TheBassImprov, it's a myth that you can't fire public school teachers. I know three that were and one of them had 25 years under her belt and tenure. The other two should have been fired. The one tried, but could never control the kids and the other was mentally ill (I've know her for years and couldn't believe she'd hired in the first place). Both were snatched up shortly after being fired by the same charter. Fired public school teachers often end up in charters which can only make you wonder.

Rushball is lying as usual. He tells only what he wants people to hear. Charters pick the best students and cast the rest back into the public schools. Charters have been a way for both Democrats and Republican polticians to get rich. They pay the highest administration fees and the lowest teachers wages. Unionbusting at it's finest.

Rush is typically full of shyte. However, Charter schools are exchanging wages for health care plans. More importantly they are giving legal and illegal Latinos and black children an opportunity to see education as a commodity. It is working effectively and I think Obama and Duncan are in a bind because naturally the Democrats are suppose to support teacher unions. This bypasses all that union bureaucracy that usually keep crappy teachers.

Obama supports these voucher programs, he even wanted to double it on a national scale. The real problem are democrats in congress are catering to the special interest groups. It's annoying. That's way I hate politics, both Repubs and Dems pick sides where the money's at, an leaves the rest of us behind. Both sides splits up all the special interests groups and form their policies around that. So you get half good and half bad policy from each party.

There is a lot of contraversy over vouchers but obama probly let the kids stay there because noone had a better idea. and he doesn't want to enroll more kids, to increase pressure on ppl to think of something new... he is sick of same old same mold.

Same old? It's a few years old and it really works. The DOE study found that. They killed the program, then threw a bone to the students already in it.

The sick part is, this program was designed so that when a child leaves the public school, their old school still gets the money as though they were still attending. This was put in to stop objections that vouchers "take money from schools that need it."

Stop excusing things that hurt needy kids.

I think Obama's dream is to force us ALL to move to the city. Just look at Cap and Trade, Gas taxes, his obsession with building transportation infrastructure in cities, the idea of taxing us for miles driven.

If he can get us all together, living in hovels, we will be easier to control.
