  • just beautiful!

  • PEACE BROTHER TYNER :) KEEP ON KICKING OUT THE JAMS IN HEAVEN \

    GOD BLESS THE MC5

  • KICK OUT THE HARP :)

  • Rob is fantastic.

  • Very talented. I'm glad I discovered Rob, and the MC5, a few weeks back. The post that said he was an odd looking man, could have been more correct buy saying unique...at anyrate, I caught myself feelng the same curious thought about his image and watched the 1970 performance of "Kick out the Jams" (here on youtube, the black & white taping) over and over for the last 3 weeks - unique, facinating, and talented.

  • he surely went out at 2:34

  • I remember standing in the mens room at the Grande talking to Rob while he picked his hair out into the afro that he was known for. Really a nice guy but was driven by his music and left wing thinking. Also, at the beginning of the vid is Dave Dixon, who was well known from the radio station WABX who was playing all the "radical and hippie" music. Dave also played music later in his carrer at WDET, back when they weren't a corporate run station. May they both rest in peace, w/the R&R angels!

  • Awesome song.

  • perfect

  • what an odd looking man

  • got this thing on a loop....rip

  • One of the top ten greatest videos on youtube

  • I never get sick of this - beautiful and amazing

  • This is probably the best thing on the Internet.

  • awesome

  • Kick out the jams! So cool to see this. I would love to get in a time machine to see him in the late 60's..

  • boy was he ever awesome...

  • I have this on CD. I think it's pretty rare.

This song captured the feeling that you got while witnessing a concert at Detroit's Grande Ballroom.

  • Agreed! This is unquestionably the beauty of what you-tube offers. The immortal ROB TYNER, playing his heart out, with a beautiful song that touches us all!

  • Rockin Robin! I'm looking forward to some more Grande Days with ya Rob! Thanks for kicken out the jams!

  • im gonna cover this song

  • @shutdownthefed

hey man you said you were going to cover this,

if you do it on guitar (I play acoustic) would you mind sending me the tab or chords for it.

It's really hard to match him because of the sound quality

    Thank you :)

  • is a great song,

  • peace

  • the 2 people who disliked this are obviously communists

  • The 2 ppl who disliked this musta been 1 of the ppl they actually booted from The Grande. Like this historic place they are out there somewhere rotting away. Difference is they have no soul!

  • Oh my god, this is amazing.

I think like everyone else I was ready to laugh, but he kicked out those fucking jams!

  • @troewk It's an electric autoharp.

  • AMAZING..A true fucking ROCK STAR

  • Great singing! Great song! ... I was expecting something like someone sitting on a sidewalk asking for quarters. Kick ass Rob, kick ass.

  • Long live Rob & theyre will never b a band as awesome as the MC5!

  • That was better than i expected. excellent voice.

  • Can anyone tell me what the chords are in this song? I don't have a very good ear and all I could hear was a D, lol

  • Louder Than Love Rob Tyner! Miss ya Bro!

  • His voice is from the high skies, rather than human DNA.

  • this was a great man, all us who know about the true power of music owe a lot this man

  • How real, sincere, and beautiful. Thank you .

  • OMG! This is amazing.

This is the way I want to remember the great Robin Tyner. This song and performance is such a great way to say farewell to Rob.

Thank you so so much for finding and posting this footage.

I wont be able to stop watching this for weeks now!

  • man he looks horrible

  • LOL @ rainbow colored shoes

  • This is a lot better than the band version. He seems to really put his heart and soul into it.

  • This song is on rob tyner's solo album "blood brothers" on which there is a full band. No Autoharp though...

  • @ligre8587 there's autoharp on the studio version. It just sounds way different because it wasn't played through an amp.

  • What instument is he playing?

  • autoharp

  • awesome!

  • Can't help it but my Grande days were amazing, Rob, Brother Wayne, Felix T.......etc. The Hideout, Jefferson Beach, Edgewater, Woodward.

    What a movie.

Couldn't get into Sinclair's crap Marxism.

Detroit is gone, it is a fine place to be from , from the ashes we raise life's meaning .

I'm always saying goodbye with a tear at what they've done to my home.

  • @TR5T --The MOTOR will rise again!!! The Rockets, Stooges, Scott Morgan, Cult Heroes, Gary Q, etc, etc, etc--We're BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @OdysseyLoungeA2

Rockets at the Filmore Detroit this November 27, The Saturday after Thanksgiving. Gonna ROCK!

  • @TR5T --It's happening again, right now 2010--Rockets, Stooges, Scott Morgan, Gary Q and on and on and on!!!

  • @TR5T

Things are beginning to rise from the ashes already. The music and arts community are beginning to make a dent. There is a documentary from Johnny Knoxville where he tours around with a few artists that is pretty eye opening.

  • Wait this is Rob from the MC5?! WOW!

  • I find myself singing this quite often. Didnt expect it but I really like it. Who is this guy? I need an mp3!

  • i actually like this, with no hint of sarcasm

  • OK, I wasn't sure what the instrument was, thanks for the lesson anonyarena. Not something you see everyday for sure. If I am ever on jeopardy I will certainly pick with confidence "German Beer Hall instruments" for 500. Looks like a burden to play although he does it admirably.

  • fair play dude

    this is epic

  • I thought my friend who sent me the link was joking, after a minute I was lost in the music. Its real ..

  • To modread 666: That's an autoharp, not a harpsichord. Autoharp is a folk instrument made popular by The Carter Family. Check out videos of The Electric Prunes or The Lovin' Spoonful to see other rock bands with autoharp. The Left Banke played harpsichord, which is a baroque piano-like keyboard instrument favored by Bach. Marianne Faithfull also used harpsichord on her hit single "Summer Nights."

  • he's dead?

  • you think it can't get any better until you see the finale.

  • Epic stuff right here

  • I can't get this song out of my head.....awesome.

  • If only that flat ass putz Sinclair hadn't been their manager..... the what iffs.

Best MC5 ever, London "Greatest live Rockn Roll show" 70?? 2-3-4??

Wayne painted gold, hands hair clothes, Fred was silver with a cape.

There must be film out there.

  • This is at least 3 levels of awesome. RIP Brother Rob.

  • One Of The Top 100 on All Of YouTube

  • I kept cringing thinking he'd catch his earring in the strings. Distracting!

  • You want awesome, see one of the many vids on youtube of his band The MC5. Some take place at the Grande Ballroom.

  • SO AWESOME !

  • nice

  • I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought this song was gonna be terrible and then kinda liked it.

  • this sounds like a ween song

  • Boognish smiles upon Robin Tyner.

  • truly amazingly clever lyrics

  • WOW!

  • rad. thanks for sharing.

  • This is an amazing song.

  • When I first saw him, I expected to laugh at him from his horribleness.

But then he played his Autoharp and rocked the shit ouf of my face.

    Well played Sir.

  • @RossC90 He was the lead singer of one of the greatest rock bands of all time, MC5. How could you expect less than amazing?

  • @RossC90

i've greatly enjoyed your comment every time i come back to this video. well played sir.

  • where can I get an mp3 of this?

  • Damn

  • \m/

  • not gonna be happy until this gets a million views

  • The sweat, the bouncy balcony, the echo, Felix, and the 5.

    Long ago, far far away.

  • *Tears in eyes* MC5 forever...thanks Rob for all of it and the Eastown too!

    ☆☆☆☆☆

    PEACE & LOVE.....DR.Z

  • A message to Rob...your absence is felt...your influence is undeniable...your band kicked major ass...our relationship was always one of mutual respect...Grande Days indeed !!

  • Totally sweet

  • Dave Dixon, RIP....

  • can anybody figure out the chords to this? i'd be forever grateful. this song is amazing and must be spread on to everyone!

  • Feck the omnichord, phasing and delayed electric auto harps sound so righteous.

    Thanks for the share.

  • Peace out, Rob.

  • Does anyone know where I can find the lyrics on the internet? I'm having trouble finding it.

  • dont now about the internet, but the lyrics are printed on the inside of the MC5 kick out the jams album... at least they were when i bought it.

  • thanks! sad

  • fuck, thanks for what you gave us brother Rob, amen and rest hard.

  • what a badass!

  • FUCKING AWESOME !

    Give it all up !

  • This is real gem, thanks for posting, nice song too.

  • The only thing sad here is that there wasn't at least one full album made of Tyner on the autoharp for me to enjoy. Genius. PURE GENIUS.

  • amazing...and a bit sad..

  • a bit?! This is the ESSENCE of sadness. How I wish I could live those grande days.

  • autoharp

  • I never knew it was a song-the lyrics are printed in the Kick Out The Jams re-release. I never knew it was prounounced Grand-ee, either. R.I.P, Rob. :(

  • I hope that when I die one of the first things I see is this angel playing his harp for me.

  • Soul. Love. Sincerity. Unique. I miss him.

  • one of THE great high priests of rocknroll!

  • Good stuff... Touching.

  • He put on a few pounds but stayed true to the hair and for that he should be exaulted...I dub him King Auto-Harp

  • Absolutely Amazing. Wherever you are brother Rob, we miss you and thanks for the songs, and for the great voice!

  • Who are these guys again? I've never seen them but funny.

  • singer MC5

  • Hey, Give it up, that was beautiful.. RIP, Rob and Dave.

How about the rest of the clip, interview and all,

    thanks for posting..

  • Yes, that's the MC5's Rob Tyner, with late WABX "Air Ace" Dave Dixon. Rest in peace, gentlemen...

  • There was also something vaguely embarrassing about Tyner (especially his lyrics) even in the MC5 days -- but he was awe-inspiring anyway, and this video is very cool too.

  • Rob Tyner too...

  • this dude is a MILLION times better than McCoy Tyner could ever be!

  • this isn't the mc5 tyner is it?

    god i hope not

  • Wow
