The point that many people fail to understand is that Dave brings the feisty spirit to Van Halen.....there was a ton of arguing during those early albums but look at the quality of music that came out of it....Dave called this "belligerent enthusiasm" and it made VH legendary.....when Spammy joined the band it suddenly became "let's all just get along and make nice, easy songs about love".....FUCK THAT SHIT.....I want a rock band to be edgy, furious, and fun...that was Roth Van Halen to a "T"...
Right, he was a spaz. But he wasn't cool. In terms of being a nice guy, he was cool. I grew up w/ these guys, and he was viewed as a fat slob. That said, since he was part of VH, all his geekness was overlooked when it came time of the concert. Then we would cheer him on while he toasted us w/ Jack Daniels and played a monster bass! This is just the way it was. Anthony gets much more respect now, because people finally recognize how important his background vocals were.
"Fair Warning" was far and away my fav VH album. It barely recieved radio play back in the day and unless your old skool VH, it's either forgotten and still pretty obscure and rarely played at most radio stations.Too bad too because I've always felt it was some of their best stuff.
Right on the money dude!!!! Warner Brothers treated VH like shit, they were selling more albums and selling out concerts than other WB artists, yet VH got nothing from them!! They are to blame. Have a read of Dave's book and the EVH interview in 82' posted here on utube, they both talk about how little support WB gave VH. Riveting news if your mad VH fan!!! Fair Warning is a master!!!!
everyone has their opinion, I guess- I've always thought that 'Fair Warning' is their best. There's just something about that album... VH1 definitely has it's moments: eruption, atomic punk, on fire, you really got me...my 2 cents :v)
Oh yeah definitely! As a guitar player and from the standpoint of "guitar" Fair Warning is absolutely the best. I know how to play all his stuff except for one or two things and its on that album!
alex = PURE BADASS...u know , if he were in ANY other band besides one where the guitarist wrote all the songs , and was a guit-god , and a band where the front man was such a perfect showman , he would be held in neil peart , john bonham type esteem...hell , amongst drummers , he IS....
this album , in my humble opinion , is his finest work...alex SHINES on 1984..AMAZING f-ing drummer
the guy at 1:12 to 1:20...look familiar?...freeze it on a profile of his nose , and freeze it at 1:16...chechk out the smile..and the dance moves...and note the hair tucked down into the shirt in back...DLR himself
One of VH's best. That middle guitar solo is one of Ed's best. Try walking down the street with this in your headphones - bet you get tempted to do air guitar.
This proves why the mighty VH, in it's original form, will always and forever be the all time ultimate party band. Today's muscians should take notes.....
this is the actual 1984 mtv video, not just some ol footage!
