  • I like it when stories are captioned so I can learn sign because I am a beginner but I agree that it does not need to have subtitles for hearing people.

  • I can't believe so many people criticize a story like this. I'm in advanced sign language classes and it's AWESOME to see a deaf person sign a story exactly the way he would tell it to a friend. Perfect!! And I think captioning an ASL story is A STUPID idea. If a person doesn't know ASL, why would they watch it? This is for people who understand the language, or want to get better at understanding.

  • Happy New Year 2011! on a deaf specific dating site Deafornot dot c om, it requires members to disclose their condition upfront

  • not funny

  • Deafornot dot c om is an online community for deaf, ASL and hearing-impaired friends and singles!

Have fun with photos, message boards, chat, blog and more.

  • whats weird is sometimes I can like actually understand sign language and then like when I watch something that I can like really understand I get all excited and mess, and then I watch something like this where its like all fast and I can't understand and it totally bums me out because I thought i was getting good at understanding.

  • ...no idea what happened there.

  • Wow that is not cool tho.

  • ohhh wow! Did that really happen to you? What a pity!

But it was good one . Thanks for sharing.

  • Lol, stupid referee. So, referee made up the story to get him kicked out of the game or he actually thought he saw the deaf football player move his lips like he's swearing?

  • that story was just plain funny as hell

  • Is this the way sign language is generally made or is this guy just really over excited?

  • Nope, this is pretty normal!

  • jeez, it's people like that ref that make hearing people like myself look like morons. It took me about three views but I finally got the story. (I'm only in semester 3 of ASL).

  • yes that truth the referee sometime misunderstood what deaf player say it automic out of game without any explain .

  • haha, stupid referee.

  • r u really deaf?

  • who here is deaf?

  • i don't get it.

  • hahaha... very funny!!! that player try cook a story to make referee to believe that other party player say a foul lang but fact that other person is really deaf that he dont know at 1st haha...

  • That referee was either retarded or just plainly evil. I remember I was watching a women's soccer game at Gally. I noticed a referee talked too much with visiting players and couldn't talk with Gally's players, b/c he didn't know sign language. Sometimes, they thought it was not right call against them. They complained, but he didn't understand. They also complained with gesture that he shouldn't talk with them. He ignored. I got a feeling that he was plainly evil.

  • lol hearing is dumb lol

  • lol that sucks!!!! boy i hate it when some stupid jackasses do that. i m sure u will find way to get him back :)

  • looks like it would be a funny story but i lack the skills to know whats being said

  • hahaha i laughed so hard, that referee is retard!

  • i wish i could understand cause according to most people who can read sign language..it was pretty funny soo..could someone explain?i better go learn sign language..never know when youll need it

  • Nope, but you probably are for asking that.

  • Lol was being sarcastic. And trying to sound ignorant. I guess it worked.

  • hahaha! good one.

  • Wow, a great story. I have to tell ya though, this also happened in South Carolina last week. The Dutch Fork High football team drew a penalty during a game because their outstanding deaf player did not hear the whistle! However, he made up for it by making a play that set up the winning score for the team. Thanks for your story....and the great vocalizations you put into it. You really are a great "deaf-deaf" deafie! Luv ya!

  • Shame i couldn't here the joke.......

sorry i just found it amusing the way you described the football situation, are you american?

"Drew a penalty" we would say "won or got"

and talk of "making plays" and "winning scores" is also alien to me. It's like american football talk translated to real football. we might say "set up the winner/winning goal"

    no offense, it's just different

  • Yes, Stupid, I am an American, use ASL, taught English to deaf and HOH high school students for 25 years. The words I used were straight out of the newspaper and if they are foreign to you, then please enroll in an English class or come to my house for lessons. A course in language idioms might also be helpful to you.

  • Sorry i didn't mean to say Shame i couldn't here the joke..... i don't know sign and looked at the comments to attempt to figure out something about it.

then i saw your comments, thought i'd comment on how the phrases we use about fottball are different. to see how you would react. Maybe i'd get a harmless reply about how the way i say it is stupid or something.

well if i was in your postion thats what my reply would have been.

  • haha! Hilarious! that happens all the time when my friends come over to my house and they use their voices, sometimes, my parents are like "What?!" and I have to explain it didnt come out as a real word just a sound that sounds like something but its not (most of the time)!

  • haha! Hilarious! that happens all the time when my friends come over to my house and they use their voices, sometimes, my parents are like "What?!" and I have to explain it didnt come out as a real word just a sound that sounds like something but its not (most of the time)!

  • obviously an inside joke. you've proven your point. not terrible nice of you, but you've proven it none the less.

  • im so laught so hard cuz ur so funny man!!

  • that was funny!! great story!

people at work might think i am crazy for laughing so loud! haha

  • Good story. That's happened to my friend before during one of his football games against another deaf football team. It didn't matter that everyone was deaf...you still can't "curse" or show any disagreement toward the ref.

  • the story seems long... and i dont kno sign language so like.. the first 2 mins i thought that by that time someone was gonna tell the story...

  • GOT IT ?

  • UMMMM,....SUBTITLES People, we have the technology. Jokes are only half funny when only half of the people GET IT

  • when you hearing people subtitle all of your hearing videos for the deaf, we'll consider doing the same for you

  • then go learn sign language and stop being ignorant

  • Great story! However, I wish that all deaf stories on You Tube were closed captioned for the hearing and also for a few deaf like me who might not know some of the signs. I do not know a lot of sports signs and ASL signs differ from state to state, the same way that hearing people's dialect differs in accents in North, South, and Midwest.

  • Oh man! I love hearing people, my family is hearing and don't know sign... but phew... hearing people can be stupid with deaf sometimes!

  • haha good story

  • Cool I'm the first view, rating and comment.

  • Thank you!
