i had the priviledge and fortune to have had a few lessons with kenny. i also have drum spectacular on vinyl, although when i asked, kenny said he had made no records.
i found the album in an old record shop, payed about a quid i think.
Very distincitve sound ok,which was the thing when listening to the great bands of the day.You immedetely knew who the band was(not just the tunes or arrangements)This group had star sidemen from europe & the states.Never got to see the band live unfortunattly.
Mike, thank you for posting this. I am proud to say that Kenny had a great influence on my playing. I was fortunate that Kenny would allow me use his kit in the studio when we were on the same show, and also allow me to sit behind him and just watch and learn. He died so young and I miss him dearly. At his funeral there were some of the most respected musicians in the world there to pay tribute to a wonderful musician and human being.
the best solo i heard was a battle between ronnie stephenson and kenny clare on an album talkin about drums. on the drum spectacular album. amazing. hear it on drummerworld.
oh come on man! Kenny Clarke basically single-handedly invented the way we play today! For two drummers playing at the same time this shit is INCREADIBLY clean and badass! I think you should at least check out some more of this band, because it's a shame that anyone could not dig on this!
Greetings Drumguy! you may have a valid point as I often compare pro drummers to Buddy Rich and his band(s) over many years, which might be unfair in this case. I'll reconsider and will get back to ya.
This is a Documentry, not a concert,& shows each member of the band in a music / home environment.I kinda like the rare "home video" clips. You can check out the complete film elswhere on youtube.well worth a watch.

Another swinging drummer, Kenny Clare. I met him in the 60's thru Frank Ippolito at his drum shop. Nice man as well.

i used to watch the old tom jones show back in 1969 just to listen to kenny clare's playing.

The CBBB - YES!!!
I've got several of their albums (not this one, though) - hottest & most distinctively-different-sounding big band ever!
Thanks a mil for the post!
