  • ha, it's like Trey starts out his solo normal, but then at 3:11 remembers he is on tv and has a time limit. good stuff though.

  • Do I spy Blue Lou Marini from Blues Brothers on the Tenor Sax?

  • @Finstahy I just wondered that as well.

  • Used to be that real music like this was everywhere, it was a daily soundtrack. You didn't need to plug it in your ears to hear it.

  • NOBODY in that room wanted to be anywhere but there.

    Badass Mutha 4000!

  • I wish they had done Mound on tv, its short enough...sounds catchy at first glance and its classic phish weirdness and musical virtuosity

  • trey sounds like the same playin out that little vox. goes to show so much of your tone comes from your fingers

  • Phuck Yeah!

  • Did Trey arrange the horns?

  • the first Phish song i ever heard and still one of my all time favorites

  • fun song. i heard this was the encore from Hollywood Bowl Summer '11..

  • Dave Grippo on horns mmmm mmmmmmm thats a sweet sound.

  • i love the look on trey's face when the riff picks up into the 2nd verse. he just looks like he's grilling the shit out of someone like "lets fucking do this."

    shit owns. blonde doc ftw

  • For the old people, that is Blue Lou on sax from 70's SNL band and the Blues Brothers! This is probably the best TV performance by the band and it is fun to see how the other long time pro musicians get into it!

  • mikes tone is awesome here

  • Gordo @ 3:41-3:43

  • That is awesome, cant believe i have never seen before!

  • only phish can do this

  • im sure after so many appearances on letterman they grew a good relationship

  • 2:54 Air Gordon FTW

  • so sickk! Phishy phishy PHISH! Love them

  • love trey's look at 2.28. He's thinking, "Yup, this is just as sick as I thought it'd be."

  • rage side

  • Phuck! that was phunky!

  • Amazing letterman performance by the boys once more. I love that when they were on to promote "Hoist" they played chalkdust and when they're on to promote "A Live One" they play julius. they do what they want!

  • Sincerely,

    Trey

  • hey dont be afraid of your thoughts no matter how demented bro

  • Damn, is that Blue Lou?!

  • @Malzarin My god, have none of you seen the Blues Brothers!? Or 70's SNL!?

  • love the horns!

  • i love the fact that phish walks into that studio and just blows away 99.9% of all the previous musicians who've come before. Dave prolly doesnt realize it but u know the house band does.

  • there is one visit that Dave introduces them saying - you know the great ones because the play with the house band. Phish just started playing with the house band....I know for a fact that all the musicians in the band are STOKED to have Phish on

  • @humbabwe

dave does realize it... he's a phan from back in the day. tho his fave song is chalkdust. i'm just sayin.

  • @humbabwe Say what? ..Dave's a phan.

  • two more words....paul languedoc. Phish fucking rules. I hope Phish plays Jesus' re-entrance music...you know, like Guelah Papyrus! hahahahhahahahah

  • two words....Orange Julius.

  • Is the saxophonist in the foreground at 2:20 Blue Lou from the Blues Brothers Band?

  • trey using ac30 here?

this must have been before he settled on the deluxe reverb,

personally, i don't think his tone ever sounded better than when he used the boogie mark III with the mids bumped way up, that early 90's tone was so vocal strong and clear, he has yet to do better, imo.

  • ahahahahahahahah page :45

  • Comment removed

  • You don't seem many bands who show up and say, "Oh Great! A full horn section! And a sweet female vocalist, too. We've got just the song for you."

They Might Be Giants did it once. I havn't seen anyone else, though.

  • all i can say is =)

  • ...When your reaching just pushes it further away now...

  • Grippos in their

  • Besy 4 piece band ever, They can play anything. Challenge them.

  • That one saxophonist looks like Einstein.

    Rolling Stone Magazine

"Maybe we take another Hiatus, but as long as the four of us are still alive, on the earth, Phish would exist. Because that is what we are."
