  • is it better than a normal keyboard (not mechanical)? is it also good for typing? is it worth the price? Thanks!

  • @feliperadke I would say that it's definitely a step up from a non-mechanical keyboard. It's very good for typing. I enjoy the feeling of the keys much more. As for if it's worth it or not... That's very subjective. If you're willing to spend $80 on a keyboard and have no problem with spending, go for it. I think it's a great keyboard and I'm glad I bought mine. If you're on a tight budget, however, you could probably do fine with a $20 board and not have any major problems.

  • @jmario101 Looks like you have never used a mechanical keyboard. I got the razer blackwidow and I never want a rubberdome keyboard again.

  • <<check out my channel!

  • i cant get the keys to light up, only the symbol help!!

  • @giordstar44 FN+F12 mate :)

  • @giordstar44 keys can be light up only on ultimate edidion!

  • This one or the Lycosa..???

  • @KibeMadafaka 100% this one. This one is mechanical and the Lycosa isn't.

  • @KibeMadafaka this..Lycosa is old

  • how much is it ? where can i buy it?!??!?!

  • cashier machine sound =D awesome!

  • Good choice of music mate. In Flames for the win!

  • @TheWupperdo, nps just been mad because it didn´t work sorry for rage :) Good luck. :D

  • @GrQnlund1 I have never had a problem with any button not working on mine. Sorry to hear you're having trouble.

  • @GrQnlund1 maybe its not the keybored's fault but your computer cant comprehend technology that is two ice ages ahead of it.

  • @GrQnlund1 Well maybe if you weren't a dumb ass you would return it and replace it. i bet you would have been a lot happier if you would have. This keyboard if amazing hands down. 2nd best in my opinion.

  • @GrQnlund1 its the best keyboard ive ever had...except the loudness

  • checkout my review on the razer blackwidow by going to razerblackwidowreview(dot)com

  • So mindfucked at the start

  • is it good for gaming like can u keep ur fingers on the keys without them been pushed back ?

  • @charlot1993 Yes definitely. The keys easily have enough resistance to prevent unintentional keystrokes.

  • What do you think: Ultimate or Normal one cuz I'm really going to buy one and I don't know which one... Pls tell me why is the Ultimate better than the other! :)

  • @Duduhead1996 Ultimate really doesn't have that many advantages... It's lit, it has a USB port or 2, and a line in and line out (mic and heaphones). I personally don't think the extra $50 or whatever it is makes it worth buying.

  • Why doesnt my Razer logo glow? I have same keyboard...

  • @Cooling23 maybe cus u dont have the ultimate edition

  • how do i get the bleu light to work the razer logo

  • @Bjornnoo Its in the drivers i think

  • is this backlit, i cant tell?

  • @spudzillav2 No, it is not. The logo in the middle is lit up, as are the num lock, caps lock, and scroll lock lights. None of the actual keys are lit though.

  • Anyone ever tell you that you sound like Toby from The Office?

  • The FN + Alt key is the "On the fly macro recording" feature that let's you record a macro without going into the software.

  • How does this compare to the ultimate edition?

  • @aaamarco3 The ultimate edition has backlit keys, 2 USB ports, and a mic in and headphone port on the side of the board. I believe those are the differences.

  • when you press the alt fn combo it copyies the key and can place it on another or it can disable or enable the key. It is confusing but after tweaking around with it for a while i kinda got it down and found out it is useless to have.

  • Hey, are the keys rubberized? Nice review btw )

  • @Hunterbgpz Thanks! No, unfortunately the keys are just simple plastic. The lettering seems to be printed on, since I can just barely feel that there is slight rise over the black part of the plastic. Since the time of this review with moderate-heavy use (2 hrs. of typing per day average would be my guess), I have seen no signs of wear on the letters, or any part of the keyboard for that matter. Hope this helps!

  • @TheWupperdo

Thanks, it was helpful, so, in your opinion, which keyboard is the best choice price/quality-wise?

  • @Hunterbgpz They are not rubberized on the Standard version, but they are rubberized on the Ultimate version. Also, the Ultimate version gets cherry picked Cherry MX switches, the keys feel more consistent whereas the standard version gets what's left... So the Ultimate has better key feel overall besides illuminated keys, USB and audio ports.

Check the review on Techreport for more details.

I have the Standard version and I love it. Hope this helps.

  • where did you get your COOL wallpaper? :O

  • @MyLemons I got it from the razer website, it should be under the fan stuff there

  • league of legends win 2:12

  • What monitor do you have?

  • @MrLeftygod I believe it's the Asus MS236H or something like that

  • never mind, they were covered later on...

  • Is there some sort of media keys in this?

  • I love the sound of this keyboard! I was planning on buying a black widow, but i have a mac. I keep hearing they're not Mac compatible, and they are. i'm just buying it for mostly typing purposes and not gaming purposes.

  • @OHHERROitsPANDA I'm pretty sure they either just released or are planning to release Mac versions of their keyboards soon. You might want to check that out before you buy. I think the only difference is they have the little apple key and function key

  • @OHHERROitsPANDA

Well there is a Mac driver for it

you can find it on Razersupport(Dot)com

  • @OHHERRO they are*NOW* mac compadable

  • The M is for recording a macro

  • ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ.

Every key hit for me first time through and I'm using the Razer BlackWidow as well.

  • Jester Race and Clayman

    My favorite In Flames albums.\m/

  • the ultimate looks so so so much better but £50 for some LED action really!!??

  • @woollerland I just bought a regular edition. My reasoning for not buying the LED version was that if ever it have problems, it might be harder to repair (and of course it s a lot more expensive -_-)

  • are the keys backlit?

  • @zarrnet Yes

  • @TheQhozt you sure? i thought only the ultimate had backlit keys

  • @zarrnet I double checked and you are right, it is only the ultimate that has backlighting

  • logitech g510 w/ both shift held down: ABDEFGHILJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ only C missing...

  • ABDEFGHIJKLNOPQRSUW,with my shitty 5 year old Dell keyboard.

  • Give u a thumb up. But just remind guys who wants to buy ultimate or regular. Go for the regular if u want to buy a blackwidow. If u don't care about or have millions to spent on gaming. Go 4 the ultimate. Blackwidow is a mechanical keyboard . Bad thing about them is they make way much noise. I personally think. Mechanical is more like a downgrade keyboard . :( but good thing they last long long long.

  • Which one is better? BlackWidow ultimate or this one?

  • @DTFProphet Not at all... I just about never look at my keys while I type. They would probably look pretty cool lit up, but I don't see it as necessary at all.

  • BCEGHIMNOPQRUVWXZ

With my £4.99 crap keyboard from Tesco ;-)

How often does anyone use both shift keys simultaneously anyway?

  • This might be the silliest question, but what size are the keys? Say, like the top of the key from the near edge to the far edge. I heard people saying that the BlackWidow is "smaller" than most keyboards, so I wanted to get a sense for that before I even considered dropping money on it.

  • I like your review style, you should review more stuffs.

  • Mamba, Mako adn Black Widow, Cheers ;P

  • I'm looking for a new keyboard, and this interested me. Just can't stand the typewriter sound of mechanicals.

  • The FN + M keys are on-the-fly macro recording, if logic serves me right.

Also, In Flames = automatic win.

  • how do u get the logo to light up?

  • can you see the keys if it's dark? having trouble about the ultimate.. too pricy

  • a bit nerdy bastard, but the keyboard is a fucking masterpiece.

  • can u hold down both shift and type A - Z here as reply to my comment?

with BlackWidow of course lol ;P

    ty

  • @DuyAnh1 ABCEFGHJKLQRTVWXYZ

Those are the letters that came out, I'm not sure why some didn't work?

  • @TheWupperdo That's odd, I thought the blackwidow had antighosting. Here's my laptop's performance with both shifts.

    ADEFGHIJKLOPRSTUWY

Funny, seems to be almost as good.

I've heard that the blackwidow's keys are smaller than most keyboards. Is this true (it's rather hard to tell from the video)? If so, does it bother you at all?

  • @TheWupperdo

There is a limitation on the USB interface, so holding multiple modifiers can cause some issues. If they keyboard is interfacing via PS2, it will work fine with full NKRO (N-key rollover), meaning you can press every single key on the keyboard at once and they will all register, the steelseries 6Gv2 and 7G support this method

  • @TheWupperdo ouch!

based on that the keyboard isnt functioning well as I thought it would xD

Did u use the PS/2 or USB port?

  • Hey where do you get the configuration page ?

  • @timwyk what configuration page ur talking about dude?

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ > with my Ttesport MEKA G1 Mechanical Keyboard =) nothing missing

  • @DuyAnh1 where you macro the keys !

  • @DuyAnh1 ABDEFGHIJKLNOPKRSUW

    that all that came out

  • @DuyAnh1 what does that mean? =/ i tried it on my laptop and the only letter that didnt show was A

  • @entree91 the PS/2 is the one that's purple (beside the green)

PS/2 allows you to type more without ghosting comparing with USB =)

  • Comment removed

  • the M key is for recording macros on the fly. :D

  • do the keys light up or no?

  • @rejhan97 it actually glows

  • Hey mate! Where can i find that awesome wallpaper?! Thanx!

  • for some reason i love the loud clicking sounds when you type

  • @AsianStyled Me too. It makes it feel more solid.

  • I don't know if this has been posted anywhere else but the FN + M button is for on-the-fly macro recording without having to open the software.

  • umm wtf did u do eith ur other keyboard?

  • any problems with keys randomly typing or the leds or any problems at all?

Just asking cause my lycosa has a ton of bugs

  • @rejhan97 glows

  • how far someone can hear that sound i want buy but in this video its not ultra hard how hard is it?

  • In Flames is one of my fave bands \m/...oh and nice keyboard :D

  • @cahmroiss Ultimate only. But if you think about it, paying an extra $50 for backlights, USB connector (won't ever be used), audio jack (won't ever be used) isn't worth it lol.

  • Can someone who has it or has heard it in person plz help: Is each keystroke a little loud cause i game late at night and my parents might shoot my ass if it is LOUD and annoying at like 3 in the morning :D THX for the help :D

  • @pushpoppushpop Yes it is very loud and your parents will definitely hear you LOL. That's when you switch to your old keyboard :)

  • @kinkehpanda lol shit man

  • Is the lighting customizable, or is it only blue?

  • 2 key rollover. Yaaaawn.

  • are the keys glossy or plastic

  • @maskeddude1997 the keys are not glossy. it's just all the other places it is. But the keys are not.

  • is this compatible with an iMac?

  • whats the m do and whats pon the fly?

  • can u set the macros to eny key on the keyboard or only on the 5 macro keys?

  • @MasterLakey any key

  • should I get this or lycosa?

  • @fileman73 do NOT get the lycosa, you would just be waisting your money, i got my first one over the summer and im now on my 4th because its a very cheaply made keyboard.

  • @2011sjona hmm..i got my Lycosa for about a year ago (24th dec 2009) and it works great. Don't know if i just have been lucky..but my keyboard works fine =)

  • OMFG it sounds soooo horrible! Sounds like the first keyboard ever made!!! It took a long time for develepors to get rid of that sound and now Razer has brought it back! Wtf Razer!? I love you but come on!!!

The M button shoud be for the On The Fly macro keys

  • @Spitfire727 They didn't get rid of it. They just invented cheaper ways to make keyboards. They now use rubber domes instead of mechanical switches, which reduces the cost by a ton.

  • It would be very helpful to find out how noisy it is compared to regular 'rubber-dome' keyboards like the old one you threw away. Do you personally think the noise increase is worth the improved key input action? Many thanks - you could be saving me a hundred dollars here.

  • OMG BLACKWIDOW MAMBA MAKO MEGALODON YOU HAVE FUCKIN EVRYTHING LIKE I WANT !

  • the alignment feels so weird.. i cant type as fast as before and i need to look at the keys to type.. i kinda dont like it..

  • i thought it wasnt out yet?

did you have to preorder it to get it?

  • @nysagu ya you have to pre-order it, other country already has it.... some how.. like long time ago, i using mine right now

  • IT SOUNDS HORRIBLE!! it would wake up whole building!

  • TOO loud! My GF wont able to sleep behind me! :))

  • Im pretty sure the M is the macro record button

  • That FN + ALT is ont the fly macro so: You do the fn + alt and then you select your key that needs to be macro. Then you press your other keys like ALT+CTRL+DEL to be programmed to the macro.

  • Can you share with me your razer wallpaper :x. Thx much in advance ;))

  • Your old keyboard is the exact same one i'm using lol.

  • Razer MAKO!

  • lol why not ultimate

  • @BlackOpsmediaahd personally i think that keboards like the ultimate with usb ports and built in sound cards are incompatible with most new motherboards nowadays. Many many many problems with keyboards with headphone and usb ports. You can read them yourself. That's why I wanted to get the logitech g15 but due to the complains i'll stick to getting a keyboard without all that shit. You don't need those shit anyways. The blackwidow original version would be great.

  • The FN+Alt key (which engages the red light) allows you to record macros on the fly.

  • You listen to In Flames! :D Gr8 Man :DD

  • That's probably the nicest sounding mechanical keyboard I've heard, at least IMO.

In 5 minutes I went from not knowing what this keyboard was to wantwantwant.

  • @ahealthybigmac If you like that then you should try the steelseries 7g. I've tried both of these keyboards (and many other razer products), and the 7g beats it hands down for quality and feel. Also this doesn't offer the same anti-ghosting the 7g offers.

  • Ur Old Keyboard lol

  • Love In Flames :)

  • hmm...funny 600$ razer gear + old cheap table = niceee=)))

  • How do you feel about the reduced actuation distance of the keyboard? I've found that the typical mechanical keyboard has an actuation distance of 4mm, whereas the distance for this is 2mm. Razer purports that this helps with gaming and typing. What do you think?

    Thanks!

  • @PooPooPerson hm, I can't really say to be honest since this is the only mechanical keyboard that I've ever typed on. I haven't noticed a huge difference in performance due to the shorter actuation, but the feel of the keys versus my old board is a vast improvement... they're a lot smoother and just feel like they're of higher quality. Hope this helps!

  • @PooPooPerson You will find more info looking around for info on the cherry mx blue switches.

  • I think the m key you are talking about is on the fly macro recording. You hit it then select a macro key on the left to assign it to, the start typing up a macro, then somehow stop it.

not sure though. I want to buy this KB, but its not out yet. tomorrow it is, I think! I just wish it didnt have that stupid gloss on it. My deathadder has it and holy shit, when its dirty it drives me nuts. amazing mouse though.

  • Is the blackwidow ultimate worth the money?

  • @SianZTheLoner

$50 for backlit keys sounds stupid to me. Maybe if it was $20 more or something I would.

For >$100 keyboards you can get better ones than the black widow. you can get ones will full n key rollover (means you can hit as many buttons as you want without it 'not registering' some. some people call it 'ghosting' but that is not the correct tern).

It has cherry blue switches, which lots of pro keyboards use, so for a cheap mechanical keyboard I think it is nice.

  • @skr1p7k1dd ok

  • @skr1p7k1dd

There is also a USB, mic, and headphone port on the ultimate version =p

  • in flames we trust

  • mine doesn't make any noise :D thats why I love it

  • anyway... nice review it made me more interested into the keyboard..

so... i come from a generic keyboard(the half dollar ones) so ill ask sum questions on it :3

    I. i play a lot of full screen games... does the media buttons work while im @ full screen gaming?

II. Is there a MACRO PROFILE ON THE FLY?

cause i play a lot of different kinds of games and want my swap to be instant

III. I love cats :3 do you? :3

thanks_ hope for your answer soon =)

  • @micolil

    1. when playing Crossfire the media keys didn't work, haven't tested with others yet

    2. Yes, you can make any button switch macro profiles, and create new macros on the fly as well. I don't use macros a lot personally, though.

    3. Orange ones =)

  • i thought u were typing into the typewriter x.x i was waiting for the "TING" sound :3

  • hey wupperdo, thanks for the review im really contemplating picking one up. How are you finding the sound? Thats my only concern. It sounds kind of loud and like it COULD get annoying, have you gotten used to it?

And also, does the glossy ness of the keyboard attract much finger prints?

  • @Adrian1105 I've found the sound to not be bothersome. It is definitely louder than some other keyboards, but it's not overwhelming. It's actually kind of satisfying to have the feedback on every key hit. (To me it is, at least.) The glossyness is, unfortunately, a fingerprint magnet just like any other. It hasn't been a huge problem for me though since my fingers are usually covering where there would be prints.

    Hope this helps!

  • Cheap blue switch mechanical AND looks good? Sold for me.

  • I NEED this keyboad, serious, its so fucking pretty mutch beatufil *.*

... I only unlikes Razer's Headsets, but the rest its amazing.

  • Awesome! Thanks! :)

  • Can u give me the link of that pretty wallpaper ? :)

  • www2.razerzone [dot] com/downloads/wallpapers/

  • Pretty good review.

I believe the key combination you didn't know is on the fly macro recording.

Can you revamp other Keys besides the Macrokeys in the software?

  • @Tw9tch Ok, did some more digging and found out that the "M" key is indeed on the fly macro recording. The way it works is you turn on the m, record your macro, click it again so it starts flashing, then hit the key that you want the macro to go to.

And to answer your question, yes, all the keys are fully programmable. When I was trying to figure out the on-the-fly macro recorder a whole bunch of my regular letters actually became macros haha.

  • @TheWupperdo Can u undo those keys easily?

  • i love the sound when you type :D im still waiting for mine to come in.... preordered and only ship on the 13

  • wow i see u play crossfire me 2 what s u game id? my name is rage_bofeng

  • @bofengli Yeah, haven't played in a while though. My in-game is ChugCoffee. I'll get on some more in the near future though so you can add me if you want

  • Im guessing its a "M" key allows you to set a macro key anytime you want without using the software, i may be wrong though, but nice keyboard :D
