I always enjoy seeing and hearing these little dudes. Their colouring reminds me of the banana and caramel sweets I used to eat as a kid. Sad to see they have RSPB Red status, though luckily, they are numerous where I live in West Lancashire.
Beethoven is said to have conceived his 5th Symphony from the last four notes of this call. He apparently use to hear them in the parks around Vienna. See A.W. Thayer's biography of Beethoven.
We hear these chaps all the time - it took me ages to get this vid - but I'm still trying to get one a bit closer - to improve the visual quality a bit!
I really love these. I have some to post, too, but have to make room on my hard drive for more videos first. We recently had the "Great Backyard Bird Count" and I wanted to document all the birds I saw on video, but couldn't get them all. I do have most, though. Check out the Cornell Lab of Ornithology for some interesting projects and info. They conduct the GBBC each year in partnership with the Audubon Society.

It's not showing my comment yet, but this is part 2.
This year's four day count (US and Canada) netted:
Total Checklists Submitted: 85,725
Total Species Observed: 635
Total Individual Birds Counted: 9,805,216
Cool, eh?

Yeah that's great. We have the Big Garden birdwatch - but I dont have any figures to hand on that at the mo!! It sounds a similar thing.
