There is lots of very good interplay here. I think they intended to end the tune at around 6:38, judging from Keith's reaction, but they recovered nicely Thanks for the upload.
just transposed the entire intro 48 seconds and it took me 7 hours, polishing will take a month or less, nice add to the massive set list. Must have Chi, and be able to apply it to the piano in feel and spirit to even come miles close to his presentation. Its a good day...
Keith Jarrett's laugh and smile at 6:40 says it ALL! He knows its been amazing and the show has been a total success and these are damn good times, the best for ANY musician, especially a well deserved MASTER like KEITH. Jack and him exchange that knowing recognition that the flight is almost landed and soon to be home. This makes me so happy!!!!
This would be the true Chamber Music. Like we listen to Bach and Mozart today, some 300 years from now they would listen to this... He definitely brought jazz to the level of classical music.
I wouldn't mix Mehldau and such with the likes of Evans and Jarrett. I think Mehldau is a decent pianist but has no real feeling and I'm afraid is a bit shallow in expression. There are only a few pianists who are also great musicians like Jarrett. Mehldau and few others are having success only due to a lack of better choices. That is unfortunate. I hope there will be more young musicians that would be able to rise up and show us some new ways of music creation. Christian Sands is one example.

I love this really but what sort of feel is he using. The drums and bass seem to be playing standard 3/4 but the melody from jarret sounds very "over the bar" if you get me. I just cant feel what he is doing lol
(re: the moaning)THe same was true with Glenn Gould and Oscar Peterson (to a lesser degree) I find it adds another dimension to the music...Try to allow your mind to accept it that way!
for me, the more of his music i listen to, the more i get used to all the sounds he makes. i don't even hear it anymore, all i hear is piano and genius
i think those moans are part of him, but they should be eliminated, don't misunderstand me... I only think that the result could be slightly better with a lower volume on his moans that's it ^^
I truly respect jarretts moaning, if that helps him increase his creative output. But why do the engineers place the microphones right near his head? The moaning isnt an added sound that is part of the actual piece, its something that obviously makes jarrett capable of playing better, so it should be kept as silenced as possible. But thats just my opinion
The moaning is part of the music in is brain and actually does help him... so it's positive beyind all points of view, plus, I believe nothing is left to case, and probably he himself wants the mic there.
Playing and listening to so much music almost all the time, from classical, baroque, brazilian, jazz including Evans,BradMehldau,Corea,Hancock, ambient, progressiv e rock,etc.. Everytime I go back to Jarrett I feel he is an inch ahead of everyone in regards to depth of expression. But it is a monumental inch! This is just my own perception. Don't mean to pronouce the truth here!
You speak almost my exact thoughts! (And you also share similar musical interests....)Saw the trio last night and I can tell you I totally share your perception - Jarrett is all about truth for me
@guscaldas2 only those truly experienced can express like this....are you experienced? A question I remember in Jimmy's vocals actually...um could it be true that if you have been to hell and back then you are those chosen ones that are truly experienced, life is short but this, this will live forever..thank you KEITH.
@guscaldas2 I recently bought Mehldau's newest piano solo record. Live in Marciac 2006. Then I went back and listened to Jarrett's 100th Performance in Japan DVD and felt the same way. I'm almost tempted to say that Jarrett is probably the best living pianist right now
my life would be so much more dull if i never heard about Jarrett.

Being a habit that's stuck with him for decades of his career, I think it will be challenging for him to get rid of it.
They say they use it when they play music that's hard to memorize.
