  • really good job though

  • Ok so everybody knows, I'm the SECOND dislike! HA!

  • This is really, really amazing

  • I guess "easy" is relative. I landed on your vid looking for tutorials. You sound GREAT.

  • I gotta ask are you fretting the upper-strings as an anchor for vibrato and the melody is played entirely with the slide, or are you fretting and plucking them without the slide in some instances?

  • amazing

  • Is this improv? Regardless great job

  • who the F***K dind not like this ...

    What A Scyzo

  • very very good

  • very nice! I have been playing guitar for 30 years and just began slide.I love your playing.I am watching you and getting a ton of ideas. Thanks

  • Cool its got a bit of ol Rye Cooder in there and sounds good

  • u have tabs for that?? its sounds awesome!

  • @notna95 A flatpick. works pretty good for this style of music

  • lesson this please =)

  • thank you man!

  • It's an improvisation? Or did you have a tab of this great instrumental? (Or tab to play with bottleneck?) Thanks.

    Good playing!!!

  • good GOD you make that guitar wail

  • exellent

  • esta muy buena esa cancion!!!!

    eres bueno!!!

    suena muy bien!!!

  • Open D, It was awhile ago, tuning may have slipped, but it is open D.

  • really? it sounded a lot like Open G. but then again maybe I have my tunings confused, lol. I though DGDGBD was open G and DADF#AD was open D... but am I like, totally ass backward? haha

  • what's the tuning here?

  • Man, you're great, perfect playing, damn good feeling!

that's the nice thing in playing slide: you don't need expensive gear to sound well.

    congratulations man, keep sliding.

    cheers from Brazil.

  • DUDE LESSON THIS!

    Its ACE.

  • for a cheap guitar you get a great tone of it man. great job

  • Wow!!!

I just love this sound. I started playing guitar because of the sound of slide guitar, it just connects to my soul:)

I am a beginner guitar player (6 months) and i have watche hundreds of videos of slide guitar here on youtube but this is the ONE. I do want to ask a favour, if you could make an instuctional of how you play this it would make me so happy. I cant figure it out since i am a beginner and dont have the ear or experience to figure it out. So please teache me!

    Love your sound.

  • a word of advice from guitar player to guitar player the more you train your ear the better you'll get. i mean trying to learn songs by listening to them, but it is a lot faster to just watch videos i understand your pain (so to speak)

  • Very true. Things are a lot easier if you can replicate songs from the sound. Takes a little time and usually trial and error with "Nope, that's a little too high" or "Nope, too low" and changing it.

I personally get a lot more out of hearing it being played, watching hand movements and tabs. Tabs are faster for me than looking at where they are.

  • haha i love you dude ..its 5 am and i just bought a metal slide ...and i am desperately searching for ideas and tips and i almost gave up until i found this video ...great video...makes me smile to hear this playing ...haha

  • It's just a cheap acoustic I got in a pawn shop many years ago. The brand name is Tradition

  • what guitar is that??

  • Open D, capoed up two frets to open E

  • nice playing man

btw, i dont think you are playing open E, you are actually playing open D. Your guitar has the capo at 2nd fret but the key is D. Probably your guitar was tuned down some frets ( open C )

just writing this to help people trying to

  • @al0102030405 why not just tune up to open E?

  • @mandowarrior123

Because that would raise the tension on the 4th and 5th strings above the capacity those are built for and so they could bust in no time. It also helps a lot to improve warpage on the guitar neck. exactly what you do not want.

That's why Open D with capo on the second fret is the way to go... Its not the same bright sound as originally tuned to Open E, but its close.

  • @caralhosvosfodam well if you use it often the strings will rot pretty quickly anyway and if you tune it down when you arent using it you get no warp.

forget what i just said for a minuite, music is about sound! you do things cus it sounds better if it means a shorter life on your guitar and strings so be it. the way i play the low E tends to be the one to go first anyway, and when one goes i get the set because they will be rotten by then anyway and sound bad.

  • What is the tuning of the guitar?

  • Where did you learn how to play slide? I can't find any good videos or site that teach how to play slide. Great video btw.

  • Listening to records is how I started. There are a lot of good slide video's on youtube if you look around.

  • I use martin mediums myself. Then I tune the guitar down to a D. If I want to play in E I just use a capo at the second fret.

  • would you recommend a special type of strings for slide to sound better?

  • This is just improvised in open D tuning, it's parts of a lot of different songs.

As far as recommending songs to learn in this tuning. There are a lot of guys teaching songs in open D right here on youtube, do a search on open D and learn from the guys that have the sound you like. Fred mcdowel had a lot of cool songs in this tuning too. Search him out here.

  • what's the name of this song? and what's your tuning in this video? what songs would you recommend for playing with slide, songs that are similiar to the one that you are playing here

  • I love the sound of a slide on an acoustic guitar, or resonator, or electric. Thanks for the comment.

  • Far out! This is such a sweet sound. Subscribing right now. Great - really great.

  • Rad!!! Whats the tuning? I'm still struggling to get my thumb to keep the bass....respect mate!

  • Open E, or open D and capoed up to E. Thanks for the comment, glad you like it.

  • Whats the name of the thing you use on the strings? I don't mean the slide, and not the capo, but the thing on your thumb.

  • It's called a thumb pick.

  • hey man thts pretty cool make soome more videos that was good

  • Awesome!

  • what's that you have in the finger dude

  • It's a brass slide.

  • Dude read the name of the video it sais slide guitar!

  • maybe this guys didnt know wut was slide guitar men ... u surely asked ur self someday wuts this :O

  • maybe he meant his strumming hand

cuz hes using a thumb pick also

  • you play good, you should practice the part of slide in my sweet lord if you are good in slide

  • Thanks, maybe I will.

  • what tuning are you in?

  • I'm in open D, capoed 2 frets to open E.

  • hey! great video! i love slide guitar...isn't that you are playing a robert johnson's song? i think i've already listen that song before but i can't tell where...

  • I'm just improvising. It's parts of a lot of songs.

  • well, nice work then...it's great..

  • Thanks.

  • thanks I needed that! kick ass! it's a damn crying shame, that the slide blues guitar is almost a lost art! 5 stars here!

  • Thanks. it is a dying thing, I love slide guitar.

  • Are you in standard tuning with the capo on

    the second fret?

  • It's in open D tuning actually. If you capo to the second fret it makes it open E tuning.

  • I'm glad you liked it. I don't have anything instructional because I don't really know a lot myself, there are far better players on here. If you want me to show you something basic I can put a video up:)

  • Any chance of some instructional videos? Great playing!
