carp fishing in the US is unpopular which gives anglers in the states a better chance of catching a nice carp. carp in the rivers like slow, fairly deep holes with logs,snags, of rocks to use for cover. carp are very wary fish but with the right bait they are very catchable. the best bait i have found is sweet corn with sugar or vanilla extract added, if you catch a carp i encourage you to release it back to where you caught it and help preserve this great species

@fishingben1 frank warrick yes, but danny fairbrass well i wouldn't describe him as an all time great. no way does he deserve to be named along rob maylin, dick walker, terry hearn, Kevin nash. He is a quality carp angler don't get me wrong and good buisness man (maybe too good) but not an all-time great. not for me anyway sorry.

Instead of casting to the opposite bank, why not just fish the bank you are on?

@djeffes because there's less likely to be carp on the bank you are fishing from due to the noises and everything the angler makes. resulting in the carp moving away to quieter areas. i.e the far bank.

To much technical advice. what ever happened to surface fishing, it's more thrilling. One last thing, why cast over to the otherside of the bank?? You could have just gone over to the otherside and lowered your bait in.
