The vietnam war was a horrendous political miscalculation, but I'm glad this memorial was able to provide some sort of solace. I also think of it as a reminder to carefully analyze all the circumstances of a situation before considering warfare as an option. Peace is the best victory, life is chaotic enough.
@primeholyassasin20 The Indonesians threw the Soviets out in 1966 because of America's commitment in Vietnam. Without that commitment, Communism would have swept all the way to the Malacca Straits that is south of Singapore and of great strategic importance to the free world. If you ask people who live in these countries that won the war in Vietnam, they have a different opinion from the American news media. The Vietnam War was the turning point for Communism.
@primeholyassasin20 The common belief is that the domino theory was proved false.
Fact: The domino theory was accurate. The ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand stayed free of Communism because of the U.S. commitment to Vietnam.
Thank you for this video. I spent 15 months in the Mekong with the Mobile Riverene Force, 1968-69. Now I ride with Vietnam Legacy Vets Motorcycle Club. Never again!!
What I always remember is how many people believe the Memorial, when it's design was initially unveiled, believed it would be a disaster, myself included - all I know is I wasn't standing in front of that wall for more than 10 seconds before I started bawling - an incredible powerful reminder.
Medal of Honor Recipient,Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died last Wednesday at the age of 70, in Boise, Idaho.
May God Bless and Rest His Soul.
I bet you didn't hear about this hero'spassing, but we've sure seen a whole bunch about Lindsay Lohan, Tiger Woods and the bickering of congress over Health Care
@gyreenedoc And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!! Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm. He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey.
@gyreenedoc He's not MedEvac so it's not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway. Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway. And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board. Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety.
@gyreenedoc You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter. You look up to see a Huey coming in. But... It doesn't seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it.
@gyreenedoc You're a 19 year old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam .
It's November 11, 1967. LZ ( landing zone) X-ray.
Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense from 100 yards away, that your CO (commanding officer) has ordered the MedEvac helicopters to stop coming in.
Welcome home my brothers !! What a somber and happy day for me in 1982. So many Vietnam Veterans and so many names on the Wall. I will never forget how I felt that weekend. Well done video and music. It brings it all back.
i am not americian but i know how is it to lose someone. My uncle who was a special forces soldier lost his life fighting for his country. his body was not even brought home..<<<
If anyone deserves blame for the Vietnam War, it's LYNDON BAINES JOHNSON. He and his cronies were responsible for STARTING and escalating the war which reached it's height between 1965-69. Richard Nixon deserves blame too for his slow and delayed withdrawal, only because he wanted the US to leave the war with a strong face, not in disarray.
Hippies & Beatniks are such dumb people... The Vietnam Vets have endured more hardship than they'll ever realize. God Bless ALL War Veterans! :)
It is a bittersweet welcome, long delayed for the wrongly-maligned Vietnam veterans. There should be a continuous honoring of all Vietnam veterans on a specific day of the year.
The jobs not finish yet, vietnamese communist still there, future will answer for this, and South Vietnamese who lost the country like me will not feeling shameful any more. And even in Vietnam, the South Vietnamese soldiers had NO HOME to come because the enemies took over their HOME.
the Nam vets r so under rated! Ik 1 who didnt even get a welcome home cept from his family. Most of his friends were hippies and didnt even acknowledge his existence when he got home because he fought in the war and wanted to go back to help the Vietnamese
god bless the men an women who serve or served and protected this great nation.
i have family who served in the US armed forces but most have passed away.i salute the men who fought in WWII korea,Nam and the gulf war and those over seas now. GOD BLESS THE USA!
