  • I have a 5 speed 2002 honda civic ex and I want some extra power, What can I do to it other that add a turbo? I want enough power to beat a mustang gt if its possiable

    You can pray??...honestly, i wouldn't spend cash on performance parts for this motor...it's a little weak. your lucky if you see 140 hp from the 127 it comes with. You can make this car look SUPER good. just don't cheap out and get parts from ebay. SAVE money, and do it right. if you're stuck on the whole performance thing, save up for a crower camshaft, valves, valve springs, retainers... and a good TUNE.

    Don't play if you're not willing to pay. ;)

  • Also stock crank on 03 ex/lx can handle up to 200 hp. Replace that crank as well kiddies.

  • you guys are right about the k20. I looked at doing the swap in my car and to get it done right would run over $6000. Turbo can cost half that.

  • I cant stand it when people say " oh why not a k20 swap blah blah blah" Are you going to pay for it? Cause if not than dont talk shit. boosting is much cheaper than a swap and if built right you can get the same or MORE out of it. Keep it up man em2's!!!

    plus its more fun to work on a car thats a challenge then to just have it given to you.

  • d motors arent that great, i had an 03 lx for a year, great grocery getter. Then i traded for a 02 si hatch, and now, wow. do the smart thing and save some cash down the road, do a k swap, or just buy a car with one. and noone say oh yeah you didnt have an ex it didnt have vtec. err, vtec wont do shat to 115chp (probly 90whp)

  • Well I was happy with 280 HP to the wheels... The D took 132k of nasty abuse and then I finally lost a thrust washer in the bottom end. Now my car is K20A2 swapped but still has much less power then the turbo D. At least the K is legal tho.

  • As far as I know a k20 swap is MUCH more expensive then what I paid to do the turbo setup and on top of that I dont see any K20's making 280whp... So the D has a better price/performance ratio.

  • all g7 civic's are sedans. they make 2 door and 4 door models. i think by saying sedan you mean 4 door, the word sedan doesn't justify a 4 door. sedan just classifies a body structure, door/window frames.

  • So what's a coupe? my 03 civic is listed as a 2 door coupe. If it were a 4 door, it would be listed as a 4 door sedan.

    same goes for (older) cadillacs, the sedan de ville is a 4 door. While a coupe de ville is a 2 door.

  • Because I can actually take people in the back seat if needed. As far as Civics go, coupes and sedans have about the same uni-body rigidity and the coupes are more expensive to insure. So sedan FTW...

  • Plus or minus the additional 150-200 lbs for the doors, and added frame strength, with the same 1.7 SOHC engine (127 hp) = FTL. Combined with the fact they look more bulky and lack style = FTL. 03 Civic coupes have back seats by the way. Unless you're planning on a drive-by, or you're running from the cops, how is a 4 door a contender? A minivan is faster (i.e. has a bigger engine and more low end torque). Might as well get a 4 door 1.7 with an automatic so you lose another 30% horsepower.

  • Actually according to the Honda Service manual that I have in front of me they both weigh in at 2465 lbs in the LX,MT trim. So my PERSONAL choice is a sedan because its easier to live with every day, thats my point. Ooh and also im too tall to sit in the back seat of a coupe so there is another reason. seriously Im not into these online pissing contests. Everyone is allowed to have their own choice. I was just answering your why a sedan question.

  • Its oil vapor from the valve cover breather. I just let it vent into the atmosphere cause It doesnt hurt anything.

  • I dont know what affiliation you might have with Dezod but as of right now they have been completely worthless when it comes to correcting problems and they keep suggesting to do things that are completely unsafe for the engine... so I suggest to all who might want to boost thier civics to go with another kit cuase this one has been an $8K headake for me so far and im still not done yet...

  • The Dezod kit is the best one avalable for the 7thgen civic. The problem is that there are a lot of things on the car that need to be beefed up to handle the extra power. and DONT run a piggy back lol. I have no affiliation with Dezod but I really do like their turbo kit.

  • Hopefuly you can help me... I have the Dezod kit on my civic with the PCS piggyback kit... I just got some injectors that will let me start and drive the car.. but it is now surging at an idle... did this happen to you? Do you know how to fix it?

  • Piggy-Back fuel setups are not very good on these newer civics. Kpro is the best setup IMHO, That is why my car drives like stock.
