  • Keep trying to yank the key out and see if you can break the actual cylinder... BTW use as few keys on your key ring as possible, GM ignitions are poorly built, and can't survive much weight on the end of the key.

  • Your a f ing retard

  • the key cylinder pins are worn & stuck making it hard to turn then u set them when u pull out the key making it possible to turn the cylinder without the key..instead of trying to turn the key cylinder just wiggle the key and then turn the cylinder the key will stay in..the ignition system doesn't need the key once the signal is sent to the computer recognizing the key..DO NOT FORCE THE KEY U R GONNA BREAK THE PINS OR THE KEY !!

  • tomany weigth on the key chain

  • For those who have had this problem, it's NOT the key. It's your ignition/starter switch. I had a 1999 Silverado do this...you're lucky if it "springs" back after starting...mine stayed engaged

  • are you a janitor or somthing? you have hella keys!!!

  • this guys a retard

  • @1029phil1 why would you say that? Daniel happens to be one of the few non-retard mechanics on youtube.

  • your key is wore down

  • thats what happens to alot of gm trucks my step dad has a chevy tahoe and it does the same and my cousin has a gmc yukon and it does the same to try moving just the key instead

  • my jimmy is just starting to do it i dont mind since its startiing to snow its good for cold mornings

  • try flipping it to the other side

  • same problem with my husbands truck

  • Were the teeth on the key like messed up? or something?

  • 40,001st

  • Same thing with my uncle's Tahoe.

  • That 350 starting up makes me shiver! It is a beautiful engine.

  • Your truck should not be able to stay on without the key! You have a passlock system and it should set off the Theft deterrent system immediately disabling the fuel injectors. It can cause big headaches and possibly strand you relentlessly every time you shut off the truck. Replace your ignition switch and the ignition key tumbler. you might have to learn to let your truck relearn the new key. Otherwise, take it to a certified GM mechanic or the GM dealer.

  • @Daddybopper His truck does not have the passkey system on it. You can tell because the keys do not have the small resistor pellet on them.

  • Your ignition Lock tumblers are wore out . by judging how many keys you have on your key ring you have wire it out with too much weight on it. Only keep a few keys on your keychain for your car

    Easily replaced

  • have a new key made, key is the problem

  • invisible key

  • My truck did this too until I got a new key made it wouldn't pull out anymore after that

  • My truck will do that to lol than i lost all my keys so i took my grandmas blazer key and it worked in my truck to!

  • key

  • its the key

  • I don't care what is wrong with it but thta is cooool.

  • your key is worn out the same thing happens to my wifes tahoe

  • Chavez Jr. ??

  • I have a 2000 CHEVY and my ignition is stuck in the on position. I had to pull the battery wire and turn on the ac to shut it off. I was wandering if anybody knows what to do? Thanks

  • i fix this problem everyday at lockman in buffalo ... an ignition rebuild no problem!!!!!

  • well im only 11 but maybe when you put in the key in the egnition the pins lock so when you take it out it will turn over

  • My brothers 99 z71, the ignition is stripped so you could start it, pull the keys out and do whatever you put please.

  • Keyless ignition

  • i kno my gmc sierra does the same thing. all of these trucks ive worked on does. what it does is just wears out the ignition. and eventually your ignition will only work half the time. the ignition can short out like mine. just be careful

  • you bought a chevy. that was your problem

  • @chinchillawrangler Hahaha fanboyeee

  • I have a 98, its just a worn out key. I have an old key and a new key. The old key does the exact same thing yours does, and the new key acts like it should.

  • Dude it is the key! The truck starts without the key in becuz it isnt a VATS key!

  • our ranger has done that since new in 96 lol.

  • I'll tell you one thing, that damn door open noise is REALLY F'kin annoying

  • but we sold the truck and my grandpas a mecanic

  • the key is worn down and its small enough to were it can pop out my grandpas truck did it to. :)

  • Your lock cylinder is worn. you need a new one. I don't think a new key will help, because you will be making a new key off the old one wich is also worn. You need to , disconnect the battery, pull the air bag fuse (sir on fuse panel), remove airbag, pull steering wheel, and lock plate (pin locks steering wheel) behind the turn signal cam you will find an ignition cylinder pin Torx 20 I believe and is black other 3 should be silver. Remove black screw and lock cylinder will slide out.

  • dude his cat is more important then that useless truck daneiljaegerfilms

  • look at that key man that keyy is messed right up all my chevys have done it

  • who cares whats going on , just embrace it.

  • hey i wonder do you still have that cat and the key is worn

  • the key is worn out simple as that

  • yea i now i have a mercuri villanger and it has the same think and i dont liket because i froget my keys inside

  • my z71 is like that now so i dont even take my keys with my witch is nice id just get a new ignition witch or dont worry about it cause i dont

  • i got a 91 chev and the key is super worn the ignition locks frequently and is now completly stuck in running position. and will NOT come back???

  • hey do you still have that cat

  • my sisters Saturn did the same thing i think its a GM issue get a ford and that will fix your prob

  • Hell, your lucky, my key wont come out, and I cant get it to shut off. the key is stuck, I have been disconnectiong the battery till I can get this fixed. Any advice?

  • @huskerbird1 you might have some luck messing around with the button on your gear shifter, hope this helps

  • my 98 olds bravada does the same thing and i have the same key

  • lol mine does the same thing. it's really not a problem, just make sure the ignition is locked before you park the truck anywhere

  • kitty lol

  • Stop hanging 10lbs off the damn keychain and maybe you wont have a problem with wearing shit out! Plus I am sure that key has been worn to hell and can just slip out.

  • Ignition Lock (Cylinder & Keys), Ignition Switch

  • Ignition Lock (Cylinder & Keys)

  • Truck at work was doing the same thing 1996 chevy cheyenne, we were on the job one day and couldn't get it to start the ignition was locked, after playing heck we got it to start, and found out the key was worn down, spare key worked no problem.

  • i would consider that a good thing

  • Comment removed

  • Thats normal... Its something Chevrolet started in the 80's because you can take the key out while its running to!

  • meow

  • ha ha i got a friend that can start his car with his house lock key

  • @JDTVEXTREMEVIDEOS AWSEMOE!!!!!!

  • It's common on GM and Saturn vehicles built after 1996. The wafers insite the lock move into the notches on the key and prevent it from being removed. As the key wears, the notches get rounded off. Having a key copied at a hardware store only produces a duplicate of the worn key. The solution is have a key cut from the original lock code, either by a locksmith or dealer. Then clean the lock with CRC electric parts cleaner, because all the metal missing from the worn key is inside the lock.

  • The tumblers inside the ignition are very worn. When you have trouble turning the ignition, jiggle the key up and down a but as you turn it and it should turn. And I think its a combination of a worn key and tumblers and its not gripping it and just letting it slip out

  • some fords do that

  • The gm ignition has a side bar. This is what is preventing the lock to turn without a key in it . Once the cylinder is turned with the proper key the side bar goes into the cyl plug and allows the plug to be turned. Your original keys peaks are worn down enough to allow for the key to not be locked in by the wafers. Thus being able to be pulled out of the lock. Your ignition is fine. your key is just worn down.

  • oh yes listen to retard down below go get a ford exploder

  • the key is fine when your other key was made it was a little diffrent even if just a little so it still went in and turned but it messed up the ignition so every time you put it in it would wear it out so now its in the shape of the other key

  • Hmmmm..... Ford has never had this issue....therefor, Gm sucks

  • @2004SiennaAWD

    ummmmm you suck my friend

  • @johnprice1000 I own an 07 tahoe and hate it.... I know what im talking about

  • @2004SiennaAWD Hmmmmm, every auto make does that at some point. its called a worn key. or ignition switch. My 4runner does that, I can start it with a srewdriver. Ive seen plenty of Fords, Chryslers, Toyotas, Hondas, GMs, ect do that. Its not brand bash time.

  • @Motorfordtoyota i dont know man. i had a 97 nissan hardbody and at 210,000 miles it never had key ignition issues.

  • theres nothing wrong just some of the gm keys r like that my car does that to me they say its fine as long as i turn it back far enough where u cant turn it and lock it

  • its a typical worn out gm key i have owned many gms with the original that do that

  • that weard my dads 93 f150 does some thing similar to that it starts normal and every thing but when you turn it back to off it can stay just a bit forward so that nothing is on like the dash or radio but you can take the key out and still start it

  • its your key if you keep pulling the key in and out then it will turn

  • wiggle the key

  • it's like my friend tylers ford ranger cause you can do the exact same thing for his ignition colomn

  • your mom's key is original dats normal

but your dad's key is not original

    bycouse i have a wrangler and i have 3 key 1 original 2 not

whit the original it paps out

    thats the problem

  • to many kyes hanging on the ignition can and will ware out the tumblers replace the ignition and dont hang 1 lb of keys from it

  • get a new switch

  • ya mines the exact same way, i've got a 98 silverado except wit a v6 and for mine you have to jiggle the key in random ways before it will turn, but apparently its common for theose years and type of trucks, also the fuel gauge goes on them so i'd watch out for that to

  • @irssssss except my key doesnt pop out.

  • my 2001 chevy malibu does the same thing i kinda like it

  • my 2000 chevy impala does the same thing it locks when i turn it all the way back i literally have to play with ignition switch.

  • My 1994 ford ranger truck can start without a key

  • so what, myy 88 4runner does that, the switch is worn out, all ignition switches do that at some point.

  • Cool custom feature, lol!

  • realy not a big deal not gunna kill you or anything like that.

  • ya- it's worn out ...keep yanking on it and wear out the lock too

  • wow, thats terrible u should probably just buy a new truck, its totally fucked and is gona blow up, pfff waste of time does it really matter that ur key comes out a little dumbass,

  • tell your workers to respect tho chevy!!!!!LOL

  • Yes, its the key. No harm to the vehicle. As the key gets old, it does not get gripped by the lock. I enjoyed when my truck did this, because i could leave it running when it was extreamly cold, and could lock it without a key inside. Thanks....

  • all chevy trucks get that way my 89 did it at 200000 miles and my 96 did that at around 175,000 i dont even use a key with it anymore

  • Take the all the keys you have for your truck to a locksmith and ask if they can decode it and cut a new key by code. A lot of times this will solve the problem cos your ignition has all the tumblers on one side and this can cause great wear & tear on the key.

But it could also be the ignition lock or sometimes both. Worst case scenario you'll need a new ignition lock but try the key thing first.

  • Your key is warned out and your ignition switch is getting damaged because you set of keys on your key chain are too many. This will damage your ignitions. GM cars will have this problem. Use the back up and get a copy. Also try putting WD-40 in your ignition.

  • ignition cylinder issue dude....install a new one!

  • video's with cats ALWAYS get 5/5 ratings

  • Friend's Blazer had the same issue. The cylinder has an issue with wearing out the key. You need to have the existing key decoded, then remade by code at a locksmith. Have copies made from the code-cut key, then keep the code-cut key for keeping, not daily use.

  • I hav a 1989 chevy c/k 1500 4x4 and that happened to me 2 it can turn on with the key and to lock it i hav to hit the ignition switch if not it would just turn on n off like nothing but that's y i bought car alarm

  • i think its the tread on the key

  • Check the key grooves they may be worn down and that's why the ignition clamp won't grip the key you may have to get a a new key made

  • chylerser had that feture

  • strange, why doesn't Passlock disable the engine/injectors/...?

  • are you trying to copy daves farm or is he copying you? who started saying "cool" first?

  • @jcobaltss2005 he did it with the cat too.

  • i had a 01 tahoe it would do the same thing just need a new Ignition cylinder and a key

  • I know the problem, to many keys.... that will wear out the ign tumber/lock

  • Once a vehicle gets high miles that is not uncommon. My mom's Chrysler Sebring did the same thing. We found out when she took a left hand turn too hard and the keys flew out of the ignition and landed in my lap.

  • You have a worn Ignition lock cylinder AND key. Replace them both!

  • same thing was happening with my dads 1995 Grand Am GT. You would turn the key very slowly back after being on and pop out comes the key but you could still turn it on!

  • My 73 Chevy will start shut of do everything all with out the key.

  • my '96 s-10 did it for 2 weeks then i got pissed and broke the tilt steering then i didnt need the key any more lol but then i soon learned that if i replaced the key it would have worked fine

  • its just a common problem with the 90's models chevys the keys seem to where out ive has five of those truck and all but one were like that but if you continue to use the worn key dont just try to force the ignition on jigle it a bit while litly turn on works much easier if you know what im talking about but i see the video was posted april ninth so im figuring you have probobly already fixed it or figured it out

  • My dad's 1995 Chevy Silverado does the same thing, it was the key.

  • the early 90's model f-150 had the same problem but they had a recall on thiers

  • you could switch drivers, just from the worn out key to the good one. the new driver can't put the key in until it's turned off, sans key.

My blazer's keys are worn out and I am swamping the ignition today

  • my dad's truck did the same thing. it was a pain in the ass. it turned out to be the key worn out at the tip. he had to get 3 of them custom made.

  • that door dinger is really annoying

  • I think its a combination of both key and ignition

  • thats pretty different, my cousin has a 93 f150 and if you grab the grip where the key goes and turn completely 180 degrees, the engine starts without any key :0

  • That is odd, but I'd agree with the comments about the key being dull.

  • mine does the same thing lol

  • Thats a GM Comonent for ya, it'll always work even if it doesn't work correctly! Service Engine light wouldn't come on with a truck that old, Its all emissions crap, nothing important except a few misfire codes comes from that. I'd have to say have a new key cut from what I see. At first I was going to say it looks as though the steering wheel lock was acting up and to move the wheel back and forth to get the key to turn but you seemed fine with everything but that one specific key...

  • its warn down to much

  • get a new key cut by the vin number at a

chevy dealer and compare the cut of the

new key verses the old you will be

    looking at the problem.

The old key is worn out.

  • i had a truck that did that, i just left it alone

  • the key gets dull over time my dad,s gmc safari does that and so does my mom,s chevy corsica

  • Dunno, I got a little issue with my Ford truck ignition, response vid most likely soon.

  • I've got a Chevrolet Silverado 1993 with housing thingy, never had that problem before... weird....

  • i would get a new key cut (use yours), and try that, if no luck, get a new ignition cylender

  • Thanks for posting up this issue.

  • Another guy on youtube F250's does it, maybe mine will do it some day, will make warming it up in a public place easy, start it, take the key out, lock the doors, come back in 5 minutes.

  • ahhh of course, GM quality.

  • that's normal for GM locks. the key is a bit worn. all the old GMH cars do it hear (1960-1985)

  • You need nothing other than a new key. My dads truck was like this. no need to replace the lock cylinder

  • need a new lock clynder and key

  • the key gets worn enough that the tumblers in the lock no longer hold it in. If you get a key punched at an actual locksmith and not a place like a hardware store, the teeth will be sharp and won't have a problem.

  • ignition cylinder and the key are worn out.. if the key doesn't have a chip in it there's no way the truck knows there is no key. Like I said before, when the keys get worn and the ignition too, a couple Fords around here do it too. Your key looks very worn out.

  • ignition lock cylinder needs replacing, not hard to do but make sure you go to a locksmith or you will have a key for the doors and another key for the ignition

  • Is the key that does it the original?

  • yes, that's why I think the problem is with the key.

  • I was gonna say, if it is the original key, that might be the problem.

  • @DanielJaegerFilms its a worn out key it happens,, u can still use the original key u can jiggle up and down and make it work,,,look at the copy and ur original keyy and look how much they are shaved down

  • weird, mine has never done that, not even the suburban

  • my parents 1990 ford taurus had a worn out ignition lock. you could pull the key out like that!

  • I had an 87 taurus that did the same thing it got so bad that sometimes I didn't need a key to start it just turn the lock with your hand and it would fire right up lol.

  • lol my dads gmc yukon is the same its just from wear in the lock thing inside

  • thats odd.

it has a ghost key lol

  • wow that is odd hmm nice truck tho thats for sure

  • wow i have never seen anything like that
