  • the best shit you can make in the studio is when its on the fly !!

  • Kwame the rhythm dat was the shit????

  • Where's the Polka Dots??????

  • I used to have all Kwame's albums. He had (and still have) a unique style, which I admire and wasn't afraid to be different. Matter of fact, I'ma go to Amazon.com and order his CD's right now.

  • @baytagoodah great comment..I agree

  • @baytagoodah Very well said.

  • kwame was the boy i miss when rap was like that!!

  • my name is kwame omg i feel lovee ahahhaha :)

  • Thanks Dnice

  • Kwame still looks good as hell!! He could get it!!

  • Dust off 'dem cassettes! Those times were that SHIT!! West Coast-East Coast; that didnt mean SHIT! It was ALLLLL good in my hood - WILMAS, CALIFA! PEACE.

  • kwame is the galiano of his era. he made a huge influence on me when I was in junior high. The first time I french kissed a girl in JR high. Her name was claudia and this girl Alicia Jackson was daring me to kiss her. she had the raddest titts All I remember was being really nervous and walking home after that and stumbled across these thrown out records in the alley. There was King T "act a fool" and kwame "Ownlee Eue" I was hooked after that. Kwame was so underated IMO.

  • @SynthHappens That was a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing it. :-)

  • @Kamaria7

I was so nervous. I was this white kid into heavy metal and not to turn this into some jungle fever bullshit. I was just this kid that wore a rayon and skated to school and the sisters thought I was cute. I dont care if you're black or white.. as long as the coochie's tight and the mood is right. I'll never put up a fight.

<3. when i got into highschool it wasn't as innocent and became all clicky and bullshit. Alicia ended up joining crips and wore blue and got shot in the ass.

  • that girl was so rad when we were young and then highschool changed all that. Claudia ended up going to a different school and Alicia ran with the wrong crowd. I just wish we were all afterschool in JR high and Alicia was double daring me to make out with claudia. that was the good peer pressure. that changed my life. Kwame I make it to heaven to tell you this story some day. I hope Alicia and Claudia are okay. love you both.

  • I used to drool over that dude... lol!!!

  • Sleep if you want. Kwame really wasn't on my radar back in the day. He's MASHIN' tracks now! He's more behind the scenes. and you have head of Kwame if you listen to Notorious B.I.G.

"You're played out like Kwame and those fuckin' polka-dots" remember? #Damn Y'all new!

  • Quis the great cause you a corny nigga

  • @QuisTheGreat

How about because U a corny ass, ignorant nigga..

  • Kwame was not a lyricist; he was a FAD! But I must must admit, we all liked The Rythm and he made his mark in hip hop history. I remember the polka dots and patent leather shoes were everywhere, and the blond streaks. Fun times.

  • Kwame was not a lyricist; he was a FAD! But I must must admit, we all liked The Rythm and he made his mark in hip hop history. I remember the poka dots and patent leather shoes were everywhere, and the blond streaks. Fun times.

  • This dude had style, pizzaz and flavor....I loved him...everyday after school...BET and MTV and KWAME and the POLKA DOTS

  • Back in the day the worst rapper's name was Kwame! Sorry

  • Cats got it too easy these days. They download a little software, record a song, throw it on YouTube and you got another Soldier Boy. I tried getting into the game back in the 90's and while we got close, it was no cigar. The shit we had to do and the money we spent was something that cats these days will never have to struggle with again.

  • Love it!

  • i lOVE KWAME!!!! IM HAVEN MY 21ST BDAY PARTY liKE HiS "YU GOTZ 2 GET DOWN" VIDEO !!!

  • man i miss the 80's

  • I remember when Biggie dissed him when he said something like you corny like Kwame in them polka dots..

  • Yo, I remember doing the "runnin-man" in my mom's living room in Queens to this man, Kwamé, the man who made pockadots fre$h.

  • Kwame was and still is Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • I just saw Kwame @ The Trocodero, man his show was great! He was the opening act for Nice and Smooth and EPMD. Very good stage show!

  • Dope...people thought Kwame was ""light" back in the day, but the dude had skills man..and still produces great music today! Nice vid!

  • When biggie spit that line about him, he actually got more famous.

  • royce 5 9?

  • Kwame is one of the writer's of Bell Biv DeVoe's Poison.

  • pleez slap on cut going Kwame 1989 junior year at Grant Highschool

  • back in the days you actually had to rap! Rappers in the XXIst century are dumb!

  • hahahahahaha

my name is kwame to lol

  • The polka-dots fucked his career up! he was nice as an M.C. He's a great producer too!!

  • are u from gh i mean ghana

  • Kwame....A Legend...nuff said

  • Comment removed

  • Damn. Yet another funky favorite of mine that the late Paul C. (RIP) had his hand in. That dude is like the Da Vinci of Golden era hip hop. Google him. The best producer you've never heard of.

  • I always questioned if Kwame wrote "The Rhythm" himself or if Kane wrote the lyrics for him. Because the lyrics in that song was not typical of Kwame's other songs and sounded a lot like Kane's writing at that time. Kwame was a below average emcee, but the lyrics on " The Rhythm" was fire. I guess I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

  • He still makes reak hot tracks

  • Get the pump shotty, make you look like Kwane (CRU song), BIG made a song too where he referenced him, everytime I think of Kwame I think of those lyrics right there. Kwame was dope though, f the hate or the poka dots disses, he was a good rapper! Kwame was that dude.

  • im named after him thats some bull shit

  • is he from ny, i thought e was from philly

  • Kwame used to stay around the corner from me back in the days with his grandma, Quenns representing!

  • and dis is da dude im named afta

  • KWAMEEEEEEEEE

  • Kwame!! Yo big fan!! Hai Love is my favorite!!!!

  • Great story!!! He wanted it!!

  • Pure innovation....Go...Kwame...(You and dose poka dotz...)...:)

  • yo the Rhythm is a CLASSIC hip hop track!! and video was dope niggas all in they polka dot suits and shit..

  • Kwame made hip hop fun back in the days, damn I miss those days.

  • He was DOPE!! It's funny that he and Vin Diesel are cousins....Vin was even dancing in one of his videos.

  • i am suprise he ain't wearing those damn poker dots

  • yea 1212 studios...

    R.I.P Paul C...

  • Respect

  • I knew Hurby Luv Bug didn't make the beats for the majority of Kwame's first album...they had to put "produced by Hurby..." on it 'cuz dude was like mad young at the time, 'n if it was put out there that he wrote 'n produced his own album at like 16, it coulda changed alotta 'bout the game as we kno' it!!!

  • This is a GREAT story...love Kwamé...and you can see he's a true person and hard worker with this story. Thanks for sharing it!!!

  • power to you

when you get time subscribe to my channel if you like it & comment your favorite video,I'd appreciate it very much

  • aight

  • people laughed back in the days, and they laugh now when i mention it, but kwame is one of my favorite rappers of all time. seriously. got every album. still bumps the shit out of em to this day. i can damn near recite the first 2 albums acapella., skits and all. dope storyteller. they laugh at that too, but your stories don't have to be about the street. thanks kwam!!!

  • I agree...I'll always love Kwamé. Hip-hop was fun back then!

  • @bzrwon Its more then a rapper, he understands and feels the beat like his blood moving into his veins, its a musician that can rap. Listen to him ! He speaks about James Browns and Funky Drummer ! dude ! that is more then a rapper man... he knows what real music is !!!!!

  • @bzrwon i agree 100%

  • @bzrwon ha ha.. i like ur comment.. that some hophop shit right there! respect!

  • @bzrwon I have never been laughed at when playing Kwame - also and mostly = the whole interview was about the making of 6 of the 8 tracks on the record...you should check your listening / interpreting -- P.S. - so glad for the film makers to have the access to these great stories - more documents!

  • @clumsiii uuuuuuh, what the hell are you talking about? i've read your reply about 15 times, and i cant make no sense of it. why do i have to check my "listening/interpreting"?

  • @bzrwon I always remember his crazy-ass hair. He hardly looks like he's aged though.

  • @bzrwon They can laugh all they want. He was nice then and a lot of people don't even know he make a lot of those beats in the industry now like We on Fire by Loyd Banks. He still making paper.

  • @bzrwon yo lfie is played out like kwame and them phuckin polka dots

  • @bzrwon I'd way rather play some old school Kwame jams all day long, than play this junk crap hip hop they're playin' today!

  • Some of yall betta hope U Live long enough to be called OLD one-Day. If It wasn't for them, their would be no BIGGIE TUPAC or NOBODY Else for that matter. You young niggas need ta have some kinda respect, cuzz you gonna need it ONE-DAY fa sho.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you got that right tell em

  • @mrdough32 now thats true

  • biggie ended this niggas career

  • and the people who liked kwame COULDNT be turned off by biggie. i liked big. LOVED his 1st album. but big was talking about one side of my life, what i was trying to get away from. kwame was talking about the other side of my life. the good shit. he had a good line about kwam, but big has lemmings dedicated. kwam has REAL die hard fans for real, and for a real reason.

  • I remember back in '90 Kwame' had everybody rockin' the streak in their hair and those damn polka dots. Say what you will about him, anytime you can start a ridiculous trend, you doing somethin'. right.

  • He TALKS IN STEREO(BIG MOUTH) BUT the TRUTH IS IN MONO....boreing

  • funny how all these old school guys try to maintain, but once they start talking about shit they get all animated-- lol. great sh*t!!!

  • dang... new york back in the 80s. no better. with all the rough times we went through... MAN THE MUSIC! the music made up for that

  • damn he queens on 165th, the coliseum lmao

  • He's a successful producer, 20 years later . . . .smell that!

  • The years have been good to Kwame. He doesn't look broke down like alot of cats and it's good to see he wasn't in jail and is still doing well. Big ups to him and bless God for having a good example out there for these cats that think street cred comes from negativity

  • He's still a cutie!!

  • Maybe if you was not so honest I could hear the rhythm with the video. If you try and play the song then all you get is the video. Lucky for me I have the song on my pc so I just have to sync it up.

  • look at my cousin doin his thing im poud of you

  • Great story...love the days of THE HUNGRY MC.

6 out of 8 songs in one night that ended up in his debut album? Dude GOT IT IN !

The TuPac Kwame work ethic...that's it.

Get in there and WORK. Turn that cell phone OFF don't TWEET or TWITT and tell them cute girls you'll see them later.

    You got WORK TO DO.

  • seriously my man u should give Jay Z some shine in this list I know he's made some commercial bullshit but he has made classics

  • in due time love. for now it's all about the legends

  • True he has alot of talent and has been around awhile, I just grew up being a fan of Nas and believed you either liked Nas or Jay z but not both. I guess since they squashed their beef I should give more respect for him. Here's another list then:Jay z, Rakim, Mos Def, Nice and Smooth, Phife Dawg, Dead prez, OC, Kurupt, Onyx, Big Pun, Common, Heavy D, LL Cool J, Mc Shan, Juice Crew, Big Daddy Kane, Notorious BIG, and i'll stop for now.

  • Dead Prez, Mos Def..........

  • is this vin diesels cousin?i heard he had a cousin named kwame that is a rapper

  • Dope. You see what people can do when they have little resources and talent? It takes people thousands of dollars to record an album usually.

  • yep

  • Kwame rockin the polka dots!!!!! Dj Cas. Lawrence, Kansas

  • Kwame was so DOPE!!!!

  • I love this.

  • he still look the same

  • LOVE THIS! We just posted another video in our Kwame, the music man series. Come check it out. Good job, D! You can tell you're a photographer too, just looking at the framing and lighting.

  • I saw Kwame perform at one of the night-spots here in Philly in 2007. Although I saw him nearly 20 years after his popularity had worn off, he still put on a dope show. No matter how old they are, true MC's never forget how to perform and "move the crowd."

  • KWAME IS THE SHITTT

  • He's STILL one of my Favorites. I met him in the street in NYC 10 yrs ago!!! Kwame was great!!!

  • **Sigh....I love that man. He is a genius. I've been a DIE HARD fan since I saw his first video "--- - It's it's tha man we all know and love"...I was mesmerized. I'm so glad he still has a presence on the scene.

  • I doubt he made 6 beats and 6 songs in 8 hours, good story though...

  • you don't know Kwame..they don't call hm the boy genius for nothing!lol

and back then you didn't need to do a whole lot of fancy shit to make a dope cut.that's what wrong with hip hop today they tryin to hard instead of being natural.

  • i dont,rakim made a album in a week

  • my friend has a kwame beat

  • Another great episode. The filming always looks so great.

  • another great story - thx d-nice!

    Keep teachin'

  • wow. great story!!! use back in high schoold to love "only u"

  • Good shit. I met Kwame before he really blew up once at a black expo. I didn't know who he was till a couple of girls came up and asked for autographs. Dude was cool, so cool I thought he was in character!
