When I saw you had this song uploaded I got so excited. I started messing around with it last night, yet another fun fun song. And you are so talented, I hope you upload more stuff soon.
I love this version because of the section at the end, it really grooves.
Just curious, I also love the studio version on the R30 dvd. Do you prefer one over the other?
@vtx1300dave Thanks Dave. Yea...allot of my vids are getting quite old eh? I definitely need to post more. It's not like I haven't been playing....I play an hour+ most days. I just need to break down and start the camera rolling.
As for the R30 studio version, Is that the one where they are playing with the Bare Naked Ladies dude and Bubbles? If so, I like that one too but I'm partial to this one here.
@wnils Pardon my ignorance, there are 2 guest appearances in the studio, I don't know who they are, but fortunately they didn't get in the way.
It's in the R30 2nd dvd. Really cool, I wish I could see more live studio stuff like that.
As long as we're on the subject, this is an awesome series, although not complete due to copyright. I wish I knew where it came from, I'd like to buy it.
Title: Rush - Part 1-5 - The Making of Snakes And Arrows
this makes me want to try playing base. I've been playing guitar and piano for an odd 7 of my 13 years alive, and the guy at the music store says i have a "real talent and sound". I also play all by ear.
Evolved over 25 years of being a Rush fan. I've been playing from the beginning. I'm quite sure I drove my folks nuts with the noise through the eighties...... :)
Seriously, I'm a long way off from putting myself out there with YYZ. I know my (current) limits, and I can play alot of it, but there are so many others out there that have it WAY better:
watch?v=iHPhyRyGAfc (entheogenesis)
watch?v=mBbtzl9i9EI (Alvabass)
watch?v=gFFQwYMZ40U (jetboy66)
I am always working on improving, but it's just not ready for prime time yet. :)
With these skillz, looks like it wont take u that long to master yyz, great playin man, im tryin to learn this song, but since i cant read music....its takin forever, if u have the time, wuld u post a video of u showing how to play Closer To The Heart? Cause it looks like alot of people would learn really fast since ur like a pro. But nyway, great playin man, RUSH is a great band, and ur a great player.
wnils, how do you like the Geddy Lee Jazz Bass? I play an Ibanez SR400 right now, and it's a sweet bass, but I played a Geddy Lee a couple of weeks ago, and fell in love with it.
I'm thinking about making the investment.
Again, damned good job on Closer to the Heart and Far Cry. I'd like to see you take a shot at YYZ, I'm working on it and it's tough, but you seem to have a good touch, go for it, I'm anxious to see your take on it.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Kim. As for the Fender, I love it. I have a Rick 4001 that I played for 22 years. Love then both, but the fender is more fun to play.......fast neck. I do love that old Rick sound though......very unique.
Actually, I have an Alvarez RB30C acoustic electric bass that I play the most. It has the best neck of any bass I've ever played, and I am on that most of the time. I played a Rickenbacher Chris Squire once, and it was incredible. Good tone, fast neck, nice all around bass.
I may just pick up the Geddy Lee, though, very comfortable bass to play, nice and light, and I love the neck. I got to play it through an Ampeg, which was pretty freaking nice!!
amazing man ur awesome! i have to learn this song by next week to play live somewhere and it looks tricky :p i hope i can play as good as u
keep up the good work bro

wnils 2 years ago
Hey. Your tempo and rhythm is dead on (unlike most rush covers). Excellent!

rush4ever1 2 years ago
Thanks for the nice comment rush4ever1.
I have no illusions of my bass playing being even close to that of Geddy. I do have loads of fun trying though........ :)
wnils 2 years ago

VERY nice job, guy!!! Geddy's my favorite bass player, and you've really captured him. You're videos are helping me a lot to learn how to play Rush.
