Very talented. I'm glad I discovered Rob, and the MC5, a few weeks back. The post that said he was an odd looking man, could have been more correct buy saying unique...at anyrate, I caught myself feelng the same curious thought about his image and watched the 1970 performance of "Kick out the Jams" (here on youtube, the black & white taping) over and over for the last 3 weeks - unique, facinating, and talented.
I remember standing in the mens room at the Grande talking to Rob while he picked his hair out into the afro that he was known for. Really a nice guy but was driven by his music and left wing thinking. Also, at the beginning of the vid is Dave Dixon, who was well known from the radio station WABX who was playing all the "radical and hippie" music. Dave also played music later in his carrer at WDET, back when they weren't a corporate run station. May they both rest in peace, w/the R&R angels!
Agreed! This is unquestionably the beauty of what you-tube offers. The immortal ROB TYNER, playing his heart out, with a beautiful song that touches us all!
The 2 ppl who disliked this musta been 1 of the ppl they actually booted from The Grande. Like this historic place they are out there somewhere rotting away. Difference is they have no soul!
For those who do not know who or what you are looking at... this man is one of Rock n Rolls greatest influences the place of which tells this haunting tale also played an INCREDIBLE role in the Rock history...
bzcrouse92... you are why Hannah Montana sells Cds
For those who KNOW... seeing Rob Tyners face again makes me smile... in my soul

OK, I wasn't sure what the instrument was, thanks for the lesson anonyarena. Not something you see everyday for sure. If I am ever on jeopardy I will certainly pick with confidence "German Beer Hall instruments" for 500. Looks like a burden to play although he does it admirably.
To modread 666: That's an autoharp, not a harpsichord. Autoharp is a folk instrument made popular by The Carter Family. Check out videos of The Electric Prunes or The Lovin' Spoonful to see other rock bands with autoharp. The Left Banke played harpsichord, which is a baroque piano-like keyboard instrument favored by Bach. Marianne Faithfull also used harpsichord on her hit single "Summer Nights."

I love the outfit. A true testament to walmarts economic reaches. For a guy with a harpsichord he rocks but too bad the ocarina player had gotten a herpes sore on his lip as that would have been awesome. I did get the greatest hits CD when i purchased the slap-chop and it rocks. It is too bad his band was mismanaged and he wound up as the lunch lady at Misquamicut high school.....my what could have been. By the way, Norbert from naked gun called, he wants his 'fro back please.
A message to Rob...your absence is felt...your influence is undeniable...your band kicked major ass...our relationship was always one of mutual respect...Grande Days indeed !!
