Nice Playing man!..Hey man one question, Does your guitar serial number start like this..S92XXXX..or something like that? I have the same guitar as you do but I'm not sure if it was made in 1992..Thanks in Advanced.
6L6s in a JCM900 ? omg... if u want an american kinda sound, get a fender amp stocked with 6L6s. But dont waste this original cool british amp with 6L6s...
dude on i have the jcm900 combo...the 100w one speaker one...4101 model...ur clean channel is just guitar into the amp? and btw i use an mxr boost/OD thru it and it thickens up so well...its beautiful:D not marshally tho i must say...sounds alot more modern but i m VERY happy with my sounds...anyways could u also tell me what tubes ur using? preamp AND the brand of the power amp tubes?
I think they were both electro-harmonix, but I can't check for you because I sold the JCM-900 shortly after this video was made. I traded amps and shit and currently I have a 2003 Jcm-2000 DSL-50 and I've never been more happy with my tone in my entire life. I bought it because my two favorite bands use it (rise against, and smile empty soul) it nails the sound I was looking for. Thick, ballsy, very marshall like.
my goodness ! (actually , i don't care at all about this story of watts and specifications ... it's a JCM900 4101 , seein' it on tomorrow ... if it sounds good , i'll buy it , i have a good price on it ... then retube it and replace the speakers and let's see if that baby can rock ! )
Best thing i ever used with the JCM900 was a maxon Od808. I used it to boost the lead channel into chunky metal territory. I ve also owned the Fulltone OCD. Check my vids if you wanna see what they all sound like. They re in my older vids.
i don't care about ppl say , for rock tones (think of zeppelin , hendrix , to a bit of gun's & roses and a bit of metal too , with my trusty SH6-equipped and vastly customised ibanez RG) this amp really does the trick , and for cleans too ... got the 5881 version ... happy to have it and thanks for the advice you gave me ! now i'll try an overdrive with it ! but mainly , it's a good little amp ^^
@georgakis187 Which groove tubes would work best in a 900 4100 100w? I like their sound better than other tubes. My cab is 1960BX w/25w greenbacks 16 ohms 100w. Peace
haha...whatever. Id take a mesa over a marshall any day. Or Bogner, Diezel, VHT, Framus...but gotta be reasonable. Mesa is pretty fair to compare to though.
paf's in general, if you know anything about guitars AT ALL you know that original PAF pickups are the most prized pickups ever made. I bet you can't find an original pair of them for under $4000. This is why seymour duncan and other companies often have tried to repicate the sound of them.
Haha that's why Tom Morello used a 2205 and it's a 1984 (I've personally looked at the serial number on his and it dates to 1984). Oh and btw mine was a 1984 :). JMP's are awesome but crazy expensive.
It was built for El34 tubes dude. If you want 6L6 go mesa or peavey...something like those brands. Marshalls go for the mid crunch...its supposed to be sort of like that. Run EL34s and have your bias adjusted...should fix it
I hate to burst your bubble...marshalls arent made for low end. There isnt a mid-cut switch either. Marshalls are for mids. If you want lows get a 5150 or Rectifier....maybe some expensive German amp if you can afford it...bogner, diezel, Engl.
I have a jcm900 combo, and it actually came with 6L6's (5881s). I think there was a shortage of EL34s at the time. I once had it rebiased with EL34s, and there was even less bass. I eventually had it rebiased back. True that Marshalls aren't know for bottom end, but the 900s are the worst for this. The amp has it's uses though.
Distortion wise-the DSL 50 kicks the shit out of the JCM 900 it sounds better, is more versatile, more sensative to EQ, warmer, richer, and can get more nasty. However the JCM-900's clean channel was incredible. The DSL-50's clean is awesome but it shares an EQ and it's a little bit bright for my tastes.
Also....you might be spending quite a bit though. Marshall's have gone WAY up in used price lately, a nice JCM-900 4100 with EL-34's you're probably looking at in the $675-850 range.
wow... i made a nice deal getting mine . it was like 300$ and it's the 5881 and it sounds really fine to me ;)
i was afraid of playing a bad amp then returning home without anythin' to play on ... but then , i plugged my telecaster . and then , instant rock'n'roll ... i was just amazed and the man who sold it to me was amazed because it sounded really sweet with my tele , my settings and my playing =D seems i found a good combination ! (i play blues ,rock and funk , mainly , and a bit of jazz)
yeah , and the crunch is awesome on this amp . to me , at least ... i will try to boost it to get sweet overdrives tones from that crunchy tone ... but hey , it sounds really good , reminding me of the great tone of a plexi (not really a plexi's tone , but a good marshall-colored tone with rich harmonics is just what i want . and twenty women and a stack of coaine , champagne and a limousine too !(lyrics of a song of mine)
Can't understand why you're running a 900 with 6l6s and complaining about the dirty channel. Plus the fact that you're using an Epiphone through a 900 leaves me thinking you don't know a whole lot about achieving a great tone. Sorry to sound like a fag, im just saying you got rid of a very nice amp. But hey, props on getting a Framus, awesome amps.
My 900 has WAAYY more balls, what setting/tubes/cab/speakers did you use, and did you ever try to push it with an boost pedal like an TS or equivalent OD
running through a standard 900 cab with stock celestions, 6L6 tubes....trust me it was the amp, i tried to tweak the motherfucker for about 2 weeks before giving it up. I never tried using a tubescreamer or the like because I don't bother with pedals, I want a amp that I don't have to fuck around with in order to play a show...which is why my Framus Cobra is in the mail.
hum.. I don't know mine has alot of balls without pushing it but once pushed it's gain heaven. 1960A with 75's not sure about the brand of the tubes but i wouldn't trade my head
Ha...actually this is the one with 6L6 I put the 6550 under the description because I have a jcm 800 that takes them and that is what my mind was set on for some reason.

It's certainly a waste when it takes all of 5 minutes to swap out some tubes.

oh my god . so the 4101 is 100W
i'll have it monday ... holy shit , i'll kill my neighbours lol
(actually , the day is saved , i can pass it into 25w via a switch ^^ so no worries , it will be 25w all the time ... )
GroovyGuitar02 2 years ago
actually the 4101 is 100w and switches down to 50w. so no 25w.
but i used to own it in my dorm room and i got by, so there.
georgakis187 2 years ago
damn ! 50w ?
my goodness ! (actually , i don't care at all about this story of watts and specifications ... it's a JCM900 4101 , seein' it on tomorrow ... if it sounds good , i'll buy it , i have a good price on it ... then retube it and replace the speakers and let's see if that baby can rock ! )
GroovyGuitar02 2 years ago
The speaker in it is pretty good already. Its a celestion g12-100t if i m not mistaken.
Also i d change the tubes to JJs. JJ EL34L in the power section and JJ ECC83S in the preamp and you ll be set to go.
georgakis187 2 years ago
oh , a G12T100 ... oh , yeah , that's sweet ... forgot a 75w G12T75 may not fit into a 100w combo lol ^^
and the G12T100 has a reputation of "good speaker" on some discussion forum i belong to ...
okay , i'll put some JJs in my JCM900 =D btw , do you have a good overdrive pedal (from light crunch to light distortion) to recommend me ?

His paf pu's were considered the best..or paf's in general. And who said they are considered the best sounding pu's ever made?..

PAF pick-ups are great but not for all. I like the sound of a PAF Pro in the neck but not the bridge. I haven't heard an Original PAF though.
Zaneus92 3 years ago
You need to post a video of the amp with EL-34's and rebiased. I think it would sound better. And don't forget to just crank the fucker!
djonesy59 4 years ago
Agree! EL-34's will make the JCM-900 sound great. Truly, the difference will be astounding.
Sweeper5 3 years ago
there's ther problem. you've tried all fo their shit amps. was the jcm800 the 2205? those were shit, for sure. jmp is the way to go

slashnumberonefan 4 years ago
dude its a marshall...use EL34s and maybe that will solve your problem. The different tubes affect the sound a lot.
425V8 4 years ago
6L6's have more bottom end then EL-34's and this thing was more trebley than a vintage radio.
slashnumberonefan 4 years ago

That still doesnt solve the problem of no bottom end pal, and this thing has long been gone I got rid of it in August.

Yes, but do you hear ANY bottom end in this amp? I sure as hell didn't.
slashnumberonefan 3 years ago
well if you're looking for the brootalz amount of gain then why did you get a jcm 900?
acdclandon1 3 years ago
Because a JCM-900 (with a tube screamer) is capable of it.
slashnumberonefan 3 years ago
but i mean are you saying that you can't compare marshalls to mesas because of bottom end or are you complaining about the lack of bottom end
cuz i thought you were
acdclandon1 3 years ago
The lack of bottom end in this specififc amp, I have a JCM-2000 DSL 50 now and its got plenty of bottom end.
slashnumberonefan 3 years ago
hmm i see
how do the two stack up to each other than?
acdclandon1 3 years ago
Distortion wise-the DSL 50 kicks the shit out of the JCM 900 it sounds better, is more versatile, more sensative to EQ, warmer, richer, and can get more nasty. i'm looking to get the 900
would you reccomend it?

Yeah, I just wouldn't buy one without EL-34's. Otherwise than that they're awesome.

try an EQ in the FX loop , bro' ^^
it will help for bottom end ... well , mine has little bottom end too, but i always go for a sweet tight bottom ! lol

is cos its running 6L6s. if you find one with EL34s its a WHOLE different ballgame.
