On 8 October 1996, during the escalation over Imia/Kardak a Greek Mirage 2000 fired an R550 Magic and shot down a Turkish F-16D over the Aegean Sea. The Turkish government claims was on a training mission north of the Greek island of Samos, close to the Turkish mainland. The Turkish pilot died, while the co-pilot ejected and was rescued by Greek forces.
Crashed into the Aegean Sea nine miles off the island of Chios during a routine flight. It was part of a flight of four F-4's and two F-16's. Just prior to the mishap two Mirage 2000's intercepted them. One of two person crew was rescued but the other is missing. According to an official report, the TUAF formation had illegaly violated Hellenic airspace and so was intercepted by 2 HAF Mirage 2000EG (331sqn, 114FW, Tanagra AB).
The 2 TUAF F-16s evidently denied to comply and started aggressive maneuvers against the HAF Mirage 2000EG. During the engagement that followed, one of the HAF Mirage 2000EG (piloted by Lt. Grivas) fired a Magic IR missile. As a result a TUAF F-16D (#91-0023) was shot down. Immediately the second TUAF F-16 paused the engagement and escaped to the east in order to return to international air space.

To all my fellow Greek "patriots" I am not sure about how real this particular video is, but like this has happened in 1992. A HAF Mirage F1 engaged a pair of TAF F16s in one of the first such engagements over the Aegean. The Greek pilot went down in an almost vertical scissors maneuver using gravity and trading altitude for speed soas to overcome his aircraft's shortcomings compared to 3rd generation F16s. Dude. I am not proud of the incidences that took place . Look. Germans, burned down jews in owens to erase them. What we did is to force 1.400.000 armenians to leave our lands. On the road, 200.000 armenians died this is true. But this is not called genocide. We did this becaouse they were attacking to Turkish villages and making macassere. It was war. And for the last 150 years armenians killed more than 400.000 TURKS in such. Can you understand the difference?

have you ever watched a video of turkish stars? an aerobatic group of 8 nf-15? nobody can fly like this... they get opposite and draws X with only 2 or 3 meters difference... only turkish pilots can do it without crash..
And greece is near a crysis whics causes from this dogfights xD perhaps fuel is running lowxD

On 8 October 1996, during the escalation over Imia/Kardak a Greek Mirage 2000 fired an R550 Magic and shot down a Turkish F-16D over the Aegean Sea. The Turkish government claims was on a training mission north of the Greek island of Samos, close to the Turkish mainland. The Turkish pilot died, while the co-pilot ejected and was rescued by Greek forces.

Crashed into the Aegean Sea nine miles off the island of Chios during a routine flight. It was part of a flight of four F-4's and two F-16's. Just prior to the mishap two Mirage 2000's intercepted them. One of two person crew was rescued but the other is missing. According to an official report, the TUAF formation had illegaly violated Hellenic airspace and so was intercepted by 2 HAF Mirage 2000EG (331sqn, 114FW, Tanagra AB).

The 2 TUAF F-16s evidently denied to comply and started aggressive maneuvers against the HAF Mirage 2000EG. During the engagement that followed, one of the HAF Mirage 2000EG (piloted by Lt. Grivas) fired a Magic IR missile. As a result a TUAF F-16D (#91-0023) was shot down. Immediately the second TUAF F-16 paused the engagement and escaped to the east in order to return to international air space.

The Turkish pilot says " Oh no (God!) he has crashed to the sea!".
This shows Turkish pilot has a respect to his opponent, even he is his enemy. But I'm sure if Turk pilot has crashed, than the Greek pilot would laugh a lot and enjoy this...
