I don'y see why the U.S. government would bail out G.M. just because the are hopeless at running a company... the Toyota and Honda factories here are in good enough shape to not be on their knees begging for cash. The exterior design isn't finished, the battery doesn't exist nor do they have a supplyer, the 1.4L engine will be produced in a new factory that hasn't even broken ground yet! Lead times for new vehicles are at least 5 years once a design is finished.

The factory that manufactures the batteries has a serious pollution problem. Even though the Prius claims to pollute less, but that isn't the truth. It also takes more energy to build a Prius than it does to build a Hummer. Isn't the Prius supposed to better for the enviornment than a bid old V8 Hummer??? Guess not. It's built using slave labor and there was even a case were a worker was over worked to death because of the Prius!!

I know this is old, but that "research" is old, and was done out of hate for hybrids. Another study was done and it is NOT highly polluting to build a prius....plus any polluting effects from the build is "reveresed" by 20,000kms.

The only reason why gas prices are so high is because of India, Japan, and China. But its also our fault because we outsource jobs here to over there so more people there now have money thus more demand for fuel thus all of us paying the price and our economy suffers. Also studys show the batteries used in all hybrids not just pruis do just as much damage to the environment as a normal car would plus it cost anywhere for $1000 to $8000 to replace the battier so you don't really save anything!

There isn´t enough diesel around to keep all the continents running their cars on diesel. The EU already has to import increasing amounts of Diesel from other refineries around the world. Also Diesel engines are about 50kg heavier than regular engines. Filtering is expensive. The emissions are horrible to our cities. We need to look at all possibilities.

Diesel has it´s advantages on the highway, hybrids in city and overland roads. So a comparison should be based on where you drive mostly. Another reason for diesel´s efficiency is that it´s denser and heavier - therefore it produces more CO2 (not to mention all the other pollutants diesel produces) per gallon burnt.
