Tosh! Viet scripts are based on Latin, especially Portuguese language. Why? Because Portuguese priests came to Viet since the XV-XVI century. They were warmly welcomed by the native Viet. At the time Viet already had a distinct writing system based on Chinese language due to the Chinese domination, but Viet had a strong feeling about nationalism, so later Portuguese priests and native Viet together create modern Viet scripts. There's nothing to do with French language here.
