The public is invited to visit the temple during an open house from Friday, 18 May through Saturday, 2 June 2012, excluding Sundays. Free tickets will be distributed for the open house; details will be made available in the coming weeks. The temple will be formally dedicated on Sunday, 10 June 2012, in three sessions. The dedicatory sessions will be broadcast to all congregations of the Church in Brazil.
However, the faithful assurance that it is a translation has not had an accompanying understanding of how that translation took place. How could the ill-educated Joseph Smith translate the ancient text on the golden plates into the English Book of Mormon upon which so many base not only their faith, but a willingness to completely change their lives?
@omiolo "ser mormon es ser feliz"? Well they do say ignorance is bliss and what could be more ignorant than people who believe the total twaddle peddled by Smith and his compatriots and who willfully deny all the evidence that prove his lies and dishonesty?
@omiolo I certainly prefer to know as little of your insane cult as possible, just enough to rip through your idiotic and infantile belief system. I'm sure the creatures at the top of your cult hierarchy know all about how to gain power through knowledge of the arcane but who wants such satanic power? They also have the knowledge that your cult is built on a foundation of lies and deception. Your willful IGNORANCE of that makes you look thicker than an elephant sandwich.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has new leaders for its Baton Rouge Temple and missionary work.
Severia Baunchand is the new president of the Baton Rouge Temple, which services church members throughout Louisiana, as well as parts of Mississippi and Alabama.
Local congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormon Church, are called either branches or wards depending on their size. Bishop Philipp Urbanowski, one of two bishops in the Jamaica Ward, said the Mormon Church has about 28,000 wards altogether.
"Anybody's welcome at our services," said Sister Doris Rasmussen, who came from the church's headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, to assist in the opening. "We hope we can be a good asset to the community."
The Jamaica Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints welcomed members of the community to its new location on 163rd Street for an open house Saturday and Sunday. The six-story building will offer religious services, classes and other activities.
Christian Price, running for mayor of Maricopa, is a Mormon and a Republican, although the local city council race is nonpartisan.
"It's conservative values," Price said of what makes many in the LDS faith gravitate to the Republican party. "As the world changes, we tend to stay a little more conservative."
Mormons "will also matter on February 28 in Arizona (6% LDS), and in later caucuses in Idaho (27% LDS) and Wyoming (11% LDS), right down to heavily-Mormon Utah, which ends the whole nominating process on June 26
Elder Dallin H. Oaks signed the document on behalf of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The charter emphasizes the vital nature and moral importance of the obligations associated with religious freedom, including the incisive observation that a "society is only as just and free as it is respectful of [freedom of religion and conscience] for its smallest minorities and least popular communities."
These principles are splendidly articulated in The Williamsburg Charter. Drafted as a national "reaffirmation of the First Amendment," signatories included leaders of government (including two former presidents of the United States), business, education and faith groups and many other interests.
But freedom of religion and conscience require more than simply living and coexisting with our differences. These preeminent freedoms also create rejuvenating obligations.
All recipients of religious freedom -- every group and individual who is free to live according to the dictates of conscience -- must in turn protect that same freedom for all others, especially the most vulnerable, whether religious or not. That is the obligation. And it is rejuvenating because it "enable[s] diversity to be a source of national strength.
Mormons do not hold to or accept as spiritually binding the decisions and formulations of the post-New Testament church councils (Nicaea, Constantinople, Ephesus)
Although we have many things in common with different denominations, we are not a part of Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, or Protestant Christianity. Instead, we claim that ours is an entirely different expression of original Christianity--restored Christianity.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is built upon the person, power, divine Sonship and teachings of Jesus Christ. He is our Savior, our Lord and our God. Salvation comes in and through Him and in no other way. He alone has the power to forgive sins, cleanse hearts and raise people from the dead. He is also the great Exemplar, the model for happiness and the abundant life.

@omiolo Err, what post would that be Mr. Moron? I did reply to your idiotic post about Mr. Loughner. You haven't a leg to stand on in any debate as your entire cult is based on lies, fabrications, damned lies, (mentioned twice because they were so HUGE!), fraud, greed and lust. The Book of Moron is believable only by people who are willing to totally suspend their reasoning and accept a load of rubbish that has nothing to back it up. The fake translation of the Papyrus proves Smith a liar. LOL!
@omiolo What on earth gives a buffoon like you the impression that I am uneducated? Actually, I have a degree from a good university and another one from the university of hard knocks and getting the shit kicked out of you. I've been around a long time and I know when I'm conversing with a scheister and I'm doing that with you. Name calling? No, just giving your idiotic cult the name it should have. Who in their right mind would believe the BS spouted by Smith the con man? The papyrus proves it.
Mormons place a high priority on family life. Large majorities say that being a good parent (81 percent) and having a successful marriage (73 percent) are among their most important goals in life, far surpassing the numbers in the general public who say the same.
@omiolo mormons bein more moral.. are they not taught they have to earn there way into heaven? these mormons are being moral under threat of failing to enter the celestial kingdom. staying with ur wife out of fear and obligation tends to me to seem to wipe out a genuine love and makes it a cumpolsory love. which is not love. the free will is tampered with under religous fear
@lravenhill "they will have to earn there way into heaven?"
I do NOT think you find EARN and HEAVEN together in ANY LDS scripture. But feel free to mischaracterize the LDS faith ANYWAY you have to so that you do NOT have to focus on your FAILING faith.
@omiolo ive seen mormon books also entitled how to qualify for the celestial kingdom. are you telling me there is nothing you have to do whatsoever? please explain. Id like to hear your comments.
In addition to explaining that most faithful Latter-day Saints follow the biblical principle of tithing and donate "one tenth" of their increase, Otterson explained how these Church funds are utilized.
Asked whether immigrants are a strength or a burden, 59 percent of white evangelicals said they were a burden, while only 41 percent of Mormons felt the same, compared to 44 percent of the general public. The result is surprising given how staunchly conservative Mormons are on nearly every measure. Interestingly, 50 percent of white mainline Protestants and 49 percent of white Catholics also tilt against immigration, though neither group is as uniformly conservative as evangelicals or Mormons
Peterson doesn't agree with Joseph's statement in section 132:63 wherein he explains the ONLY purpose for polygamy--God's purpose (?).
The purpose was "to multiply and replenish...earth." Clearly this relates to "growing" the church through procreation. If that's true, and he DIDN'T have sex with the wives God gave him, it's clear Joseph was violating God's command as stated in vs 63.
The only way out of this dilemma is for an apologist to jimmy "multiply and replenish" to fit the LDS tale.
I helped in a service project doing landscaping for a widow. We used rods. We found the pipes (PVC). It works. It worked for all of us. I don't know how it works, but it does.
While the existing Melvin J. Ballard Building has two floors above grade, the new building is being designed to have several more floors above grade. The new building will house classrooms equipped with modern technological resources to be used by missionaries.
The Melvin J. Ballard Building has served as home to the MTC bookstore, the MTC mailroom, the training resource center and four large-group meeting rooms. During the demolition and subsequent construction process, the bookstore and mailroom will be moving into the soon-to-be-completed east wing of the Jacob Hamblin Building.
@omiolo Let me guess, you are a member of the Cherch of Loser Gay Tools who doesn't have the cognitive reasoning power to see through all the utter bullcrap generated by Joseph, (I'm a pure charlatan), Smith, am I right? Just watched the highly informative and amusing video about the fake translation he did of the book of the dead that he said was the Book of Abramovitch, (you know, that Russian Jew that we can blame for all these bullshit religions), watch it and weep: /watch?v=rn1iGvXU0dI
@omiolo Easy but totally wrong, just like your bonkers wee cult run by a bunch of manipulative sociopaths and populated by brainwashed, gullible bumpkins with no clue what reality is like. I just want nutty cults like the Morons to be bombed out of existence as that is what they deserve.
@omiolo No, thinking is something that atheists do for themselves, religious 'sheeple' who are organised into 'flocks' by their 'pastors' for ease of 'fleecing' are the ones who have been lobotomised to ensure that they don't think for themselves and don't question the total bollocks that they are being spoon fed by their corrupt leaders. You are so correct, I am a SMART one but I came to a battle of wits and my opponent was only half armed, my bad.
Bonner said church officials prefer Greenfield because it's "a very nice centrally located" community relative to their congregations.
Currently, the two congregations that are looking for a new home share a church with two other congregations in Hales Corners, he said. Church leaders had their eye on 4.2 acres of vacant land on the southeast corner of 35th Street and Barnard Avenue in Greenfield.
The group was separated into two "companies" as well as smaller family groups consisting of a Ma and Pa and nine "children" in each family. Their life-changing experience lasted four days as families worked together and walked in the shoes of their Mormon ancestors.
The FAIR Conference is an annual event that brings together scholars, apologists and interested individuals from a variety of areas.
"Each speaker comes with a unique perspective on history, science or theology and all come with a desire to help defend the gospel and share evidences of its truth," a news release stated.
I do NOT agree with blocking you unless you are vulgar, however, you have to admit that YOU have NO substance and play more games than Parker Brothers.
@omiolo Yes Omiolo. Your unrelated posts are a game you play. Every now and then you actually engage in conversation but in the whole your comments are totally unrelated to any one or anything.
The Foundation for Apologetic Information & Research is hosting the 13th annual FAIR Mormon Apologetics Conference on Thursday and Friday.
Many people from Utah and outside the state interested in hearing discussion on current topics supporting beliefs and practices of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are prepared for the event.
"Sex was a minor part of Joseph Smiths polygamy" What a fat load of crap & more praise of Joseph Smith. Lets ignore the Egyptian Papyri facsimile the text makes sense it feels so old. The amount of crap these guys consume and spew amounts to a fat lot of nothing. He thought he was translating the Papyrus but he was actually getting direct revelation . : o What > The Papyri is not the same Papyri ????? He (JS ) used the word "translation in a different sense" Really ?
They have tested as many people that they can so far who were accusing Joseph Smith of being the father...and all DNA tests have come out negative. He is only the father of his own children with Emma, his wife.
@omiolo We are supposed to be afraid of this?? Are you serious? The guy seems like a overfed pussy cat. I'm sure if cornered by the facts, he'll hiss and scratch a little, but I don't think he could induce fear in anyone.
@omiolo But that's not the emotion I'm feeling. What is fearful about it? Peterson seems pleasant and at times vague. Makes some interesting admissions. All in all just what you would expect from a highly intelligent man trying to defend the indefensible. A man who also, in an attempt to forestall criticism from others, seems increasingly concilliatory and ecumenical in his approach to other faiths. With apologists like this the LDS will probably be like the C.O.C. within 20 years.

It is interesting isn't it, how Mormons treat those who come to the realisation that the church is not true. They get aggressive and mean. You don't know me, nor what my experience is. You only demonstrate your ignorance and serve to remind me why I left the church. A church, which has absolutely no basis in truth. It's time you rose to the occasion and realised that.
@fortune47 I forgot the clause that the more you say the sacred the name of Jesus Christ, the more Christian you are? Christianity is a religion of action not words.
@TheSkepticChristian read about the thief on the cross and then you figure it out.grace and grace alone........when you dilute grace you diluting what he did on the cross.
Depends on who in the blue hell you believe. Quinn a former BYU professor is pro gay. Was excommunicated for what? Do you know? Do you have his excommunication letter and the facts of it? Quinn studied the History of the LDS church..not Christian! He probably found out about all the lies and deceit that the LDS publishes for monkey's like you to swing on. For all you know he could of been gay and lied to at the same time. A double Whammy!
Outstanding interview. Even though I disagree with some of Dan Peterson’s reasoning (apologetics in general), I see that not all apologists in FARMS/FAIR community are "automatons". Apologetics was one of the reasons that made me question my faith altogether as I discovered more problems. But overall, I think some misconceptions about the apologetic community were pointed out.
People like Peterson are on the forefront of defense for the church. You will never get a apostle or a prophet to stand before the mass and BE HONEST. It is always a scripted interview or a reading from the teleprompter. This Bastard had the nerve to throw the Bible under bus at 3:10.
No anger here, just disgusted. The truth is not promoted. The truth comes with the LDS.inc stamp on it. Why do you think thousands of people left the LDS church? They've been lied to.
@YAAUFA Did Michael Quinn leave the Mormon Christian Church and abandon his family because he was gay or because he was lied to? Narrow is way and few be there that find it.
good interview,I have heard engineer use water dowsing, even now in 2011. Most people who work in farms are not paid for it,they help out Despite of having jobs, family and publication commitment. Joseph was not perfect but , he was not a liar
@spurs866 i have seen a controlled test of water dowsing, recorded, metered and tested by real scientists, and it was conclusively proved to be a load of old crap. In fact, lots of mormon theology has been proved to be the same. Peterson also says that Smith married the wives of other men to form bonds of kinship??? Do you really swallow that shit?
Absolute bollocks! How can this man be taken seriously as a scholar if he thinks that 'water dowsing' is a legtimate method. This man is supposed to be one of Mormonism's foremost thinkers. What a laugh! Is this all they have. His answers are insipid and anaemic. How can he hope to be taken seriously. Wotherspoon, panders and offers no challenge to Peterson. It's sickening and painful to watch. I thought he was better. Is Mormonstories losing it?
@verminpants He is basing his testimony on what he saw first hand and what he has experience. If you haven't experienced what he has experience it seems foreign to you.
@BornAgainstMormons But I have experienced what he has. I am a born and bred 2nd generation Mormon who believed it hook, line and sinker up until a few years ago. It was only a year ago that I stopped attending because I couldn't bear the idiocy of it any longer.
@verminpants There is no hook, line and sinker. Just because you couldn't rise to the occasion and experience that, don't degrade the experience of others that could and can.
@rcforjesus there is no way to explain Joseph Smith except as a liar, and once that is done there really isnt much there worth wasting much time on. Just look at the MORmONS, give them their way & they'll have ppl doing Pervert Joe Brand Baptisms for everyone including the dead and secret handshakes for MORmON godhood while LDS INC robs ppl blind.

Mormons place a high priority on family life. Large majorities say that being a good parent (81 percent) and having a successful marriage (73 percent) are among their most important goals in life, far surpassing the numbers in the general public who say the same.

@omiolo mormons bein more moral.. are they not taught they have to earn there way into heaven? these mormons are being moral under threat of failing to enter the celestial kingdom. staying with ur wife out of fear and obligation tends to me to seem to wipe out a genuine love and makes it a cumpolsory love. which is not love. the free will is tampered with under religous fear
lravenhill 6 days ago

@MasterAtheistic Yes, use as MANY catch words as you can so that you do NOT have to THINK for yourself. You are sure a SMART one!! LOL
omiolo 2 weeks ago

Of course NOT. But you and your cohorts in BITTERNESS are.

This Bastard had the nerve to throw the Bible under bus at 3:10.

good interview,I have heard engineer use water dowsing, even now in 2011. Most people who work in farms are not paid for it,they help out Despite of having jobs, family and publication commitment. Joseph was not perfect but , he was not a liar
spurs866 6 months ago
@spurs866 i have seen a controlled test of water dowsing, recorded, metered and tested by real scientists, and it was conclusively proved to be a load of old crap. In fact, lots of mormon theology has been proved to be the same. Peterson also says that Smith married the wives of other men to form bonds of kinship??? Do you really swallow that shit?

spurs866 6 months ago
Absolute bollocks! How can this man be taken seriously as a scholar if he thinks that 'water dowsing' is a legtimate method. This man is supposed to be one of Mormonism's foremost thinkers. What a laugh! Is this all they have. His answers are insipid and anaemic. How can he hope to be taken seriously. Wotherspoon, panders and offers no challenge to Peterson. It's sickening and painful to watch. I thought he was better. Is Mormonstories losing it?
