  • wow sweet

  • I see 2 people got lost in the storm...?

  • i need this right now. thank u very much.......xxx

  • Nothing, nobody like you , Luba .Strong deep soul.

  • oldy but a goody

  • I think Rick Astley totally ripped off Luba's style....

  • I saw Luba perform this at Ontario Place. As they played, there was a huge clap of thunder and a bolt of lightning crossed the sky behind the stage. Nature was playing along with Luba that day, and it makes what's left of my hair stand on end just thinking about that magic moment, even all these years later.

  • Love the song; love Luba...pity the vid is cut off early...guess I'll need to search out a more complete version...

  • Does this song kind of remind you of Bruce Cockburns "Waiting for a Miracle"? I'm pretty sure her's was first. I love both songs anyway but the reggae grove and the chord changes are so similar.

  • classic, I remember seeing her win an award for this on tv, wow! love the way she sways her arms to the rhythm.

  • Wonderful song from Luba.. 80's classic. I haven't heard it in years.. but still sounds great. Super voice :)) Thank-you for posting ILoveLuba.

  • This sound like a different mix than the one on Secrets and Sins.

  • @Bohner33 They issued Secrets & Sins twice...the first time with the regular version, then the second time with the "video version." If you had a copy with the original version you're pretty lucky. It's relatively tough to find. I've also posted this video with the original album version.

  • @ILoveLuba You may not believe this, but I live in the US and my copy of her album includes the original version, which is slower and has different percussion. But this is the version I heard on MuchMusic when I went to university for a year at Laurentian University/Universite Laurentienne.

  • @ILoveLuba I'd pay good CDN $ for a REALLY decent vinyl of this. $5.00 for the 45, and, depending upon the scratch ratio of the FIRST issue release of this album.....

  • She never broke into the American market because they are idiots. Sorry, the truth sometimes hurts.

  • This is a real masterpiice of art, poetry, philosophy and music. What a show.

  • Luba had a really unique and foxy quality to go with that incredible voice of hers.

She sure deserves honourable mention & a place on youtube so we can all revisit 1984 and count ourselves lucky we were there to experience such an enchanting artist.

Bless you sweet dear Luba and thanks for posting this video.

    xx

  • @ValsHere Remember when 1984 was a futuristic year? Now it's ancient history! Still Luba was part of the soundtrack, Canadian content meant that this song got played a lot up here.

  • @ValsHere

Thanks for sharing this great song Val,I don't know Luba at all,but she sure has a terrific sound,I'm going to investigate her further ! lol

  • Is there anyone who phrases a song better than her?

  • What a voice!

  • Amazing voice!!

  • I still love listining to LUBA, shes such a wonderful singer

  • If the Americans had been paying any attention at all to Luba, they would have expropriated this song to be the propaganda anthemn for Operation Desert Storm. They wouldn't have needed to change a lick or a lyric. Probably just as well that they had their heads up their asses at the time.

  • Great great voice

  • I want to dedicate this song to all of the opressed women.....gays....political prisoners.....and people fighting for democracy all over the world....but especially with Iran in mind......

  • It was the 80s, we all wore "unflatteringly huge garments" My uniform was a huge bright yellow felt coat that hung to the ground and a pair of pink converse high tops!! I showed my kids some pics of me back then. They are still laughing.

  • One of the sexiest voices - Luba is a Canadian gem!!

  • LOL! The instrumental music could be good for a Mario Bros video game ;-)

  • She really was a terrific performer....anyone know what she is doing now?

  • I wondered the same thing.....

  • Bin voyonc donc. This is pure gold. How could not have been a bigger hit. She sounds like what you would get if you combined Mariah Carey's voice with Laura Branigans.

  • I saw her live in Montreal and she was amazing.....I still have yet to figure out what weight has to do with her talent?? She is a tiny petit lady.....and I've never met anyone in person who was nicer (I met her after the show). she has amazing talent that was seriously underappreciated in the 80's....too bad Montreal lost her to the Caribbean.

  • So glad to see i wasn't the only one with a mad crush on her! This really stirs some memories...

  • Luba is a power house.

  • MMM brings back lots of memories, but I didn't need to know it was 25 years ago damn didn't think it was that long ago...but she rocks and hopefully still does.

  • Funny how time flies huh? I'm with you gal...however, perhaps I'm still STUCK ... no husband, no kids - what's up with that? LOL!

    Either way, Peace.

  • Love Luba. Love the song!!!

  • I am in love........

  • yep. i was in love with her 25 years ago. welcome to the club

  • Who cares what she was. Enjoy the music.

  • Was Luba a Gay activist, it sure seems so from her videos, especially Let It Go

  • Wow, has it really been 25 years? I have this record in my basement. Long live Luba!

  • Stedgar369 You are correct.

  • Love her voice. So refreshing

  • Very nice.

Luba's voice is so powerful !!

  • I have this song on a 45 vinyl and I still love it. I remember the "look & hair" from the 80's, It's not great but that was the time but this video is still a helluva lot better than girls in bikini's and guys who don't know where their waist line is, pull up your pants men!

  • I find she has the most distinctive voice I have ever heard. It's like Laura Branigan meets Mariah Carey.

  • I've trying for four months now. I can't find Strength in Numbers anywhere. I'm mostly on Limewire and Frostwire. But nothing. That song is jus not out there and I'm wondering why? Has the world and fellow Canadians forgot about that one song?

  • We did have some real good bands up here, back in the 80's.Honeymoon Suite,Loverboy,Chilliwack,Helix,Heart etc.

The good part about living in Canada is/was the ablility to get a decent variation of worldly music. We were/are still able to listen to all the top artists from all over

North America and in the U.K.

The USA had a lot of great bands. The Eagles are still one of my favs.

  • She had a great voice. A lof of Canadian bands never got the recognition they deserved. Some made it into the US market like the Guess Who and Loverboy. Some other real good bands like Honeymoon Suite and Chilliwack did not.

Luba was a French Canadian band from Montreal

  • Could have swore she was Ukranian from Winnipeg or Saskatchewan somewhere...I do know she had a great sound then..not many can match her today!

  • nope...hubby says Winnipeg..and since Luba is a Ukranian name and Manitoba and Sask. being predominantly Ukranian I choose to believe him over an unkown...sorry.

  • Born Montreal, Quebec; 1958.

I choose to believe research :-)

  • MTL is the best!

  • Her name is Luba Kowalski

  • Not a big deal, but your hubby was wrong. She's from Montreal.

  • I love this song...it has a lot of soul and a little bit of an old'skool/reggae vibe, like what my Vincy folks used to play down in the basement...Luba gets no props!!!

  • Both she and Celine Dion were from Montreal and believe it or not, Luba was probably more popular then - at least in most of the gay dance bars which seem to be at the vanguard of pop music. Perhaps Celine had more talent, a better agent, or just more luck. It's a shame she faded away. Her songs were so different, so much fun, and full of energy. As for the "yellow tent" dress thing - for those who don't remember, the 80's were all about bad fashion :) :). That the way it was folks !

  • That yellow tent she's wearing makes her look like she weighs 220 pounds. What the hell was she thinking?

  • That was one of the many looks of the eighties, GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON,....

PS Have you considered therapy? I know a good psychiatrist and I can pass this on to you if you like,....

  • Give the man a call. While you're at it, ask him what he thinks about a person who posts two identical replies to a two month old comment, USING CAPITAL LETTERS. I think he might prescribe some serious medication for you. Come to think of it, you're probably already on some sort of pharmaceutical regimen.

  • my medication is wearing off I'll get back to you on that,....I SAID I'LL GET BACK TO YOU AFTER I GO AND RELOAD MY MEDICATIONS!!!!!!!!!

  • True, the 'tent' does sort of make her look heavy. This may be a longshot but was her style not somewhat inspired by Boy George who also used to wear unflatteringly huge garments? Check out her dance moves in 'Let It Go' as well - there's definitely some B George in there!

  • Fantastic. I love this, and I remember wanting that yellow outfit in the 80's!

  • Loved this song for over 20 years.

  • Both her and Alison Moyet both have amazing vocals

  • sexy voice

  • OMG, I wonder if she's from the same city as M+M. that first shot looks like the same park as in Martha and the Muffins - 'Danseparc'

    that is too weird...

  • i love Luba, love her voice, her lyrics. i wonder why nobodys posted her song No More Words yet?

  • Isn't that by Berlin?

  • i have no idea...i kinda thought Luba done the song...i could be wrong!!!!!!!!!

  • She had a song called No More Words off All or Nothing. It was released, but I don't remember a video. It was a totally different song from the one done by Berlin (although both rock!)

  • YEA!! I thought I heard Luba sing the song...I've never heard of Berlin though. yea thnx I'll b checkin out Berlin too

  • We need her back! She doesn't get her due props for BEING the Canadian female music industry in the 80s, and for singing with more soul than a lot of today's wannabes.

  • agreed!!

  • another awesome Canadian female rocker

  • I don't recall this Luba song, only Let it go and Everytime I see...

  • Love this song

Also loved her singing No More Words

  • We need to wake Luba up! She needs to sing some more! I think she needs a new album and everything! I love her so much!

  • Yes,, I am soo gratefull for luba , her music and videos, and most importantly the powerfull messages in all the songs and videos. I have just turned 40 and Luba and her songs and vids are really helping me with direction in my life journey. I am at a crossroads right now and Luba is helping me feel what I need to express from within myself in a powerful and healthy way.

Thanks Luba and thnak you to "I Love Luba" for posting these great videos.

    Cheers.

  • Hope that your crossroads will be a thing of the past (to bbeerad one of the contributors here).

I agree with you that Luba had powerful messages in her songs, and her lyrics were so nice---as were the vocals.

  • Great song, probably her best (or is it "Innocent, With An Explanation"?).

  • I loved Luba's songs, they all had a positive message in them. Her songs made you think about what direction you wanted to take your life in...Thanks Luba

  • thank you for posting this...

  • Good song. Pathetic video, even by 1984 standards.

  • Wow! Brilliant. I had forgotten about this... That voice...

  • Another video I love. I wish there was a Luba video compilation available.

  • There was one released on vhs back in the early 90's...that's where I got all these videos from. I found a copy of it on ebay a while back.

  • Sorry I took so long to respond. I remember seeing online a few years ago. I regret not buying it. I remember the first versions of this song and "Let it Go" before they were re-release on video. The LP Album version. I'd sure like to hear those again.
