Seriously study what's happening here, you have a very "clear and present danger/mr and mrs smith" conception of us. Study how in reality the politics here are, where Uribe is very popular for his actions against FARC terrorists.
Yes say no to the free trade with Colombia to let the whole world to know how bad friend USA is with countries that shows frienship. The propaganda againt Uribe is created by the leftist.
Why support new free trade deals when the current ones have been proven to fail? We got roughly the same amount of people from Mexico sneaking across the border than before NAFTA. If McCain is going to support more failed free trade deals he may as well drop out of the race right now. He's selling dog shit and calling it ice cream.
They're defending NAFTA regardless of what we say or think. Bullshit, we lost our voice long ago. We'd trade with a corrupt government like Columbia's the same as China, and the same thing will happen; more outsourcing and cheap labor for expensive crap.
Hey, how about you guys stop outsourcing and taking our jobs, then there will be less welfare? You know, the welfare you guys claim to hate
omg, enough with this utter crap about trade unionist. its bullshit and lies. They killer the farc leader because farc is a terrorist guerrila group. Imagine if alqaeda was stationed inside the us and kidnapped and attacked constantly, how can it be that anybody can be sympathetic towards the farc.
The enemy of the American Peoples Enemy within is not my friend, as in FARC is not my friend.
Al Al Qaeda is fictional mandraque90, as there is no such organisational structure unless you count the control structures from the USA Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia.. By control structures I mean CIA, ISI,....
The documentary "The Power of Nightmares" is a good start in understanding this. So don't believe me do your own research.
We are giving Mexico $1.5 BILLION to build up their police force, allegedly to fight the war on drugs.
Why don't we just keep our own money, and police our own border????? You hit the nail on the head when you said "militarization." That is exactly what is going on.
why do we feel that we have all of this money to just throw around when we have our own economic problems? We need to stop being the welfare state of the world. Everyone just wants to leech off us.
It imposes restrictions on trade and American sovereignty; truly "free" trade needs no trade agreements. Read Ron Paul's book, "The Revolution: A Manifesto." You may learn a thing or two.
What restrictions does it place? It simply allows goods to cross countries' borders WITHOUT any restrictions. And free trade does need agreements so that it can be enforced - you need to have contracts to enforce anything, which is why "peace treaties" are written, not phoned in, my friend.
Nearly 100% of economists agree that free trade is a good thing, and Clinton was also smart enough to recognize that. It's a pity the Dems have become so protectionist.
Clinton fucked the American worker big time. The textile mills are gone, steel, automobile, electronics, even the Maytag washer factory closed. We don't make anything anymore. This was all about busting unions, which had fought long and hard for better pay, medical and dental insurance for families, and better working conditions. Everything you buy is now imported from another country, and no, 100% economists do not agree. Anyone with a brain knows that no jobs = bad for economy.
Who cares if the textile mills are gone? We've moved on to providing other countries with better products and services like software and financial services which have larger margins than Maytag washers. It's NOT about busting unions, but about moving to using labor and capital more efficiently.
Say that to someone who's lost their job making bras and underwear after 25 years, living in the south where jobs are scarce, who's spouse is terminally ill, who still needs the money. It happened to my aunt. Any why did my last pair of underwear come from Israel? Those people in SC would love to have their jobs back.

Starcatcher the fact you want to see a government murder it's own citizens that lawfully seek to better the working conditions of it's people proves you're just as bad as these scumbag communists you speak of.
You have far more in common with Stalin and Mao than you do with Jefferson and Franklin. You're a traitor to your own people. Real Americans rightfully spit on what you stand for.
You can than the Federal Government and Federal Reserve Bank for those.
Though it seems like all anyone whats to do is blame someone else, bail people out with tax payer money and give the government more power to run shit into the ground.
We just may learn our lesson soon....on second thought, maybe not.
We do not have free trade or a free market in the US, everything is controled.
Weither is the vaule of our dollar and interest rates by the FED or how, when ,where and with who companies can do business by the FTC, commerce dept, or even international groups like the UN, WTO or the world bank.
Advocates of free market economy support the freedom of the individual very strongly - especially the freedom of the wealthy to exploit the poor and unfortunate.
McSame just wants to finish the job that fucking dictator Bush started! I wish there was a hell they could all burn in!
Bush/Cheney and all their Republican henchmen have to stand trial for WAR CRIMES and TREASON, committed against the American people and against humanity!
If I had to choose between what your economic policies via the IMF and World Bank has done to my country (and the rest of Africa) and living in Cuba... I don't have to tell you what I'd choose, now would I. Cuba is not a model country, but it is far better than a country four/five times as rich (GDP per capita) with the one of the highest crime rates in the world and 50% poverty. Check out South Africa, it's on the brink of disaster, thanks to your economic policies: The Washington Consensus!
Please do! Review all trade and travel agreements with all other countries. Isolate yourselves, the world would be so much better off! WE DON'T NEED YOU.
I realise that you can't force an ideology down someone's throat, because when things go wrong they'll turn on you: e.g. Iraq and Afghanistan. I condemn ALL vile acts committed by all aggressors. So that includes what the Taliban, Saddam Hussein, dictators like Ethiopia's, Eq. Guinea's, and Gabon's presidents (which YOUR government supports), Somalian warlords (which YOUR govn't supports) do/did.
Those 50 people that were found in a mass grave, yeah, that's what Sadaam did after the people of Samarra almost took him out.
Again your a genius, light infantry means we ealk around on foot, no humvees, no tanks, no burger king.
I may not know exactly what a muslim is and what your so afraid of. But I have met Iraqis and they were Muslims. I gave them respect, thats called proffesionalism. They treated us with respect, thats called mutual respect.
The guy is total absolute scum of the earth to say the least as you should be able to see from his BS spewed all over the boards all day long talking shit about socialism. When obviously he's on government assistance which is socialism which he badgers all day long.
He believes that it's great that thousands of Labor Leaders have been murdered by the Para Military Colombian Government Forces that the USA's Taxes funds and supports and you expect me to respect this scumbag's opinions and views?
human rights? murders of union leaders?? who gives a shit. these are rags to cover the real motives when needed by US-establishment. if puppets like in greater middle east toe-up in line for US-war lords, they are allies even if these tyrents go on murdering spree. israel is another example. US herself has occupied two soverign countries DIRECTLY based upon lies and millions of ppl have been killed and the count continues.
McCain were really a maverick, he wouldn't just support absolute free trade with these shitty agreements. The least he would do is ask for worker safety protections, environmental protections, etc. in those countries we trade with where jobs are outsourced. Every one of these agreements is WRITTEN UP by corporate leaders who advise their Republican friends in Washington on what to put and keep out of the agreements. No one asks laborers about what they want in a FTA.
These cock sucker spends billions on fighting crime. When they can use that money to more programs and improve peoples living conditions. How can the U.S. deny Uriba who violates Human Rights when the U.S. does the same thing. Take that COCK out your mouth Felipe Calderon and Uriba!
I used to like Real news but it seems as if they give ecuador's president a complete pass especially when he has ties with the FARC a true terrorist group. Colombia has legitimate national security issues with Chavez and ecuador it's not like the US situation with Iraq. People in Colombia love Uribe he has done more to help legitimize its politics and crack down on FARC.
How does Colombia have a 'legitimate' national security issue with Ecuador and Venezuela? It's not like they are trying to build a missile shield on Colombia's border! Some Americans... you really need to get REAL news instead of the shit you get in the good 'ol U.S. of A. The rest of us ain't getting the picture you described here. We get a VARIETY of perspectives from ALL over the world.
For the most part I do like REAL News but I felt a slight bias here.
As for Colombia, I think I would know a little more about it than you since i immigrated from there 7 months ago. So don't tell me I don't get enough perspective. If Real News were fairer with Uribe they would cover the Betancourt liberation.
why do people always blame Venezuela or Ecuador for Colombias problems?Colombia is the one with 3+ million refugees, one of the largest displaced populations in the world. You dont see Venezuelans fleeing en masse because of terror and violence. Its Colombia that is destabilizing the region with its 40+ year old civil war, the problem just spills into other countrys borders. And there has never been proof that Chavez/Correa are aiding the FARC.thats just speculation treated as fact by the ignorant
Well the people are displaced because of the FARC. The FARC IS being funded by Correa and Chavez so yes they do play a big role. And you are completely wrong. When they killed the FARC commander they found the laptop that had documents showing a clear connection so you are the ignorant one.
FARC controls less than 35% of the country and they live deep in the jungle regions, far removed from populated urban areas. people are fleeing because of extreme poverty, crime, and violence committed by the drug mafias and paramilitary death squads.. Colombia is a FAILED STATE because of bad social policy, not because of some rebels fighting in the mountains.
"There is no evidence linking Venezuela to terrorist groups, the head of the Organization of American States on Thursday told US lawmakers looking into last month's Colombia-Ecuador border crisis." -AFP
no one outside of Colombia in Latin America believes in the Magic Laptop nonsense. you are so behind the curve on that one it's not even funny.
wow you really want to infound anti uribe and pro chavez fidel correa policy here dont you?, look at you quantity of comments, which he hear from venezuela and ecuador constantly
The drug mafias and the FARC are in cahoots, of course they are responsible for the displacements. they are far removed from populated areas but they are nomadic they go from small coffee villages and kick them out of their farms. The FARC is responsible for the fleeing more so then the paramilitary squads. The FARC is the largest guerrilla group in colombia.
sure colombia does have bad social policy but that could also be attributed to the politicians who have connections with the FARC.
actually most of the killings are committed by the paramilitaries linked to Colombian intelligence services and the military as this document shows: hrw(dot)org/reports/2000/colombia
This is misleading because there are several paramilitary groups. The para militaries were formed by corporations to counter the FARC, a long time ago now of course they only protect the drug barons, so they are not in one united cause like the FARC is. You're missing the point though Uribe has done a lot to counter the violence from the FARC (who nobody in Colombia supports by the way) Uribe has helped Colombia more than any other president has.
You're going to tell me that Uribe hasn't helped colombia then? What exactly am I wrong about? I lived in the freaking country, many time while I was taking road trips from Medellin to Sincelejo the FARC was always there to extort people. With Uribe that has changed drastically and now the FARC is almost dead.
reading once again I can see where you are coming from.. I'm sorry I think I must of misread your comment made 5 hours ago... althoe I don't think its a failed state
I don't disagree that it is a failed state because of bad social policy but FARC and other guerrilla groups a long with drug mafias contribute immensely to the problem. Like Betancourt said the FARC and other guerrilla groups are the symptom of the corruption. You can't deny though that they no longer have any support whatsoever and Uribe has helped colombia immensely, evidenced by his massive approval ratings.
Uribe has his hands soaked in the blood of innocents. it matters little what approval ratings he has, he's still a criminal, a liar, and paraco fascist who runs a narco-mafia state at the behest of the Colombian oligarchy.
if you think you know so much about Colombia, try talking to the journalists, unionists, and human rights activist who live in constant fear in that country. i can give you a hint they are not afraid of being killed so much by lefwing guerrillas as they are by the paras and the Colombian military.
Military, with "operation jaque" have a high percent of aproval, i can safely say almost no one is afraid of been killed by the military, becuase people believe in the army now that is much more less corrupt than years ago. what you say is bullshit, people know how paras are very little compared to what they were before, and people are mostly against FARC (you can see the multiple manifestations that have been done, were one against farc got a million people participating)
Indigenous and afro colombians or anyone who speaks against Uribe live in fear of the military and paramilitary. Wealthy people who live comfortably in Colombia live in fear of the FARC. This means everyone in Colombia lives in fear for one reason or another.
ive been to the countryside, and worked there in contact with everything. Paramilitary dont exist anymore, remants are what you call criminals 'cause they dont got any political or ideological goal and are much less than what they were. That thing about speaking against uribe is BULLSHIT tons and tons speak shit of him, look for gustavo petro, carlos lozano, wilson borja..... the freakin list goes on.
Seriously, that "everyone in colombia lives in fear" is so bullshit i dont know what to say.
I have lived in Colombia for 2 yrs, My husband is Colombian from a poor family in Santa Marta, His father was murdered when he was 5 and two of his sisters and a brother were also muredered. Many Colombians in Australia are here as Refugees because of fear and violence. Why are they in Australia for secuirity? Because Mr Uribe has made Colombia impossible to live in for many people.
There's no doubt that we were in a bad situation; your husband's family members were killed WHEN "Mr." Uribe wasn't president. And many of those refugees came from the time of Pastrana's "peace process", when FARC used their supposed "negotiating" zone (the DMZ) to kidnap and terrorize even more. What you said came from before "Mr. Uribe"
His father and one od his sisters were murdered before Uribe, then one sister and one brother killed recently, during Uribe. Colombia has always had problems and corruption because of colonialism and then after inequality and racism. Under Uribe, the elite are more protected and they feel more security and safety but peasants and disadvantaged people in Colombia are vunerable.
I do not have that data. It was hard enough for Ramon to talk about the death of people he loves. All I know that he was 5 when his father was killed and that one of his brothers and a sister were killed just before I had met him. When somone tells you my father died, you generally don't ask them for data unless you are mafia or police.
well, i know it must be hard. But, in experience, no one in this world is a charity sister: CUT and FECODE and other semi "syndicalist" organizations got a list with murdered syndicalists, supposedly for working and demanding better conditions, but later it got to where they killed themselves, or it was passionate crimes(jelousy, some stole another one's girlfriend). And even so, in one of the last raids to a FARC camp....a "syndicalist" was there... now, im not saying its your husbands case but
now, in no way going to pressure to do that, i have friend that's got almost the same story, and it is sad. However, what i ask is that do not generalize so easily: your husband's case may be, but from there to going and saying "everyone in colombia lives in fear" well, its far off.
Well maybe not everyone lives in fear, but majority do. Just like not everyone in United states wanted war with Iraq, nut majority of them do because they have been brainwashed. Just because you are living the good life, dosn't mean everyone else is
heh, good life?...i'll admit im not living under a bridge, but i don't have "the good life" (which is more possible i think in australia for that matter). I've lived in all Colombia, and I even was in san agustín when the DMZ time: I've seen it, ive talked and lived with different people.
Now FARC are relegated to Cauca, very little huila, and borders with ecuador and venezuela (guess why?). And youre saying that, well then not all, but THE MAJORITY live in FEAR?
If you have spoken to so many different people as you say, you would have definantly met some displaced people by paramilitary. It is quite impossible not to.
You said that para did not exist anymore??? Now you are saying they do and are displacing people. So are these people you have met not afraid of Paramilitary? Were they happy to be displaced? And if you are going to tell me they were paid to get off, where do they live now? In a clean apartment, with a job, food and equal rights as you have? Do you get my point now??? If they were paid to get off, why are they living in slums, jobless and struggling to survive and scared to speak up???
Australia is getting more immigratin from Colombia now more than ever. Even though they love and miss Colombia forits beauty and culture, they have no opportunity and are constantly in fear of defending themselves in unions.
Look up the data yourself. There is plenty of data on Colombian Immigrants to Australia. As for me I have lived here all my life and 10 years ago it was rare to meet a Colombian here. They are the new immigrants along with other Latin American countries. But as you know Colombians have a hard time entering any country, unless they are rich or refugees.
many of them just go looking for oportunities. We are a developing country, and of course, there's poverty, so people go looking for dreams and oportunities somewhere else. And just cause you didnt meet any colombians before doesnt make it the truth that there are less or more...I assure you there were more before, either when narcotraffic was rampant in the 80's or FARC was rampant in 90's/00's,so just cause you see more now, hell that could mean that now they just dont go to usa with recession.
I did meet Colombians before, but now there are many. However, there have always been many Brazilans and Chileans here. The Colombian people I have met and made friends with have come from refugee status, probably I meet them becaue like my husband they had a hard life in Colombia and you tend to meet and speak with people who have similar life experiences with.
The student come from exremely wealthy families and either they are from spannish decent and money has been passed on from colonial times or they did something very illegal in their Colombia to get rich. Or in my case I brought my husband here in 2008.
You cannot enter Australia if you have been envolved with FARC and definantly if you have a criminal record. The only Colombians, other than refugees here are from elite backgrounds that have either profited from the underprivaleged or are envolved in narcotrafficking but are protected by the government and were able to get a passport in the first place.
In the last couple of years australia has been more "notable" and many times people look for oportunities in other countries. We are a developing country, so of course there's poverty. I don't believe every single colombian you've seen is a refugee, running from "pillage and burning". I can also say there were a lot more refugees before, either in narcotraffic rampant 80's or FARC/paramilitaries violence 90's/00's. It's a fact that even people that don't like Uribe accept: we're better now.
There are many students coming from Colombia, but many have more opportunity than most Austalians do as they do not have to work to support themselves here, and are attendng University's to learn english etc.
Majority of Colombians struggle to put a hot meal on the table every day, how do you think they have money to travel all the way to Australia???? And how is there passport accepted by the Uribe regime???Is't he supposed to be having a war on drugs and terror (like Mr Bush did), or is he letting his own criminals pass
Colombia is beautiful and everyone always carries a smile, but behind the smiles of the people is pain, inequality, discplacement, government and corporate terror e.g. coca cola, and Anglo Gold Ashanti!! Also the Farc have had their corruption within the group. How can you say that there is no FEAR??
meh?, again, you're generalizing: how the ***** do you know that "behind their smiles" is that?......and this goverment terror....WHAT goverment terror. You see a pinochet? a videla? a stroessner? a geisel? I don't see the ICC going after him, or direct accusations from a party that isn't tainted with political ends. And damn, if you started with coca-cola, well what then, macdonalds? Burger king? "imperialism"? go call marx
I guess so! Colombians do struggle and so does the rest of the world. There is no perfect country and no perfect system anywhere in the world and in Latin America there is no equality. Everyone has a story to tell and their stories should be heard, not suppressed. You suppor Uribe and many don't. I do not support my prime minister, but many Australians do, does that mean I do not count and do not have a say??
There is a reason why people ar e discplaced, they don'y displace themselves. They are rich on their lands and poor when they have to move to citys and live without natural resources, education and community support.
Colombia has the second highest amount of displaced people in the world after Sudan and Paramilitary are the ones who escort them of their land. Many people have told their stories an continue to tell the truth even though it is dangerous for them to speak out. If you choose to ignore this, then maybe its for you own benefit or you would like to beleive that people displace themselves and enjoy living in poverty.
You are a fucking idiot. And a missinformed one at that. check statistics before you open your dumb ass mouth again, look at how uribe has improved the safety record of union members and leaders. Also look at the track record in the OAS with human rights.
more trade unionists killed in the first eight months of this year than in all of 2007 (the highest rate of killings of trade unionists in the world), plus a mountain of scandals surrounding him that involve investment scams, extrajudicial killings by the military and narco-corruption at every level of government. yea, what a great guy. lol, Mr Death Squad President's days are numbered.
suuure that's why it shows how is going down in popularity being an elections year, and how the "statistics" are not given by the goverment, but by international "Gallup" firm of polls"
man just like chavez himself talking. Well, Approval ratings simply show something different, you know what that is? that in my country finally someone can stand straight against guerrillas, that constantly attack my people. With the last president we lended our hand at them (FARC) they spit at us by making the DMZ into a drug and extortion site. Uribe has been elected because he can fight guerrillas. If he was with oligarchy, he wouldnt have so much approval (IN FACT, academics ara against him)
I don't really care about democracy most people who vote are a bunch of lemmings anyway and i'm sure most people who claim to know so much about colombia (i.e. historywillabsolve) have never been to colombia and don't know a thing about it.
Thank you John McCain, once the pissons stop jerking each other off over who's a muslim terrorist and who is made up of tumors, the issues will decide this election.
The best example is oil. This is the LAST think corporation wants and by hook or by crook, they will fix markets just like they fix our votes.
It would not surprise me that the CFR funded the 'Greens' to preclude building of infrastructure that would give adequate competition and supplies of fuel.
(This and legislating CONTROL of markets, ie. MEDICAL monopolies, is how the 'free markets' work.)
some of you people should try following up on these reports by reading a column or two instead of asking so many stupid questions. there's only so much a 4 minute video can tell you.
Lindsay Graham and Joe Lieberman. Sounds about right! i would guess they have all gone through the Manchurian Candidate treatment about 50 times. Again... it just goes to prove my theory that "Bullshit likes a nice custom tailored suit" also my other theory. "Bullshit needs like minded friends". I could likely come up with some more "Bullshit Behaviorial Laws".
Here are some more theories of Bullshit Behavior: Bullshit likes 1.fan fare, 2.religion, 3. patriotism, 4. prizes, 5. money, 6. a private jet 7. giving awards for heroism, 8.receiving awards for heroism, 9. making up awards for heroism. 10. point a finger at "evil". 11. passing judgement or exercizing 'rightful class prejudice'. The list is getting kind of long. Bullshit loves George Bush. Pretty much whatever you see George Bush and these three stooges do and say is Bullshit.
man seriously wtf, im from colombia and a lot of what i read here about our country is shit. McCain were really a maverick, he wouldn't just support absolute free trade with these shitty agreements. The least he would do is ask for worker safety protections, environmental protections, etc. in those countries we trade with where jobs are outsourced.

As for Colombia, I think I would know a little more about it than you since i immigrated from there 7 months ago. So don't tell me I don't get enough perspective. If Real News were fairer with Uribe they would cover the Betancourt liberation.
ferrozm 3 years ago
why do people always blame Venezuela or Ecuador for Colombias problems?Colombia is the one with 3+ million refugees, one of the largest displaced populations in the world. You dont see Venezuelans fleeing en masse because of terror and violence. Its Colombia that is destabilizing the region with its 40+ year old civil war, the problem just spills into other countrys borders. And there has never been proof that Chavez/Correa are aiding the FARC.thats just speculation treated as fact by the ignorant
historywillabsolve 3 years ago 3
Well the people are displaced because of the FARC. The FARC IS being funded by Correa and Chavez so yes they do play a big role. And you are completely wrong. When they killed the FARC commander they found the laptop that had documents showing a clear connection so you are the ignorant one.
ferrozm 3 years ago
FARC controls less than 35% of the country and they live deep in the jungle regions, far removed from populated urban areas. people are fleeing because of extreme poverty, crime, and violence committed by the drug mafias and paramilitary death squads.. Colombia is a FAILED STATE because of bad social policy, not because of some rebels fighting in the mountains.

Jecht301010 3 years ago
The drug mafias and the FARC are in cahoots, of course they are responsible for the displacements. they are far removed from populated areas but they are nomadic they go from small coffee villages and kick them out of their farms. The FARC is responsible for the fleeing more so then the paramilitary squads. The FARC is the largest guerrilla group in colombia.
sure colombia does have bad social policy but that could also be attributed to the politicians who have connections with the FARC.
ferrozm 3 years ago
actually most of the killings are committed by the paramilitaries linked to Colombian intelligence services and the military as this document shows: hrw(dot)org/reports/2000/colombia
this is FACT, not my opinion.
historywillabsolve 3 years ago
This is misleading because there are several paramilitary groups. The para militaries were formed by corporations to counter the FARC, a long time ago now of course they only protect the drug barons, so they are not in one united cause like the FARC is. You're missing the point though Uribe has done a lot to counter the violence from the FARC (who nobody in Colombia supports by the way) Uribe has helped Colombia more than any other president has.

I don't disagree that it is a failed state because of bad social policy but FARC and other guerrilla groups a long with drug mafias contribute immensely to the problem. Like Betancourt said the FARC and other guerrilla groups are the symptom of the corruption. You can't deny though that they no longer have any support whatsoever and Uribe has helped colombia immensely, evidenced by his massive approval ratings.
ferrozm 3 years ago
Uribe has his hands soaked in the blood of innocents. it matters little what approval ratings he has, he's still a criminal, a liar, and paraco fascist who runs a narco-mafia state at the behest of the Colombian oligarchy.

if you think you know so much about Colombia, try talking to the journalists, unionists, and human rights activist who live in constant fear in that country. i can give you a hint they are not afraid of being killed so much by lefwing guerrillas as they are by the paras and the Colombian military.
historywillabsolve 3 years ago 2
Military, with "operation jaque" have a high percent of aproval, i can safely say almost no one is afraid of been killed by the military, becuase people believe in the army now that is much more less corrupt than years ago. what you say is bullshit, people know how paras are very little compared to what they were before, and people are mostly against FARC (you can see the multiple manifestations that have been done, were one against farc got a million people participating)
Jecht301010 3 years ago
Indigenous and afro colombians or anyone who speaks against Uribe live in fear of the military and paramilitary. Wealthy people who live comfortably in Colombia live in fear of the FARC. This means everyone in Colombia lives in fear for one reason or another.

Uribe"
Jecht301010 1 year ago
His father and one od his sisters were murdered before Uribe, then one sister and one brother killed recently, during Uribe. Colombia has always had problems and corruption because of colonialism and then after inequality and racism. Under Uribe, the elite are more protected and they feel more security and safety but peasants and disadvantaged people in Colombia are vunerable.

I do not have that data. It was hard enough for Ramon to talk about the death of people he loves. When somone tells you my father died, you generally don't ask them for data unless you are mafia or police.
camporomero 1 year ago
well, i know it must be hard. And even so, in one of the last raids to a FARC camp....a "syndicalist" was there... now, im not saying its your husbands case but
Jecht301010 1 year ago
now, in no way going to pressure to do that, i have friend that's got almost the same story, and it is sad. However, what i ask is that do not generalize so easily: your husband's case may be, but from there to going and saying "everyone in colombia lives in fear" well, its far off.
Jecht301010 1 year ago
Well maybe not everyone lives in fear, but majority do. Just like not everyone in United states wanted war with Iraq, nut majority of them do because they have been brainwashed. Just because you are living the good life, dosn't mean everyone else is
camporomero 1 year ago
heh, good life?...i'll admit im not living under a bridge, but i don't have "the good life" (which is more possible i think in australia for that matter).
Jecht301010 1 year ago

And if you are going to tell me they were paid to get off, where do they live now? In a clean apartment, with a job, food and equal rights as you have? Do you get my point now??? If they were paid to get off, why are they living in slums, jobless and struggling to survive and scared to speak up???

Look up the data yourself. There is plenty of data on Colombian Immigrants to Australia. As for me I have lived here all my life and 10 years ago it was rare to meet a Colombian here. They are the new immigrants along with other Latin American countries. But as you know Colombians have a hard time entering any country, unless they are rich or refugees.
camporomero 1 year ago
many of them just go looking for oportunities.
Jecht301010 1 year ago
I did meet Colombians before, but now there are many. However, there have always been many Brazilans and Chileans here. The Colombian people I have met and made friends with have come from refugee status, probably I meet them becaue like my husband they had a hard life in Colombia and you tend to meet and speak with people who have similar life experiences with.

You cannot enter Australia if you have been envolved with FARC and definantly if you have a criminal record. The only Colombians, other than refugees here are from elite backgrounds that have either profited from the underprivaleged or are envolved in narcotrafficking but are protected by the government and were able to get a passport in the first place.
camporomero 1 year ago
In the last couple of years australia has been more "notable" and many times people look for oportunities in other countries. We are a developing country, so of course there's poverty. I don't believe every single colombian you've seen is a refugee, running from "pillage and burning". I can also say there were a lot more refugees before, either in narcotraffic rampant 80's or FARC/paramilitaries violence 90's/00's. It's a fact that even people that don't like Uribe accept: we're better now.
Jecht301010 1 year ago

'Free trade' is the biggest myth in the US.
