Chows are stubborn by nature but they are very sensitive and intelligent animals. A Chow knows his/her master but if the master could be a friend he/she would have to show and verify. Give him/her a hug and cuddle with him/her a little bit and the dog will listen to you. You shouldn't pull like that though. That could hurt the dog !
I got my pomeranian when he was already 7 months, i dont know why he did not like to walk on leash either,i had to take treats with me during the walks, everytume he was stopping id knee on th eground and offer the treat, praising him everytime he was moving and going a bit more far away everytime...it helped alot after a week, but he was still stoppping during the walk, i never knew why, then one day i took him out with my GSD to the beach, one hour walk, he didnt stop once!!! only at the end
I train my two chows and opposing to what people say they are both very intelligent. I thought them to sit in less than 10 repetitions (with tasty treats of course) and they're learning in a relative fast pace. Of course they aren't as fast learners as poodles but I'm pretty excited about training them. Plus they are so cute making tricks!!
I love the gentle way that you use as a technique of training your dog, the calm and sweet voice really helps the training procedure. Congratulations!
This chow is obvvious NOT happy - he doesn't know what you want from him and your commands make no sense. Try making friends with this dog first and then slowly introduce training - best for Chows is clicker training. They are much smarter that most dogs.
but because we were jogging and he has small legs so he got tired, but u can easily see when he is tired or when he is just being "stubborn"" i htink he just needed to be more dog :), now i can walk him alone, i stop a few times for let him smell the stuff and thats it! he was peeing every 2 seconds before i took him with the GSD, then he stopped of doing iit so often....he is a bit special xDD
have the leash so tense like this, wont work with this breeds, he does not trust, and u making him trust even less. if i am not wrong this is a strangler collar....wont work with a chow chow, believe me, the more harsh u are the worst it will go. same with nordic breeds, huskies etc...u cant use strangler collar on those, neither harness though. uve got to earn their respect and trust. Good luck
Brings back memories of my bitch...Chows are stubborn.
