  • could his discussion of this music possibly be less interesting?

  • I've read that Dudamel loves the music of Nielsen... hopefully he'll perform some Nielsen here in LA now that he's the director of the LA Phil. Nielsen just doesn't get many performances in this area!

  • Perhaps it hasn't occured to you, but it more likely that Dudamel is conducting it because he wants to do the piece, as do most professional conductors.

  • Well, after having heard the performance in Swedish Radio I eat my words. Wonderful to hear how close to Nielsen's distinctive Nordic nature Dudamel and the Gothenburg-orchestra came in their interpretation - very dramatic, very lyric, and all conducted with classical discipline and "good taste". No doubt: Respect!

  • Why challenge the hot-blooded Venezuelan Gustavo Dudamel with this drama from the windy North Atlantic part of the world? I love Nielsen's No. 4 with the merciless timpani-duel in the finale, but do Dudamel really have any relation to this music? That is not unveiled in the interview. Perhaps, for the time being, it would be more natural to let Dudamel do Nielsen's exotic Aladdin-music. Dont kill the sympathetic music-hero with brutal assignments.

  • Agree. Is Dudamel madure enough to play this PIECE...?

    Is intelectually ready for this...?

  • Yes he is. Please take a look on my comment below, where I eat my first words...

  • @Jorgenmus Thank you for your honesty. Your comment "hot blooded Venezuelan" is offensive and insensitive. Its a stereotype. I am sure that Swedes would not like to be refered to as "cold blooded Swedes"
