  • The rhythm section is: Steve Kuhn (piano), Tommy Williams (bass), Al Harewood (drums).

They also played a quartet tune with Stan Getz (not shown here) later in the show without the band.

  • Thank you so very much for posting this . My dad is the center trombonist , Herb Wise. He is 81 now and still practices every day. He listened to this with me over the phone and mentioned that " I was practicing before the gig and playing some extreme high notes loudly , when a voice yelled , man if I could play that high Herb i would blow a hole in my shorts". It was Jack Teagarden. "Jack was a great guy as were all the musicians . I mean good men , no axe to grind stuff". Herb Wise

  • Gotta be Bill Evans

  • The other tenor sax player might have been Johnny Board.

  • The band horn sections consist of Chicago musicians, most of whom I can identify. Here goes:

saxes (l to r) Benny Baileys, bari; Mike Simpson, tenor; Ken Soderblom, lead alto; Chuck Kainz, alto; (?) tenor.

trombones: Bill Corti, Herb Wise, John Avant

trumpets: Rudy Stauber; Warren Kime, lead; Art Hoyle

  • @bobbyalanlewis So happy you found this .. Anymore films to add from Chicago.? Love it and thank you again . Looking for a film that Charlie Barnett did with my dad in his band in the 60's. Must find it.. Happy New Year

  • @bobbyalanlewis The above mentioned musicians minus a few guys recorded Sarah Vaughan's Sweet and Sassy album in 4 hours , post rehearsal. It was Lalo Schifrin's debut as well . The album has been remastered which cut the heart right out of the band (in my opinion). Check it out , if you like . :)

  • Oh boy..Stan the man and THE band!!!Slick n' swinging...

  • What a memory and recollection of THE REAL music long forgotten in America...What a shame.

  • @mk181818 only in north america... in south, brazil, we remember stan getz very well.

  • Dang! Look at that Baldwin!

  • What a great clip!!! Thanks so much for posting.

  • INCREDIBLE FIND!!!! THANK YOU for posting this. And thank you 'YouTube' for helping to archive and presever history.

  • best sax ever

  • The great Steve Kuhn, piano, of course, but who are bass & drums? Could that be Chicagoan Walter Perkins?

  • Tommy Williams on bass and Al Harewood on drums.

    Denis (-:

  • It looks (and sounds ) like Pete La Roca on drums. Bassist is probably Tommy Williams.

    Happy birthday, Stan !

  • Great! He was a genius!

  • AWESOME!! LOVE IT! Thank you!

    Bev Getz

  • Thank you.

    This is an unbelievable find.

    Denis
