  • Thanks!

  • that song in the background is...??

    great shimmies..:)

  • @pufnicabre the title page :) from BDSS

  • This is a very good way to break it down!!! x

  • i only can do the walking shimmies.. but not the standing one .... it doesnt last

  • @TheRoyalMakeUp glad you are practicing. keep it up and your shimmies will go on forever.

  • @kimbrgsm1 actually i can do the snake move with my chest since i was 6 and i watched a yogi do that :) and ive always been flexible and loved the belly dancing.... I just would like to learn a coregraphy... :)

  • Thank you soooo much! You are magical and a wonderful teacher? So... If i bellydance, will my abs tighten like yours (noticed bikini bod. I want One!)

  • i cant walk and shimmy at the same time , i somehow stop shimming automatically even i try to walk:( cry cry sob sob

  • @fountainofparadise try shimming on one foot, then switch to the other foot. it takes practice.

  • @fountainofparadise then try just shifting your weight slowly... right foot 4 cts left foot 4 cts. - after you feel comfortable with that, try putting one foot in demi point (only the ball of your foot on the floor). then advance to standing on one foot, everything is done very slowly, trust me. build good skills now and the fast shimmies will be easier to achieve.

  • thank you so much you are asweome!

  • My dance teacher was very against knee shimmies & considered them a modren way of doing them. She danced with Mona Said back in the day. She taught us to use our thighs and glutes to shimmy. And the most important thing is to have a lengthen back.

The goal is to get the flesh to giggle.

I have tried to do the kness shimmys, but I have bad knees and even if I don't lock them up they will hurt the next day.

    Greetings from Delaware

  • @finsterthecat both shimmies are considered "old school" - i just depends on which school you went to. Suhaila encourages shimmies from the gluts. i practice both - so that i can pull either one out when the mood strikes.

i like the quote "the goal is to get the fesh to giggle". thank you for sharing.

  • @finsterthecat

i don't have much flesh to jiggle... and this hurts my back and thigh... : (

  • Omg, finally I understood the secret of the shimmies...I did belly dance for one month and our teacher never told us exactly how to do the shimmies, she just said to imitate her moves and I simply couldn't do it. I thought it was smth related to the hips, not the knees. I'm happy I finally know! Thank you!

  • hi yeah im not getting this i cant do the shimmy when i go to my left leg it doesn't work can u help me kimbrgsm1

  • @ashleys411101 it takes practice. try it with out any music and very slowly. eventually you will become more comfortable with it and will pick up speed naturally. we all have a side that requires a little more attention (usually your non-dominant side) but you can train your body - which is what it is all about. hope this helps.

  • Hi! I want to learn bellydancing myself, and I can do the shimmy VERY slowly, but how long do you have to train until you can do it really fast?

    Thirza, 15 yrs.

  • @june9girl there is no set time, practice at different speeds. make sure you are doing the move properly. before you know it, it will happen.

  • thanks a lot for drill shimmy...:)

  • Hello there

We live in New Zeland and are a belly dancing troupe in a small town of 12,000. We love your videos..thank you

  • i never even learned the slow shimmy i had to teach it to myself ! XD my teacher went STRAIGHT into fast shimmies !

  • This move has been hard for me. This is the best way I have seen it explained! Also, I like your enthusiasm! Thanks so much!

  • pants

  • not to barge in but my take on shimmies are there are many ways to achieve many different shimmy effects, the point is to shimmy. ;D

if you can drive your shimmies with your hips you are Tal-en-ted. haha

  • @frickinbword i agree there are many many different types of shimmies. when you say hips do you mean Gluts (buttocks?) if so, those take practice just like any other shimmy.

  • I don't really know how to not lock my knees. Like it's a natural movement for my body to lock my knees...

  • @Darknessisme please slow down and learn to do them with OUT locking your knees. not only can you damage your knees, but your low and mid back as well. remember you are the master, you are training your body. take the time and train it properly to dance safely, so that you may enjoy this beautiful art form for many years.

  • Very good! My teacher didn't go over this so well, so this definitely helped! And yes, I will practice in the shower. :D

  • Thank you so much for explaining this! You explain things so well! I have yet to see a belly dance beginners video tell and show how to do this slowly and detailed!

  • u suck bitch

  • Disgusting.

  • @flunkycarter excuse me?

  • i agree

  • @flunkycarter why is this disgusting???

  • i think i should learn to shimmy for about an hour without prob be4 i should think about combine it with the walk.

  • good works! it looks not difficult, but when i try to move the waist to right or left, i can not control to shimmy meantime.

  • I shimmy just by shaking my hips side to side super fast. I actually can't shimmy right when I use my knees.... I have a lot of hip control.

  • Me too! But that's the beauty of belly dance! You practise hard and you master it. You're gonna love it!

  • not bad actually. But she uses her legs too much

  • Thanks:)

  • I taught myself how to do a shimmi...it's awsome! The hard parts in belly dancing is learning to control muscle movement. For me it was harder to master because i dance in a more hip hop style where u like to shake it lol!

  • Question, when you do this shimmy, are you using your obliques a little, or is it pure legs?

  • Great explanation! Very helpful!

  • Wow, this helped! :D

  • thanks! :D

  • you relle helped i never understood how they were doing it thankyou so much

  • at last!! i got it rite...!!

  • Im fat =o

    T.T

how do you move your tummy without any back movement?

    Mine curves when I try...

    pm meh how?

  • WOW! Thank you! I've been wondering about that step for AGES! Embarrassingly enough, my 10 year old sis could do it just like that... without a teacher's help! :P Now I'll show her, lol!

  • great teacher you helped alot. mines lookes kinda funny though i think

  • ya, i never know witch shimmy to do so mine look dumb.

  • Great teacher! You explain it very well.

  • .. now... is this video recersed or is she sonfusing the left from the right?

  • I think she is an awesome teacher, I have been doing belly dancing for 3years and she is teaching the shimmy the way I was taught!...:)

  • awful teachr

  • and you think you are a better one?

  • localoye8, I'd like to see you do better.

  • What a great teacher you are!!!

    I finally learn it!

    Thank you!

  • thanks great video with loads of useful tips

    will start practising today!

  • hi ,can you tell me from wher larn to dance bally dance

  • i think mine looks odd

  • Oooh, that's how you do the figure 8 shimmies! Thanks for showing that. I was having a hard time getting it.

  • I love learning from your videos, your teaching and tecnique is perfect, I would love it if you can post more of you belly dance instructional as well as performance videos.

  • your videos are really good, your so possitive, adds more energy to the video

  • your videos are really good, your so possitive, adds more energy to the video

  • This video won't load for me. :( All the others are.

  • awesome video=D

  • you're awesome,KIMBGRSM~ ^_^

  • I've never belly danced before, but from watching these videos I've learned so much. I sweat a whole lot more dancing this way that I thought I would...it's deceiving how difficult it can be, but the videos are clear and helpful!

  • Aadvice~the arm drapes block the side view, as they are too long.

  • lol - i am always working on perfecting, I am my worst critic when i watch videos of my performance i have a hard time finding anything that i think "wow that move turned out nice". it is good for beginners to know that dancing is a lifelong learning exp. keep practicing every one!!!

  • hi great vid i do have a question though i have been told that doing shimmies from the knees are bad from them and shimmies should be done from the hips is this true? im confused!

  • i guess that would depend on the knees. one should never 'lock' the knee when doing shimmies .I have always been taught that hip shimmies are driven from the knees/thighs.

  • Thanks for the advice :-)

  • Actually, they can stregnthen the knees, I do use knee pads for support, I find my knees are better

  • hi!!!

like your video! but to be honest, i think you are not done with perfecting, either, no? ideally, the figure 8 should be shimmied all through.. my teacher can do that as if it were not a deal ata ll, also the one legged shimmy.. with me, it looks a bit like yours, actually a lot less skilled than yours. :) so this is really just meant as encouragement to you, it s incredibly hard. i was told one day, after years, suddenly one is perfect.

  • Yeah, I've heard that too, that you keep doing it and doing it and you don't get it, then one day, you wake up and you've just magically gotten it. It's like teaching an infant how to talk. You have to keep doing it and doing it till your body just gets it.

  • this encourages me - i ve totally given up on tryin at home. i can do it at festivities, but i m SOO bad in class and even worse when tryin at home. i outright skip the home training. have done it twice or so :) lazy me!!

you encourage me to try a few minutes every day, in the hope that maybe i ll wake up in a year or so and can shimmy really beautfiully :))

  • I'm glad. Keep at it, if you love it.

  • I practice everyday and starting to be good... but I pratice at home without a teacher. I know I need a teacher

  • how long did it take to learn bellydancing?

  • Hi, for me it took almost a year to learn and improve the basics. This dance has too much to offer. There are lots of things to learn. For example the zills.

  • I was trying to do the shimmies when my 2 anf a half year old nephew starts watching me and tries to do it.lmao, he was so adorable. He already tries to work out with me, such a ham.

  • I love it!!

  • It's hard to do shimmies and walk.. or do other stuff while doing the shimmies..

  • everything that is wonderful takes practice

  • nice, great body, beautiful!

  • I cant wait for my concert in November! Its so exciting! My first concert, and I've only been doing bellydancing for the past 6 months... eek!

  • I take belly dancing classes and this really helped to simplify the shimmy for me, I can go for a while and relativly fast but if I concentrate on it too much then I loose it! Its very frustrating!

But thanks for the great video!

The first song in this particular video is the song Im going to be doing my belly dance to at my concert in November! YAY!

  • how exciting, if you tape it i would like to see it!!!

  • ??? i tryed its hard lol

  • if it was easy - every one would do it - keep practicing!!

  • Oh you are just fab! And cheerful! If I had had a teacher like you I probablely would have stayed in belly danceing. I'm thinking about getting back into it. My teacher said I had a natural nack for it. I quit because I was too self-concious of my body. :(

  • oh that is too bad - you should just dance for yourself. it will make you feel wonderful

  • dont let that pull you down your supost to be big to bellydance the skiny girls dont realy have the right body for it the big girls do.

  • Should create a new Post: Danza Arabe- basics. if you add a crawler or title with your webaddress; to direct new dancers to your school would be great.

  • i will look into it

  • I love your videos!:D

I have almost seen them all! I really want to learn belly dancing.. And with your help i hope i can do it better in a while! I have some problems with my hips!:P

  • hi, i love your videos, but i was just wondering...

do we have to be flexible to do belly dancing?

i cant touch my toes and it's a pain for me to do other dances...but i'd like to give a try for this dance.

  • wow im really enjoying your tuition im a first time dancer and this is great !!!

  • I have trouble going faster but I think with pratice it might help!! Thankx so much for the video

  • i have a problem, i cant seem to get my knees an hips to move at the same time lol. I can do it perfectly when i do it slow but when i try faster they disconnect :(

  • it will just take some time - take it slow and build your muscle memory, it will happen.

  • First of all: you are amazing! I have a question though. Do you have to be born with the gift of bellydancing? I mean, can everybody bellydance if you just practice enough?

  • I believe that if a soul desires something enough, they can do anything with instruction and practice.

  • you are so amazing

  • ---YES!! the knees r the key!!! yor a genius!!

  • I love your personality. You are so nice I love to bellydance as well. If you'd like you could check my videos out. You're very good at your shimmies!

  • the first basic shimmy is one i use in hula.

  • You are great! U teach with patience :) Thank you very much :P

  • hi, first of all many thanks for your great instructional videos, they give a lot of details. I am a bit confused about this shimmy. Is it the same as the freeze shimmy? (The only one I know) or I didn't get it right? When trying out this shimmy only my lower part shimied, not my upper body. Is that ok?

    Thanks

  • there are many names for shimmies, I dont know if my idea of freeze shimmy is the same as yours.when you practice the hip shimmy, allow your body to relax, as your knees move faster - the rest of your body should shimmy also.

  • looks so easy but i cant simply do it...:-) thanks for the tutor

  • you make it look sooo easy....... it so awesome...

  • I love the way this lady teaches! My belly dance instructor is a great belly dancer, but not a very good teacher! Thanks for posting this video : )

  • I LOVE this. Thanks.

  • Shimmying so far has been the hardest move to learn for me. I can start out slow but I can't even get it moderately fast without accidently shaking my entire body. Are there any tricks that would help me to avoid that?

  • my whole body shakes when i shimmy, it is not alot, like when i do the earthquake shimmy, but it does shake.

  • I cant shimmy for long if i shimmy fast u know how i can fix that?

  • practice to build endurance.

  • can't wait till I learn that! thank you for sharing!!

  • Thanx 4 thw video.. i started takin classes for belly dancing few days ago lol hope i will be a performer one day:)

  • i dont have enough words to thank you!!! well thank you hehe i dont really have a lot of time to learn in a class plus where i live i dont think there's a belly dance instructor so thank you for sharing your wisdom with the rest of us hehe ^^

  • These are awesome! Tons better than most of the videos I have seen, where they only have a couple moves and barely even break them down for you and have to rewind 10 times before you get it down!

  • someone once told me to shake your ass really fast like a go-go dancer...that the secret was in the knees...not the hips. her shimmy demo illustrates this. i like how she compairs it to marching in place...as that simplifies it in a nutshell.

  • i had never heard the "shake your ass' one. but both visuals work for me, as long as i keep my knees bent. thanks

  • regarding the "shake your ass"... i was watching a video with Prince and he did this really fast ass-shake and we were all trying to do it and hardly any of us could pull it off until someone said, "the trick isn't in the butt...it's in the KNEES". like your shimmy. your rates should all be 5 star, you are clear, simplify the moves and do this in a very short time frame.

  • THNX THNX THNX THNX TH X

  • what about hip shimmies that use only the glutes and not the legs? are those a different kind? what are they called?

  • those are different. and for the advance, unless of course you are "in touch" with your gluts. that type of shimmy would involve only shimming R glut, then L glut. you see it mostly in male belly dancer because they get to wear the tight pants, little if no belt, so the audience is able to actually see the shimmy.

I think that is what you are talking about

  • doh! these are "hip shimmies" Like i said there are many types of shimmies. these take lots of practice to get it.
