If you don't lose it online the game actually counts it against you in grand prix since you fell into the water even though your time was a lot faster. It makes it much harder to get 3 stars especially if you abuse every glitch shortcut you can. Sure you could use it in time trials, but then people who download your ghost through spot pass will face you and others who use this glitch and get mad.
Therefore there is no good place to use it if you really are against it.

I always sit at the cliff waiting for the cheating bastards to come, I usually try to get some shells and wait for them to come and hit them, and laugh as they fall, I don't care if I come in last, I just don't want the cheaters to win and allow the real racers to win.
I was playing mk7 online and some JASON guy playing as a shyguy chose maka wuhu and he did this glitch. we were in the nintendoshow3d community in an 8-player GP and it was the third race. I was in first place with 16 points and when the race was about to start I was like OMG. Luckily, a thunderbolt, a blue shell and a red shell were sent to him and he came in last place. I guess he was super pissed so he caused a connection error and the race ended

Its Nintendo's fault for not patching their games. They act like its 1999 still when it comes to online functions. But they may patch this because they said they are releasing dlc for this game
@JeffreyJenness I've heard a lot of complaints going around about Nintendo being too oldschool or 'low tech' becuase they're refusing to patch it. If they're 'acting like it's 1999', then how come they've managed to make a game that runs in 60fps in 2D and 3D with gyro control and really good handheld graphics (for their standards) that, despite this flaw, still has a really good online community?
@BludRedDragon Well they recently announced they are going to do DLC. They are behind the times when it comes to online play....the game itself is very high tech I agree. But they can patch it without charging, it should be easy since it already has a good online
@JeffreyJenness Yeah i guess they spend more time working on single player games (like the legend of zelda) that dont have online so thats why its not well developed. The Mario kart games and smash brothers are the only real 'online' nintendo games.

When I end up racing on Maka Wuhu online I try to get Triple Bananas on the way up and lay them near the cliff. Then I start driving up the CORRECT WAY and laugh while I look at all the little cheaters spin off the cliff. If I don't get triple bananas I come in last knowing I didn't cheat.
Basically everyone I face now uses this glitch (maybe 1 or 2 exceptions sometimes) and a lot do the ones on Wuhu Loop too. Everyone I face is pretty experienced, knows about this, and probably doesn't care as much about the "crime" of "cheating" when everyone does it. The "good" thing is that a lot of them avoid choosing this course.
If you face less experienced people then more may not know about it or have stronger feelings against it, so in a way the segregation is ok.
After watching some Mario Kart 64 videos I'm surprised that a bunch of speedrunners aren't defending this glitch as being a legitimate way to speed through the course because it doesn't involve gameshark or whatever.
I do have to wonder though, how did anyone even FIND this?

Some idiot named まっちちゃん (2 fake stars here) spammed Maka Wuhu, and it ended up being chosen twice. Inevitably, this fuck-skin glitches through the track.
Lol I saw a guy who only chose it, and it got chosen AT LEAST 6 TIMES in a row, and he and maybe one other a few times was the only one who picked it out of 6-8 people except the first time.

I found this glitch by online racing, Some nerd was very very ahead of me and i'm like wtf he didn't pass me then the next time maka wuhu came 3 more people were ahead of me, Then i slow down to last place to find out how the hell they do it, I found out took me 2 trys because it was new and I had no mushroom.
Next time I go online, my setup will be Metal Mario/Bruiser/Monster Wheels/Super Glider. If Maka Wuhu get chosen, I will take first, sit at that corner, and screw up anyone who tries this glitch.

@satan915 Ok, so I kind of exaggerated it. You're quite right, it would be dumb to do something like that. I was just really angry about the glitch at the time of the writing, so that sort. Still, if I could find a good way to discourage people from doing it, I would use it. You are correct when you say that my suggested method is stupid, however.
Well actually if it's possible to lose VR easily in this game, coming in last enough may put you with people new enough who don't know about it or don't use it, but I've still seen people in the 1000-2000 VR range use it, and you probably want to play harder opponents anyways.
If possible, find a community that doesn't use it.
@satan915 There are problems with finding such communities. All of the big ones who consistently have people playing are bound to have cheaters (ex: Mario Cup). If there are communities where you don't see cheating, it's due to mutual agreement. Sadly, that probably means that it's used by a small group of people. I think that we just have to wait and hope for a patch, which is too bad, as this game has otherwise wonderful online.
I never use this glitch. If I see people repeating this track, I usually just turn off my 3DS or stop for trolling the glitchers with a star or leaf. People should just stop doing this cheap glitch. It's not so important to win, you'll only gain / lose few points...
Part of me is ok with people doing this because you pretty much have to because you know there is a chance other people will do it. The thing is this one kid kept continuously voting for this track to boost his score because he knew it was the only we he could win. Somehow it got picked three damn times in a row. After that two different courses got picked and he proceeded to get 7th and 6th. I wished we could send messages so badly because I would've told him to kill himself and that he's trash

It's not I still have a chance at winning if I don't take it. I'm not going to take 8th place just because I didn't take a glitch shortcut. It's a shame, nintendo worked pretty hard on this game, and they missed something that completely ruins a good 2/3s of a track...

@Johnnymushio You really should learn how the game works. If you come in last, you lose VR points. As long as you don't come in the very last position, you don't lose any VR points (at least I think, been a while since I played online). Also, stop trying to switch my words around, it's immature.

So when 6 people out of 8 do it you shouldn't do it? Plus you never know when someone will use it (it's used a lot). Sure I play the game for fun, and part of that fun is competitiveness which INCLUDES doing something in the game that everyone else can and sometimes does do. When it comes down to it, there's no right or wrong way to play a game when you aren't hacking or modifying it.
I got a 3 star rank in all CCs and beat most people online without this glitch, I'm no noob.

I found this glitch by online racing, Some nerd was very very ahead of me and i'm like wtf he didn't pass me then the next time maka wuhu came 3 more people were ahead of me, Then i slow down to last place to find out how the hell they do it, I found out took me 2 trys because it was new and I had no mushroom.

Next time I go online, my setup will be Metal Mario/Bruiser/Monster Wheels/Super Glider. If Maka Wuhu get chosen, I will take first, sit at that corner, and screw up anyone who tries this glitch.

Still, if I could find a good way to discourage people from doing it, I would use it. You are correct when you say that my suggested method is stupid, however.

Well actually if it's possible to lose VR easily in this game, coming in last enough may put you with people new enough who don't know about it or don't use it, but I've still seen people in the 1000-2000 VR range use it, and you probably want to play harder opponents anyways.
If possible, find a community that doesn't use it.

@satan915 There are problems with finding such communities. All of the big ones who consistently have people playing are bound to have cheaters (ex: Mario Cup). If there are communities where you don't see cheating, it's due to mutual agreement. Sadly, that probably means that it's used by a small group of people. I think that we just have to wait and hope for a patch, which is too bad, as this game has otherwise wonderful online.

I never use this glitch. If I see people repeating this track, I usually just turn off my 3DS or stop for trolling the glitchers with a star or leaf. People should just stop doing this cheap glitch. It's not so important to win, you'll only gain / lose few points...

Part of me is ok with people doing this because you pretty much have to because you know there is a chance other people will do it. The thing is this one kid kept continuously voting for this track to boost his score because he knew it was the only we he could win. Somehow it got picked three damn times in a row. After that two different courses got picked and he proceeded to get 7th and 6th. I wished we could send messages so badly because I would've told him to kill himself and that he's trash

R.I.P. Indeed. Before I started racing online, I really liked this course. But since everyone else is using the shortcut, it pretty much means I have to too. It's not I still have a chance at winning if I don't take it. I'm not going to take 8th place just because I didn't take a glitch shortcut. It's a shame, nintendo worked pretty hard on this game, and they missed something that completely ruins a good 2/3s of a track...

Wanting to join Maka Wuhu Police Force?
Here's how you do it:
- Wait for the cheaters to go forward.
- Go after em slowly, pulling off the glitch after they do.
- Become 1st.
- Leave lots of bananas and other nuisances and strife to victory.
- Repeat if they choose it again.
And whatever you do, never choose Maka Wuhu yourself. This shows that you want to
play fairly, but if they want to play dirty by doing that glitch, show them that they won't win by that.
