Nice playing, really. Nice intonation. But did you notice how your volume really gets lower as you play on the highest strings? I have the same problem with my basses, and it really sucks.... what seems to help with me (on fender jazzbass) is moving my right hand to the neck pickup, but soundwise and practically it is not really a solution. Did you maybe find a way to deal with it? I thought about putting new strings on it, but I haven't tried it yet.
Your pickups may need to be raised closer to the higher strings. If they are too far away it will make the higher strings softer. If they are too close you will get a "wolf" sound.
a good compressor does that for you, but if you havent got a hundred to drop on a good rackmounted one, then yea just play harder and closer to the bridge to keep the tension high
true but not all 6 strings are clunky and hard to play i have a ibanez sr 506 and the neck is only less than one cm wider than my p bass and the neck is also much thinner you will find that in allot of 6 strings
Likewise, my main bass is my Schecter Stiletto Custom 6 6-string bass, and it's easy to play (now, as I've had a year of playing with it). I've been playing my fretless SR305 PWF, lately though, because my six-string recently turned into a five-string. Since then, I'd bonded more with my fretless; I played it for talent show, and got a really nice Jaco tone out of it for our jazz band (we played the Chicken, of course!).
Depending on the manufacturer I would get either...
I prefer a neck through in a 6 string generally because I do not play slap bass on 6 strings as much as a 4 or a 5... but overall, I like the feel playing slap bass style on a bolt on...
I do not like Set Neck basses very much personally.
Bolt Ons have a bouncier feel to me for some reason..
Very nice bass playing with a good Pastorious influence, very nice and puntchy tone, love your style, send you my version, tell me what you think, greets Vic.

Try in first position, that's the good one because of the sound of the open strings. mainly when you are in Bb Chord. Saludos desde Cancun mexico.

That use to happen with my bass too. Have you tried turning up the treble and mid on the amp? That worked for me

Hope this helps.

Can you explain "wolf" sound? Unless you mean howling...

im kinda new on bass guitar...so is it a must to play it on a 6 string???
AiLiNg2664 2 years ago
Nope! You can play this on a 4 string! In fact, I do not play the low B or high C string on this at all...
slapinfunk 2 years ago
No. Usually basses have 4 strings, more strings just increase playability.

do you think its smart to buy a bolt on 6 string or even 5?

i own a neck through 6 string
i dont sla my 6 either just for fun technical stuff
the thing is im making a bass from scratch the only think im buying is the neck and i wanted either a fretless 4 or 5 string
and bolt on is way easyer than anything else and cheaper and i have a tight budget haha
what do yu think?

do u prefer through necks or bolt on necks?
FleaWannabee 3 years ago 2
For a 6 string bass, definitely neck through...
4 string I prefer bolt on, 5 string, its a toss up depending on the manufacturer.

Ha! I love "The Chicken." It was Jaco's best song.
soulfulnotes 3 years ago
it wasn't originally Jaco's song, just so you know, but when he played it, he did it amazingly, so if that's what you meant, then yes.
RUMPproductions 3 years ago
Right, I realize that he didn't compose it, but he pretty much made it his.
soulfulnotes 3 years ago
I didn't know that. Who did it originally? :~)
TheSaintHooker 3 years ago
Alfred "Pee Wee" Ellis, who worked with James Brown. You can look him up on Wikipedia for more info.
