Typical lying leftist drivel. Bush volunteered for Vietnam, as even the morons at CBS acknowledged (check the Rather-gate panel report, page 130, top paragraph).
mbu17...The panel report states that he volunteered to be a pilot overseas while already in the Texas Air National Guard. However, he did not have the flight hours to qualify. Personally, I do not consider volunteering for a position that he knowingly would not be accepted into as actually volunteering.
You have no basis for the claim that he knew he would be rejected, and it's rather implausible - unless you think he did it to trick future historians into thinking that he wanted to serve. I guess it was all a clever ploy, in anticipation of an investigation more than thirty years in the future.
@mbu17 Bush didn't volunteer for jack shit. His daddy pulled strings so he could get into the Texas Air Guard that wasn't going to Vietnam. Basically a form of draft dodge. Volunteered for Vietnam? My ass. If he "really" volunteered he would of gone in some manner because in war there are never too many volunteers. He could of joined the Army. His ass buddy Cheney dodged Vietnam five times with five deferments. Nothing but a double standard with Republicans just like Democrats with Clinton.
Keep telling yourself that. We wouldn't want to shatter your silly leftist world-view.
Mary Mapes knew otherwise (even though she refused to report it), and CBS's investigation determined otherwise, but hey, obviously they're in on the conspiracy.
@mbu17 A ma named Ben Barnes admitted under oath he pulled strings so Bush could safely get into the Texas Air Guard. Even if Bush did as you said he knew he would be rejected. All so he could look brave but in the end he knew he wouldn't go and would be safe. And as far as your leftist comment goes, yeah just keep falling for all the divide and conquer tactics that if some disagrees with one side they're automatically from the other. The truth is both sides can suck my dick bitch!
Terry Bradshaw was not the president of the United States we should expect more of our president this country was full of draft dodgers back then but most didn't run for president and claim to be war heroes and where does Bush get off criticizing Kerry for his war record he risked his life in vietnam and fought with honor because he's not a coward who sends other people kids off to die
if you indict Bush for avoiding Viet Nam then you must also include those ivy league students at yale, harvard, cornel etc. How many of these rich spoiled clowns ever served in Viet Nam or even the national guard. Yes thousands got special treatment during the Viet Nam war and probably all wars. I am a Viet Nam vet and was drafted and served in the infantry 11b10 101st Airborne 68-69
thats a bunch of crap I was drafted and went to Viet Nam with child. there was no deferment for having children in the Viet Nam. Terry Bradshaw avoid the draft but he could throw a football.
Bill Clinton registers for the draft on September 08, 1964,

I'm suprised that you bothered to answer a 4 month old comment. I know you probably intended sarcasm in this case, however, you may be close to the truth. Certain newscasters lost their jobs at very liberal networks just for lying about this very issue. There's a difference between joining a branch of the military during a time of war and moving to another country to avoid it.
During the Vietnam War, the National Guard was a haven for draft-dodgers. That's why there was a waiting list of 100,000 people trying to get in. If Bill Clinton had been the son of a US Senator, he would've been hiding out in the National Guard instead of running off to Canada. George W. Bush was given a cush assignment, and he didn't even show up for his Guard duty.
I'm amazed and sickened by how shamelessly you Republicans overlook George W. Bush's selfishness and cowardice.
Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden received five student draft deferments during the Vietnam War, the same number of deferments received by Vice President Dick Cheney
Democrat party needed was to run a more moderate/centrist or conservative/Democrat against him, Republicans would have peeled off to vote for him, but NOoooo! rich east coast (out of touch) liberals run the party.

Yeah he would have gotten a lot more respect had he used his connections to totally avoid the draft (even The National Guard), claimed how much he "loathed the military", organized anti-war protests on foreign soil.
This is what you don't get. They are all criminals. Bush and Clinton, Dems & Repubs put on the show like they hate each other, but they push the agenda through. People are to distracted and fighing to see what is really going on. The media is owned.
Actually, hint, all draft dodgers were pardoned after the war and righfully so because Vietnam was a bullshit war of lies.
Also, key differenc between Clinton and Bush. Clinton didn't support the war, and he didged the draft because he refused to fight in a war he didn't belive in.
You're absolutely correct. I don't condone Clinton either for the way he avoided the draft, but at least he had specific reasons for doing so, i.e. he opposed the war and its cause.
Bush on the other hand, avoided the draft simply because he was a coward.
So, do you as an american get to choose the right war that fits your agenda. the truth is that most rich kids did avoid Viet Nm. Terry Bradshaw quarterback avoid the draft because he could throw a football and other kids died in his place. I served in the infantry with the 101st 1968 and with luck came home whole.
Are you waiting for me to agree with you? The Guard in the 1960s was a haven for draft-dodgers and most of these were the children of rich politicians. Dan Quayle avoided and so did Lloyd Bentsen's son. And so did Bush, Clinton probably would have if he had had the connections. But at least Clinton and Quayle never made themselves out to be war heroes like GWB did, dressing up as a fighter pilot and landing on an aircraft carrier.
Amen. When I see Bush bumper stickers...I wonder if they are intelligent enough to be ashamed that they show their support to The Idiocracy on their SUV. Oh yeah, it's nearly always an SUV. Very sad, these Bush supporters, so brainwashed by Fox Snooze.
To all you people suffering BDS I have great news!! This video is based on bullshit and lies!! yay!!!
Burkett said he had merely been a conduit for the records purported to be from the private files of Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, one of Bush's former Guard commanders, who died in 1984. Burkett admitted lying to USA TODAY about the source of the documents but said he did not fabricate the papers.
By Dave Moniz, Kevin Johnson and Jim Drinkard, USA TODAY
Its people who believe that Jews are gods people and should we treated better than everyone else. For example: The War in Iraq is about "protecting Israel" and so will the war in Iran be as well. Its about dieing for the Jews because our blood is not as important than theirs.
No it'a about seeing that most of us, Jews Christians, athiests etc are all being fooled. This ruling elite (illuminati) keeps most of us arguing so they can control us.
Greg Palast is one the best Journalist in the world, to bad the US does not care about journalism anymore. Infotainment is the priority of "American News"
I am no fan of George Bush. However, I have to disagree with Bill White, who said the Air National Guard did not train pilots. My USAF pilot training class, 1967-E at Reese Air Force Base, Lubbock, Texas, had an Air National Guard student pilot who had never been on active duty outside the Guard. His situation was exactly like that of George W. Bush, who took USAF pilot training as a Guardsman at Moody Air Force Base, Valdosta, Georgia.
Bill White said, "To my knowledge.." which allows for not knowing everything. So, give up the name of the student pilot in your class and let's confirm your data. I think you get the overall point, there was special treatment that has been hidden. Bush is a lying useless prick that needs to just go straight to hell.
HowardMorland, the huge difference is that Bush was guaranteed not to go to Vietnam. He had a rich and powerful father to get him into a champagne unit and then to cover up the fact that he couldn't be bothered to show up for his one weekened a month while still getting paid for it.
no, our media has no deafness or dumbness problems. On the contrary, it has never been able to "see" better. However, it has got very selective criteria on what it tells you and what it doesn't. Privatising everything leads to precisely this kind of phenomenon: private TV channels telling you whatever they want to tell you, advertising whatever makes them most...
good commentary luis. I also believe the difference lies in the amount of coverage. news on Bush's shortcomings pale in comparison to news on O.J., Paris or Vick.
davi, I for one do not rely on newspapers and no longer watch TV... it doesn't just bore me, it causes outright revulsion to see the conspicuous amount of bullshit on the screen. Forget Soviet propaganda, this is an outright pisstake... please... time to turn off the media.
Yes, well the reason is the media is controlled and will not put this info out in the mainstream news. When anything like this does make it out it's "propaganda".
actually, he lost both elections. thank Diebold Corp for that. It was proven after both elections the machines were programmed in many rural areas to put Bush over the top.
i agree! sad, it seems we've had so few genuinely honest presidents. carter may have been one, probably why he wasn't very effective or memorable. and before then? probably have to go way back to the founding fathers.

You are another dumb right wing fool.
Name the felony President Clinton has. Make another fool of yourself, go ahead.

draft doging is a felony.

Perjury and Obstruction of Justice
mikefrothy 4 years ago 3
Actually, hint, all draft dodgers were pardoned after the war and righfully so because Vietnam was a bullshit war of lies.
Also, key differenc between Clinton and Bush. Clinton didn't support the war, and he didged the draft because he refused to fight in a war he didn't belive in.

But Clinton didn't lie to invade any countries!!
niggerizationofusa22 3 years ago
clinton didn't invade any countries.he may have had some rocket attacks but he didn't invade.
cadu1995 3 years ago
You're absolutely correct. I don't condone Clinton either for the way he avoided the draft, but at least he had specific reasons for doing so, i.e. he opposed the war and its cause.
Bush on the other hand, avoided the draft simply because he was a coward.
sean2015 2 years ago
So, do you as an american get to choose the right war that fits your agenda. the truth is that most rich kids did avoid Viet Nm. Terry Bradshaw quarterback avoid the draft because he could throw a football and other kids died in his place. I served in the infantry with the 101st 1968 and with luck came home whole.
delta2901 2 years ago
Are you waiting for me to agree with you? The Guard in the 1960s was a haven for draft-dodgers and most of these were the children of rich politicians. Dan Quayle avoided and so did Lloyd Bentsen's son. And so did Bush, Clinton probably would have if he had had the connections. But at least Clinton and Quayle never made themselves out to be war heroes like GWB did, dressing up as a fighter pilot and landing on an aircraft carrier.
That's what makes GWB such a hypocrite.

If I were a bush supporter I would slit my wrists for being such a fool.

Its people who believe that Jews are gods people and should we treated better than everyone else. For example: The War in Iraq is about "protecting Israel" and so will the war in Iran be as well. Its about dieing for the Jews because our blood is not as important than theirs.
Dumbell99 4 years ago
No it'a about seeing that most of us, Jews Christians, athiests etc are all being fooled. This ruling elite (illuminati) keeps most of us arguing so they can control us.

There is that too.

HowardMorland 4 years ago
Bill White said, "To my knowledge.." which allows for not knowing everything. So, give up the name of the student pilot in your class and let's confirm your data. I think you get the overall point, there was special treatment that has been hidden. Bush is a lying useless prick that needs to just go straight to hell.
dartsp 4 years ago
HowardMorland, the huge difference is that Bush was guaranteed not to go to Vietnam. He had a rich and powerful father to get him into a champagne unit and then to cover up the fact that he couldn't be bothered to show up for his one weekened a month while still getting paid for it.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
Why has this story still not received major coverage? Is our entire media deaf, dumb and blind?
ellenandron 4 years ago 6
no, our media has no deafness or dumbness problems. On the contrary, it has never been able to "see" better. However, it has got very selective criteria on what it tells you and what it doesn't. Privatising everything leads to precisely this kind of phenomenon: private TV channels telling you whatever they want to tell you, advertising whatever makes them most...
luisalbertoverga 4 years ago
good commentary luis. I also believe the difference lies in the amount of coverage. news on Bush's shortcomings pale in comparison to news on O.J., Paris or Vick.
davibaby62 4 years ago
davi, I for one do not rely on newspapers and no longer watch TV... it doesn't just bore me, it causes outright revulsion to see the conspicuous amount of bullshit on the screen. Forget Soviet propaganda, this is an outright pisstake... please... time to turn off the media.

it amazes me still that any military member (let alone viet nam vets) could have voted for this shitbag.
menotyou66 4 years ago 6
Yes, well the reason is the media is controlled and will not put this info out in the mainstream news. When anything like this does make it out it's "propaganda".
leia176oo 4 years ago
actually, he lost both elections. thank Diebold Corp for that. It was proven after both elections the machines were programmed in many rural areas to put Bush over the top.
davibaby62 4 years ago
i agree! sad, it seems we've had so few genuinely honest presidents. carter may have been one, probably why he wasn't very effective or memorable. and before then? probably have to go way back to the founding fathers.
