  • Lip synched....the orchestral parts are the dead giveaway. Great song. I would have rather heard it live though.

  • Great tune...when was it first released ?

  • Belinda H. now Belinda W.

We were students at Troy State University Montgomery in 1971. When I hear this song, I always think of you.

  • great song!!!

  • Música e interpretação maravilhosas .

  • RIP Dennis......You left us with so many beautiful songs.

  • GREAT SONG

  • Wow! What can I say. Memories rush. People I cared for. Relationships torn apart. Just life.

  • I first heard this song about 20 years ago on an empty bus in a raining night. I was instantly attracted to it. The song sounded particularly sentimental in the rain. For the next two decades I tried my best to track down the song in record shops in vain. After twenty years, when my heart has broken again and again, I can finally understand the messages of the song and cry along with it.

  • @tangowen09 very moving recall. i understand perfectly. i learned it on guitar and sang it to friends many years later in a small party. i could see in their faces how some things never leave us, as i sang, i remembered too. good luck!

  • @tangowen09 i guess i heard it when it came out it still takes me back to my first loves

glad it ment some thing to you too

  • I love this song.

  • I saw them back in 1969 or 1970 and they were fantastic.

  • .......great !.........its amazing that songs like this move you even when you were too young to have experienced lost love at the time they are recorded.....now that im 45 i can actually relate to the lyrics as im sure alot of people can, male and female alike....RIP Dennis !

  • This is true Rock and Roll.

  • It is not a song of my generation but as beautiful as it can get I find no words to describe what a beautiful expression of love and how powerful it is. There is always one love and how dumb one can be to let go of it. I Love You Jinny, my Jinny, you are the love of my life and miss you so much. God bless you.

  • The most beautiful song of all time!

  • awesome!!! Dennis Yost and the Classic 1V, i saw them in kahului maui, hawaii. totally awesome. a very unique voice and style of singing. another great 60s band.

  • I remember Dennis Yost singing the Star Spangled Banner at the 1971 MLB All-Star game and it was Fantastic the best I ever heard and game itself was one of the best I ever seen .Thank You Dennis Yost RIP

  • My husband and I owned a nightclub in Texas in early 80's. We were able to get Dennis and the Classics IV for our opening week. It was a great experience and the were friendly and kind and wonderful musicians. They were greatly enjoyed by small Texas town people even in the 80's.

  • This is real music. White lyrics, beautiful chords, great voice. What´s wrong with this? Nothing. The 60s, 70s and 80s were full of love and sensitivity. Classics IV are from a generation never to be forgotten.

  • I was also lucky to meet Dennis here in Florida. He was just a regular guy. He wasnt stuck up for such a famous person. Dennis RIP

  • Dennis was a really nice guy.i met him back in 1988 chesapeake va.he was opening for three dog night.he walked up to the fence and just started talking to a few of us.we talked for like an hour .i remember talking to him about the atlanta rhytum section the band that was later formed from his old group.rest in peace

  • This sounds so shallow, but I'm really glad there was no MTV back then, and I could just appreciate his many hits without the visual(LOL)

  • Alright how can you dislike this??? I can understand if you look up a Lady GAGA or Kesha videos to dislike because they suck and the radios stations/tv crams them down your throat. But you never run into good stuff like this. You have to go out of your way to find it.

  • Does anybody know who the TV host is?

  • @AngelaDPlayful It is Don Webster.....this is in Cleveland. He has been everything from a weatherman to doing shows like this. He has retired to Hilton Head now, but still doing commercials.....all this from my cousin who lives in the Cleveland area.

  • @AngelaDPlayful check out this link.....it shows a history of the show that Don Webster did ....EVERYBODY from the 60s was on his show Upbeat. It was broadcast in 100 cities, not just Cleveland. Watch the whole clip and just look at all the stars that were on his show. His was the last show that Otis Redding performed on before getting on that fatal flight. The title of the clip is: Upbeat with Don Webster..Polka Varieties, Gene Carroll

  • @carroll1956

    Okay, cool. Thanks!

  • Dennis Yost was from Jacksonville, Florida.. He originally played drums standing up and sang. He had a great voice.

  • Why do the English always have Chicklet teeth?

  • What a great song! but dam is he ugly! Like a Frankenstein! No offense!

  • @Alikah1 I meant the question to be an either or between the two Male driven songs.

Will you still love me tomorrow by Carole King.

Would bring a counter with I never loved a man the way that love you by

Aretha Franklin. Both are hauntingly Romantic songs.

  • @honypoboy Oh.

  • Good old music, and was nice to hold a girl close, and just listen

  • i am in love...not with the checkered pants of course. I love Dennis. Reminds me of when there was lounge music.

  • One of the 10 best songs of the 21st Century. Damn!! I get chill bumps every time

I here Dennis singing this one. WOW! Thank you for reminding me everyday of

the love I have for my wife.

  • This songs a reminder to me to keep doing what I love, and that greatness will come with time and skill.

Your my biggest role model Papa J.R. (Cobb)

  • Which one's the most Hauntingly Romantic song?

Traces by The Classics IV or Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers?

  • @honypoboy That would be WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW by Carole King

  • Hay let's go with the Upbeat show!!!

  • This is a very nice song, but check out Bettye Swann's version, it is even better.

  • great song, though a sad song. what a great voice, the melody is very haunting and the music just compliments Dennis' voice. they came to maui at the Maui Memorial and they were great and then in one song the drummer got up and Dennis sat down and man could he play. one of my all time facorites, Traces. great post

  • lots of good memories, ty Dennis and guys.

  • @cebolao9251 concordo plenamente com vc, amigao!!! eu era um nenen de colo mas essas músicas sao lindas demais! parabéns pelo comentário!!

  • About as gorgeous, sad and haunting as a song can get.

  • @Punktowner Yup. You just nailed it perfectly !

  • @Punktowner I remember when this song was played on the Desi Arnez and Lucille Ball biography very sad.

  • Quem viveu nos anos 60 foi privilegiado por essa e muitas outras maravilhas que nunca mais existirão iguais .Lindíssimo .

  • Was a hit when I was in high school. Got played at school dances in the gym. A great band and times of good music. Do high schools even have dances any more? In the gym? Kids today expect too much, have too much money, and in the end wind up with zero memories and music nothing as good as this.

  • @henrynevins Was a hit when I was in 6th grade. My first dance was still about 6 months away. Yes, I'm pretty sure it was in the gym, fall of 1969. Yes, kids today do expect too much and yes, they will have only superficial memories (backed by a soundtrack of shitty music).

  • This is my generation and I thank you so much for sharing this with us! Memories are incredible :-)

  • This song belongs to Dennis, nobody does it better.

  • @MsCallander this song was written by buddy buie and jr cobb. they went on later to form the atlanta rhythm section

  • Sheer brilliance. We miss you Dennis.

  • I've always loved this song, but it always makes me cry. Now I had no idea there was an African American in the band. Very cool. also like this upload because it's from the 1960s teen show out of Cleveland called Upbeat. I was only a little kid when the show aired, but I'd know the host Don Webster's face anywhere!

  • That guy missed his que to play the horn at the beginning of the song

  • Classic man. Love this group. A definite legacy.

  • 1969

And a love that didn't work out right.

Traces remain... no trace of regret tho.

Misty memories.... traces of hope that she's all right.

    Always....

  • 18 ppl have no idea what good music is I guess...

  • WONDEWRFUL GROUP, AND UNFORGETABLE VOICE!

  • More about the music then than sexy people singing badly.

  • Another one of those songs that came on your car radio and you automaticaly turn up the volume.

  • L3S3R4..........>memories! In my case...just memories.....that, yes, still gives me a sweet flavor.........and yes, a smile! Those inocent, so...beautiful time..it's gone! I am glad I had a chance to love by then.........>I gave me this love I feel...NOW!

  • love dennis and classic IV!

  • Why we don't have this kind of song nowadays ?

  • @L3S3R4 ..............>because nowadays all 'is about money'!!! Until this time(70's) people still did things..from the heart! 'money was an extra' , now: money is more important...than art! YES: reality is 'money' BUT hey! can there be a balance???

  • @Carmencitamateo That's why I only listen oldies.

  • Thanks for all ... Classics IV, listening this song I remember my "jeunesse".

  • incrivel. a musica em minha vida representa muita coisa, e o youtube proporciona cada vez mais prazer quando assisto a um video.

    fazendo um trocadilho: sem comentários.

    tks for all.

  • Remembering High School and my Boyfriend!

I cried a Million Tears Over This Lost Love!

    Thank YOU Dennis. rip

  • @47yesican Hey friend, I feel for you. The same thing happened to me. The only girl I was in madly in love with for 4 years left me because her dad was the biggest ass on the planet. I still miss her 36 years later. Pretty sick huh? Oh well. Im still alive

  • @prophet711 Out Of The Clear Blue Sky, I Found Him (40rs later). Not The Same Person Anymore,

Neither Am I. Interesting How Life Pulls Dirty Tricks On You. Thanks For Your Comment!

Dennis Sang All Of His Songs With Such Passion. rip

  • OMG! I'm in tears...... this is a old cliche but it is true.... they don't make songs like this anymore.

  • Takes me back to a time that unfortunately my own children and others will never know. The age of innocence and pure love. . . . . . . thanks Classics IV forever.....

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

  • we lost our love but not this song... and everytime I hear it, I cry and remember those days when we were really happy...

  • you got that right

  • Someday Right Now

Pieces of love are never enough

    to make you whole

I hope to come back happy someday

right now I need to hit the lonely road

    M.S. Morrison

  • gotta love that fake screaming before and after the song.

  • hmm, just seen this vidio for the first time, great song, and what a singer. i understand from the other comments that dennis has passed on from this life ? what a sad loss. rest in peace.

  • RIP Dennis Yost... An excelent singer...!!! Excelent music..!!! We need this kind of singers and bands today...

  • @pimenton73 youre right, I am getting some local musicians here to record a few of his tunes, this and Stormy is one of them.

  • @pimenton73

    you right, pimenton73 . . . far too much flamboyancy these days . . . nobody really original. btw . . . awesome saxo-man in black.

  • @pimenton73 unfortunately , everyone needs a harmonizer , or drugs , lol, these days are gone to most , but not me , I feed this into a bose 735 watt system , into my garage where I churn out upper level fabrications in Roswell New Mexico russell bradford banks on fb

  • Reminds me of my dad who i miss everyday..............Dennis j Smee 1946-2010 love forever

  • @garnzy34

I don't know you but RIP to your dad

  • what a voice.....

  • What a great performance. One of the great vocalists, really delivered with sincere emotion! Classiscs 4 rock!

  • 17 people lost their trace of love.

  • who dislikes this song? i mean what???? then dont listen to it. go listen to gaga or whoever.

  • What a legacy Dennis left behind- Every Day With you Girl,Stormy, Spooky and of course this one- Thanks RIP and thanks to all of the guys in the band-

  • "...Faded photographs, covered now with lines and creases. Tickets torn in half, memories in bits and pieces.... Ribbons from her hair, souvenirs of days together

The ring she used to wear, pages from an old love letter..

I close my eyes and say a prayer That in her heart she'll find

A trace of love still there somewhere....."

This song still tears me up... I still think of that girl I only dated 6 mos. but got attached to. Wonder if she ever thinks of me...

  • So sad what happened to Dennis:(

  • @SynL2010 I'm a little out of the loop...what happened?? Always liked these guys but don't know much about them.

    thx

  • @stingray1964

dennis yost passed away a few years ago of cancer

  • es un buen tema los amo...

    viko

  • What a tearjerker. I first heard this in the 80s on oldies radio, after a major heartbreak with a girl I thought would become my fiance... I cried so hard...

  • @CLumpyRutherford What a wimp

  • @zowlik That's a real tearful song when you consider the words. I bet you many men and women felt the same when they heard that song, much like a Righteous Bros. or Brenda Lee heartbreak song.

  • @CLumpyRutherford Very tearful song. I always wanna cry when I hear it too.

  • this song is spinetinglingly fantastic, what an incredible voice

  • i fucking love his voice! its the best voice ever. period

  • Wow, this song is sure a classic. R.I.P. Dennis Yost

Plus, this is from the TV show "Upbeat" from WEWS Channel 5 in Cleveland, Ohio hosted by Don Webster. Webster was a longtime Meteorologist, hosted many other local shows including "Academic Challenge", Webster was also the Station Manager at WEWS during the 1980's. Webster retired in 1999 after many years at WEWS.

  • where else can you see a clip like this except in your dreams

  • So many days and years have passed yet those Traces still light my memories. The ribbon, the ring and the pages of her letter are etched into the storybook of my mind. Even today, nearly 40 years since I lost my only real love, this melody returns me to the time when they were all real, as if it was only yesterday.

  • @bobo7813 .....your comments draw tears to my eyes.....I know exactly what you mean..

  • @smujer1 : Thank you for the nice comment. As we get older and pictures from the past seem to grow dim, one needs to simply reach into their memories and look for the path that once led to the door, that when opened, lets him or her enter to re-live again moments or hours of joys they thought were gone.

  • @bobo7813 ......very well said, I agree 100%

  • correction, I just found "We Miss You" on youtube (but it has that ad overdub) and "One Man Show" and "It Never Rains In Southern California"

  • launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/ClassicsIV/?yguid=129319978

  • if you do find "Pick Up The Pieces" let me know, that is one I cannot find. I also don't have "We Miss You" "One Man Show" "Make Me Believe" "Help Me Help Myself" "I Knew It Would Happen" "Lovin' Each Other" and their version of "It Never Rains In Southern California"

  • wow, music and lyrics at its best , What about that sax. This song is a beautiful blending of all that music of the past had to offer!

  • anybody knows how i can get "pick up the pieces" the best of classic iv but i cannot find it...

  • They wrote great songs in the 1960s, but it appears that dentistry hadn't evolved very far.

  • @beowulven STUPID!!!!

  • @pdejesu

    Dentists are not stupid.

  • @beowulven YOU ARE STUPID!!! Your comment is out of order...

  • @pdejesu

YOU are out of order! This whole darned interweb is out of order! And... you guessed it... you can't handle the truth...

  • @pdejesu Keep thinking that: "Everybody is out of order, I am OK"...You are going to live a great life. My perception is that you are a popular, well loved guy, specially for your cruel and sarcastic comments...

  • I want to drowned myself in this fabulous music. As a singer songwriter how I would love to compose music like this. Thank you for sharing!

    friendly greetings...............Michael

  • Happy Birthday Dennis. Rip

  • Oh heaven is this a beautiful song. The 1960s had undeniably great music. How sad that much of it is no longer played.

  • the classics 4 are still alive in my heart and eyes......

  • One of the greatest songs of all time. And Dennis Yost was amazing.

  • This is one of the classic songs of all time. Dennis was one of the individuals that lead me into songwriting. In the mid-70's when I was picking up every book and manual I could find in songwriting, I found out how the Classic Four and other would write hit songs. 1969 was a great year for me...that is when I became a Professional Musician at age 15. Rest In Peace Dennis...GOD gave us a great gift in your music!

  • loved the classics four , spookie , every day with you girl, stormy, traces, etc.growing up in witchita in the 60;s played on kleo 1480, bring it all back please,

  • The fabulous 60's...A time of some of the best music that ever was and ever will be.. Every time I hear this song it takes me back to world of wonder and joy.. I miss those days.. sighs! What happened to those yesterdays? .Classic with the greatest of memories...music, friends and awesome times!

Thank you km2 for posting a great classic and memory

  • A true classic - no pun intended - along with most of the band's other singles and many LP tracks, especially the "Spooky" and "Stormy" 45s. Complete with the distinctive sax solo that graced all three singles.

  • these were all popular songs that lite radio station continued playing into the seventies

  • One of my favorites from 1969, a bitter sweet year for me.

  • RIP DENNIS...

  • This is the most amazing romantic song that helped me with all the girls I loved before as a young man. That was then, and It is still timeless today. The memories of this song have been like words cannot explain. RIP Dennis. You're one of the greatest in my book.

  • This song just makes me cry. There has never been another song ever recorded that so perfectly communicates the pain and longing of a man who has lost his love. Dennis Yost was a genius in his delivery of the lyrics, and whoever arranged this song...with the sax solo toward the end, before the final stanza of Dennis' desperate plea...totally understood how music can move a person emotionally. Music like this is not made anymore.

  • Perfect bitter swet love song... sure was exactly what my scrap book was filled with when my fiancee had to break up with me because of his mother. Thanks for posting.

  • This song was in the top 10 in the world charts in 1969

  • this is lipsinc right?

  • this is an amazing song. I can play it on guitar.

  • Ganhei o single dessa musica da Maze Mattar, querida amiga na epoca.

  • juventud preciado tesoro. tantos recuerdos hermosos

  • This is such a beautiful song, but the presenter goes on and on! he couldn't shut up.

    Thank you

  • Amazing, timeless music! :D

  • Beautiful, just beautiful! This song will always live through eternity.

    Rest In Peace Dennis Yost.

  • I've always thought Traces was The Classic IV's best song. Just Beautiful!

  • I first heard this song when I was 8. Loved it then and still do. Thank you Dennis and RIP

  • Traces is the best song Dennis/Classic IV ever recorded! Although I love all of the songs this one is my favorite!

  • great, great song!
