Great show! I have this on a DVD, the whole thing is amazing, and highlights the Stones huge appreciation of Muddy Waters and his role in their rise to fame. Hell, even the band name is from Rolling Stone Blues, written by Muddy! Thanks for the upload, it's great to see Muddy waters on YT, we have got to keep his name alive.
I was privelaged to see Muddy once; and this is how he played....sitting down. A powerhouse performer! The guy taking off his jacket, in white shirt around 1:08 when the Stones are getting seated, is the late great Ian "Stu" Stuart. Keith once said: "This is really Stu's band. The rest of us just work for him". Saw Muddy once; have seen the Stones 4 times. Would LOVE to have been at this show! It's like "the Dream Gig"!
I saw the Stones in '72, backing by - LIttle Stevie Wonder....all of them, and all of us in that era listened to the blues. I grew up in Memphis and still remember, clearly, the impact that happened when white teen-agers started listening to Jimmy Reed...and I still have 3 vinyls of his....it changed the music scene, forever...
1981 sounds like the right date. The Stones came in and hit many of the clubs. This one looks more spontaneous and friendly than with Dizz at the Checker Board. Interesting footage! Keith sounded all right on the guit'! Not all the rockers can respect the blues like Richards does.
In the book Life by Keith Richards. It shows a picture of this and it says "Playing with Muddy Waters at the Checkerboard Lounge, Chicago, November 22, 1981."
I just hope I can be half as cool as this when I get old. Shit, I don't mind mick, keith, and the stones walking in front of Muddy like that, but not those fuckin' bimbos, unless of course they are gonna give Muddy some action, which they should!
No this is in '81. Looking at Mick's clothes, it looks like they were in between Chicago gigs of their Still Life tour of '81. Muddy had another two years.
they found the groove at 8:59. it lasted about 5 seconds, but that'll do.

What a contrast. Muddy the cool blues master, and Mick, twitching and clucking like a big orange chicken. lol

@SugarXMind99- how can you be so sure of that EXACT date? Coincides with a date the band had? I'm guessing so.

@Tranthum- much later than early 70's. I'm gonna investigate.
