As a TSS, I say u use the facilities at the terminals! If there is anything worse then running home balls, or overshooting stations, it's holding up the train service to relieve yourself! Don't let it happen again or your going Downtown!!
@jimamia77 That'll work to an extent. But if you have frequent urges (as in more than once an hour during the day), that might not be enough. And then what are you going to do? This guy did the only thing he could do in his situation. Now, maybe operating a longer route might not have been the best idea. If I were NYCTA, I'd reassign him to one of the shorter routes, such as (S) 42nd Times Sq or (S) Rockaway. Or even AirTrain JFK. With these runs, you reach terminals frequently.
Give his supervisors a large cup of coffee with some ex-lax chocolate and a big bran high fiber muffin. Then have them drive the subway train and lock all the bathrooms at each station. I hate power tripping Azz Holes.
Speakin about the transit bus, I threw a rock last night at the transit bus windsheild and it broke the window. The bus didnt even stop it kept going.
I admire this guy, most people won't want the news to get such a personal story on them, because it embarrassing. He has a disability and still despite his condition, he chooses to work; unlike some that would use this as an excuse to not work and stay home.
Hes right and wrong. Hes wrong for holding up the train cuz ppl do need to go places but if he needs to use the bathroom a lot then the solution is very simple. if he has problems always going to the bathroom, just assign him platform duty. if u gota go u gota go. if he had to take a bad shit, what would he the solution, to shit in his pants and embarass himself??? I think he should do platform duty.
Hey gtech20 he's the answer: Anything but operate a train. I don't need a guy worried about his screaming bowels and not paying attention to his job. Hmm I wonder if the MTA has any job for bathroom attendants?
Unfortunately, the TA should have been aware of his health and acted accordingly so that people who pay to ride the subways and buses don't have to be inconvenienced in such a way. Either he should be working where his condition won't pose a problem like this, or he should get on medical disability, until he's 100%.
Its not even a matter of his condition. The fact of the matter is if you have to go.....you have to go. What is he to do? Hold it? Some of those runs are very long, and holding it will only give you serious health issues later on, and for what??? To make sure someone catches their connecting train/bus? If it were you, what would you do?
4 minutes delay might not seem like much, but if you're attempting to catch a connecting bus at the next station that only runs every hour, then every minute counts.
It isn't his fault that he has this condition, but MTA should have placed him in station attendant duty, not one that requires him to stay in place from beginning to the end of the line.
But in all honesty... I absolutely don't think the guy should get penalized for having a problem holding it. MTA should just be smart enough to give him a task that doesn't require delaying riders (and any trains behind him) and possibly causing a backup in trains. Just have put him as a station attendant or a task that isn't so time sensitive.
Most people don't realize that Transit employees are human. I am glad that NY1 did this story. They should investigate all of the issues of Transit workers. Sexual harrassment, substandard working conditons and disrespectful supervision are issues that need to be brought to light.
You do have to be reasonable. But understand this is a common problem for subway operators everywhere. On the Washington Metro system, the standard procedure is to call for a supervisor to take over your train so there's no delay of passengers, but in a situation where you can't wait--you secure your train and do what you have to do like this guy did.
thats why you bring a water bottle with you on the train..

He shouldn't have passed the medical exam. And then again, he shouldn't have to pay for being human.

It's not his fault. So why does management get pissy over it? I'm sure they would have done the same or pissed thier pants while operating.

There arent any busses that run every hour. Just wait 4 minutes.

Sure there are... many of MTA's late night/early AM bus runs operate hourly.
