  • Hey this really works...

  • check out The Blue Man group

  • I cant wait to put distor on this

  • Ur not as good as snubbyj

  • 1979 :)

  • Do they accualy hit the pipes or push air into them froma cuple inches above

  • was that the dexter theme at the end there? lol

  • i am planning on making one of these but does anyone know how you attatch the pipes to the wood or just keep them in the same place

  • @drummer12360 drill a hole with the same diameter as the pipes :P

  • Now you can play jazz on the pipes, holy moley. I want you to move to NYC right now so I can jam with you and your pipe madness.

  • @pickinstone haha, yeah I could see Lionel Hampton rocking out on this thing.

  • Loved it!

  • man, your good ok, but doing this sort of stuff you will always be compared to kent jenkins AKA snubbyj, and i dont think you will ever come up to his standard unless you work extra hard to become his standard and harbour your talent without posting videos on youtube for ages. just giving some constructive criticism.

  • @beeniefide Thanks, yeah he is great. I made this almost five years ago though. I think there was one other video on youtube of it, and nobody had made a chromatic version. SO this was mostly a proof of concept. I think it turned out well.

  • @beeniefide thats not constructive critisism. why wouldnt you want to share what you made and the music you made with other through youtube. suck my dick.

  • @beeniefide -- interesting -- that even with something as idiosyncratic, and obviously a labor of love, as making homemade instruments, that there's always someone so quick to apply a "star system" model ! "sorry son, there's only room for one at the top of the pvc heap, better wait a few years before posting" wait? so you don't mess up your one title shot? hmmm... yeah, well.

    like the chromatic!

how do i make those things you hit the pvc with?

  • i think you should expand more on the first song it really has potential for variation

  • Too cool for college! I mean school...

  • r those flip flops your playing with!? XD awsom work dude!

  • awesome man !!!!

  • Sounds great, excellent job of crafting that.

  • how much did it cost to buy everything you used?

  • Blue Man Group already invented this one

  • @HappyDiscoDeath Actually, Einsturzende Neubauten invented this one.

  • @HappyDiscoDeath Yes, and in fact I made it because I liked their instrument in a live show that I saw. However, they use a completely different arrangement of the pipes, one that I wasn't familiar with so I chose to do a chromatic version so that if you are familiar with piano you would have no trouble playing it.

  • Wow! How long did that take to build/troubleshoot?

  • Wow, totally awsome, You may need to share a Tutorial- Howto in Instructables

  • haha thats cool man its totally TUBULAR

some people might ask you to PIPE down

i think you should keep on keepin on

  • Is this instrument called the 'Chromatic Sewer Pipes'? This is actually pretty clever. Good song for this thing.

  • Comment removed

    thank you for sharing! ;)

    keep great work!;)

  • @mrJonnyBruno Nice job ..... wow.

We are searching for self build PVC Instrument photo's (and video's ofcourse).

We place them on our Blue Man group fans facebook page ..... there is an event page for this; search for "PVC Instruments, sent in your photo's !" on facebook and you will find it.

Can you help us gather as many PVC instruments as possible?

    Greetz, Hans and Marco.

  • I don't think they make them for you, but you can get all the PVC you need for any project.

I've been using the red oak from the lumber yard for my newest toys. It's much easier than it looks.

  • Yeah smashing pvckins :D

  • I get it. It's a 19 note instrument conformed to a keyboard formation starting at f 18 and going to c37 (organ keyboard).

F 18 pipe or resonator is about 5-1/2 to 6 ft in total length(?) or 11 to 12 feet...I could be "off" an octave.

  • @gondolacrescent5 i was about to say the same thing, u beat me 2 it :p

  • @gondolacrescent5 it depends very much on diameter though.

  • @Midnafanatic

You can buy PVC instruments in any hardware store--but you have to design them yourself.

  • It's too bad PVC pipe doesn't come in closer graduating diameters than the regular 1 inch increments. The effect demonstrated might be improved or changed if the lower pitches were larger diameters and the higher pitches, smaller diameters--like a pipe organ. I could be wrong. Nice work. Try going down another octave-(-more 90 degree elbows)! There's also a bendable tube available: Flexhaust. But it's unexplainably expensive.

  • nice, how did you make it?

whats the name of the instument

  • u should sell that, i would totally buy that

  • You have some great talent you should really try on the show americas got talent!

    GO PRO!

  • hahah thats fuckin mad good work

  • i'm pretty sure its annie waits also by ben folds

  • 1979<3

  • hahah i love that sound

  • is the second song annie waits?

  • amazing vato

  • Hells yeah!

  • great job! :3

  • wow this must have taken forever

  • 1979! nice work dude!

  • Awesome.. you must have seen the Blueman Group more then once.

  • amazing instument. its basically setup as a piano right

  • I cant tell what you're hitting it with. What is it?

  • looks like shoe inserts

  • the first song sounds familiar, I don't know where I've herd from.

The pipe improvisation, sounds just like a guitar, that's awesome!

  • i believe its smashing pumpkins however don't know the song

  • 1979 by the smashing pumpkins.

  • HOW TO MAKE PLEASE?!!!

  • It's rather obvious from looking at the instrument, isn't it? If it isn't, I don't think you'll be able to make one, even with instructions.

  • maybe pitch wise

  • love the sound !

  • You built that? That's really cool!

  • If your timing was a little better,

    this would be amazing.

  • WELL, I'm currently working on a midi retrofit so I can have it triggered through my computer via Digital Performer and utilize various veloicities, on/off note values etc... I feel that once the retrofit is complete, I won't need to worry about my "bad" timing.
