brief simplified version, but it is a pretty good sum up in only 90 seconds.

@abingdon66 CD only has 700mb of storage that's not even 1 lousy movie.

Then use 2 or 3 CDs or DVDs. The point is that you don't have to use somebody else's "cloud server".

Cloud computing is not just Google, Amazon, Microsoft, enter your "evil corporation". Private clouds are being built all over the world.
@WinterXL NG would be better off if they posted your comment instead of this flashy, simplistic and misleading video.
