really a beautiful song, one of the bether songs regarding love...have always been a great Gene Clark fan, but TVZ sure is bound to be my next favourite singer/songwriter, shame i didn't noticed him earlier
Thanks to YouTube, I just discovered TVZ less than 2 months ago (and his late friend Blaze Foley, as well). I've since purchased 4 TVZ CD's and 2 of Blaze's. I've watched virtually everything of Townes' posted here. I must thank you for posting the "Private Concert" videos. I feel Townes' singing those 13 songs reflects his most heartfelt performances, his emotional peak. While the bell clarity of his youthful voice had vanished, so to, had the rushed delivery.
By this time in his life he'd probably done well to get rid of the drugs, but alcoholism was seriously affecting him. It's still nice to see him try to smile though, like he does at the beginning. Another story about how great we are all as human beings- yet how easy it is to turn yourself into an animal. He went to his death drinking, he was a rare gem amid the poisoned times of his day.
I don't drink, smoke, tell any lies and live by pure Kantian ethics. I'm far from perfect, but i'm trying. I also know how it feels to go down the other path tho. I have no things to say against Mr Townes Van Zandt, I only have what there was...
Thank you for sharing these TVZ treasures from his Private Concert in Houston '88. Brings back some wonderful memories of hearing him play at some great small venues like, the old Texas Opry House.
One of my very favorites. Townes is in great form in these videos, relaxed and healthy. The song strikes a deep chord in me, and I find myself singing bits of the lyrics under my breath when circumstances warrant: "Skies full of silver and gold--try to hide the sun, but it can't be done-least not for long".....a reminder to find the beauty in the moment and the trouble WILL pass, just hang on...at least that is what it does for me. And the song itself is often the beauty of the moment.
His smile in the beginning makes me feel all warm inside. This song is so beautiful. I play it in more of a waltz time... Maybe I'll post it one of these days.
There a few things in life that are as beautiful as a human being who has mastered their craft.
When I watch this I get a strange feeling that there is something bigger out there, I'm not sure what it is, but watching this makes me feel part of it.
Love him. Love him so fucking much!!! I'm glad that I found him.

Townes was one of those truly moving people. He lived the life and translated music all so well. This song is particularly beautiful.

Think about it, only the good die young
Think about the people all around you
Not just the ones so close you can touch
But the one you pass at day
Or the one you dream at night
If I had no place to fall
I have my love,I have my life
Look to the skies and he can see us now
He can see us now in the love of his words
